Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Are GND filters available?

A: While Canon does offer the Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R with Variable ND Filter BH # CAMAEFRFDIND, there are no graduated ND filters that can be used with either adapter. You could only use those filters in a screw type or with a filter holder in front of the lens.

Q: 2. Will this help dissipate heat for the Canon R5?

A: No.

Q: 3. Wide angle lenses? Does the rear mount of the CPL make any difference with uneven polarization on wide angle lenses. I assume no, but never hurts to ask.

A: The rear-mounted CPL in this adapter does not make any difference with uneven polarization when used with wide angle EF lenses.

Q: 4. Does this speedboost the lens or its a regular adapter?

A: The Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R with Variable ND Filter is not a speed booster adapter.

Q: 5. Anyone noticed any cross polarization (looks like vignetting) with this variable ND?

A: Hi,I just tested this for you. No cross polarization or heavy vignetting across a variety of lenses.

Q: 6. The directions for the adapter say it has to be removed from the camera before I can change lenses. Why? It seems that it would be easier to leave the adapter on the camera and just change the lens attached to the adapter.

A: We recommend always following manufacturer's instructions, even when their reasoning might not be clear.

Q: 7. Can a drop in filter frame (w/o glass) like Kolari Vision B&H#KORDROPEMPT be used in lieu of the clear filter (w/ glass)?

A: The Canon Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R with Circular Polarizer Filter only works with these filters at this time, https://bhpho.to/4ebpvc7 and https://bhpho.to/4dZOr66.

Q: 8. Does this help with lens flare on the Canon TSE 17mm? When I used my 17mm TSE on my 5DMkIII I rarely had lens flare. Now I have REALLY bad flare when using my 17mm TSE with my Vello adaptor on my R6.

A: The polarizing filter is to reduce glare/reflections. And to darken the color blue in things like the sky and water. It will not work to reduce actual lens flair. If the lens works fine on an EF mount camera, it could be that the adapter is causing it with that wide a lens and type of lens. The only other option would be to get the Canon brand adapter and see if that solves it. Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R BH #CAMAEFRF • MFR #2971C002 https://bhpho.to/3t6JznM

Q: 9. Does this adapter have the control ring as in the $199 version?

A: This adapter lacks a control ring.

Q: 10. Does this VND cause the "x"?

A: None that we can see. The ND stopped all the way down looks great with no X over the video.

[Flare] I love the colors; the filter snaps into the Canon adapter and fits snugly. The Vari ND wheel spins somewhat freely, similar to the canon version. I wish it had some more tension on the wheel so it would feel more solid. But in no way effects the performance, it's superior to the canon in my opinion.

[Glass] 4 stop ND but as advertised. Know exactly how many stops used rather than VND with imprecise wheel.

[Dedicated] Picked this up for use on my Canon R5C and I'm very impressed with the overall build quality. This is my first product by Kolari, but they have been on my radar for years with the Infrared conversions and magnetic filters they make. Happy to say this adapter and drop-in filters are very well built. The auto-focus features and communication with lens to camera has so far been perfect with my Sigma EF lenses, so I'm very pleased with that. The filters themselves are super clean and do not appear to have any color shifts or aberrations. And best of all, the control wheel for the VND is actually the right amount of resistance! Doesn't budge if you bump it (like the Canon brand one), but smoothly spins when you need to adjust it. At this price point, I'd recommend this kit over the Canon OEM alternative all day.

[Glass] Works well.
Would be great if there was some other strength (8-stop, 10-stop, 2-stop, etc.)
