Capture dreamy images with the Neewer Black Diffusion Filter 62mm Grade 1/2 Cinematic Effectfrom Neewer, compatible with lenses with 62mm filter threads. This 1/2 density filter softens hard edges and provides a smoothing effect by reducing contrast and the overall value of highlights. Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What material is the metal?

A: They are made of aluminum.

Q: 2. Can this be used with a Canon Powershot SX420 is ?

A: No, this filter is not compatible with the SX420.

Q: 3. Is this the same filter as the Hoya NXT Circular Polarizer filter, just updated?

A: According to Hoya, the NXTPlus filters are improved over the NXT-series because they "use better glass, an improved multi-coating process, more multi-coated layers for better light transmission, AND add a new 'Waterproof' Top-coat to repel water quickly away from the surface which makes it easier to clean and more fun to use." For more info, please see Hoya's site here: https://bit.ly/3mo88dO

Q: 4. What is the proper technique for attaching the filter to the filter threads on the front of the lens? The filter is very thin, with very little to grip, but is further rendered difficult to screw on by the presence of the rotating section of the filter. Basically you can only hold the rotating part so it is tough to get the threaded portion to turn and screw into the threads on the lens. The rotating part just rotates so you can barely get any torque on the threaded portion. I finally got mine to screw in by pushing firmly toward the lens as I turned the filter. I don't want to damage anything. When using this technique the threaded portion turns slowly because it drags more on the lens threads.

A: Since submitting this question, I had a chance to look closely at the filter with my OptiVisor. It seems there is a very thin knurled ring on the threaded part of the filter just below the rotating part. I will have to practice and see if I can master threading it to the lens without cross threading or otherwise damaging anything. I do have a filter wrench, but the threads are so fine and delicate that it is even more difficult to tell if you are crossthreading. That will take some practice, too. The lens filter threads are inside a metal ring of sorts that prevents full sized fingers from being able to grip that knurled surface enough to be able to turn the ring to thread it in.

Q: 5. Can this filter be used with a Canon Powershot SX420 IS ?

A: Unfortunately, the SX420 IS lacks a filter thread, therefore it cannot work with this filter.

Q: 6. What's the difference between Hoya filters and Tiffen filters (the price)?

A: It depends on the particular filter you are looking at. If it is thinner to reduce vingetting with wide angle lenses. If it has any multi coatings to reduce reflections and ghosting. If it has any special coatings such as the nano coatings that beads water and makes it easier to clean.

Q: 7. Hello,I noticed the only difference between this Hoya circular polarizer and last years model is this one is not coated. What is the benefit of a non-coated filter?Sincerely,Daniel

A: The main benefit of a non-coated filter is a lower price point. A multi-coated filter will provide dramatically improved light transmission and resistance to glare. If you have the option to spend more for multi-coating, I would definitely recommend it.

Q: 8. I do NOT want a slim profile filter. I am only interested in a 67mm CP filter. Is this a slim profile filter? thanks

A: The Hoya 67mm NXT Plus Circular Polarizer Filter is not a wide filter. It is a thin frame filter. This one is considered more of a standard frame, BH #BWCPB67 (https://bhpho.to/3WTjKsY).

Q: 9. how many f stops of light transmission are reduced?

A: It has a filter factor of 2 to 4 (1 stop minimum, 2 stop maximum).

Q: 10. Is this a thin filter? What is the thickness of it?

A: Although Hoya does not publish the thickness of the NXT Plus Circular Polarizer, it would not be the thinnest option from Hoya. You may want to look to the Hoya 72mm HD3 Circular Polarizer Filter, BH # HOCPHD372 which is less likely to cause vignetting on wide-angle lenses. https://bhpho.to/3LXhNmp

[Aluminum] I purchased the Tiffen North Star filter to add that extra little pop to my photos. I was worried about it being too much and overpowering the the photo, but it isn't. It's fun when you catch that little star off of a diamond or gold jewelry or even an eye. The photo shop stars are just that, add ons and are easily picked out. B & H had a far price price and quick delivery!

[Glass] This was the one product that was not already in stock in the BH shop, but I was willing to take the chance and order it anyway-the product arrived about a week after the rest of my other items came. Looking through the lens with my naked eye onto direct light- I can see immediately the 4 point star effect! Can't wait to use this in my future photo shoots and cinematography projects.

[Aluminum] Most photographers use at least one diffusion filter for portraits, whether a professional whose clients need to look great, or the rest of us who want to flatter Granny at her 90th birthday celebration party. I have kids with iffy complexions in their adolescence and didn’t want to rely too heavily on Photoshop for the fix.

For use on my Quattro DP2, this filter does a fine job of holding small details like eyelashes, yet blends blemishes well. (One caveat: a large blackhead or dark pimple may be accentuated, depending on circumstances, so a white diffusion filter or dab of concealer could be needed.) Since the eyes and lashes/eyebrows hold their detail portraits can be very flattering with this Tiffen product.

It looks odd by itself as it appears to be glass with a pattern of little black marks all over it, where I more or less expected some type of black screen or grid. Not being an optical engineer and as well as the filter works, I chalk it up to FM.

Also, I prefer to use Tiffen products in general as they have always be good quality, competitively priced, and made in the good ol’ U. S. of A.; what’s not to like?

[Glass] Took my photos with my 28-70 to the next level, it now lives on that lens and probably will forever. The 1/4 grade is absolutely perfect for everyday use. Will definitely be looking into different sizes for other lenses.

[Glass] It holds 6-7 cards plus 4-5 notes. Easy to access any card you need while keeping the overall thickness very low. Like the design.

[Glass] I have used other star filters before and was never happy with the results---this north star filter gives a very natural, subtle star effect that looks great.
