Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Why can't you ship the Shure SM7B to Australia?

A: This is a restriction placed on all USA authorized Shure dealers and enforced by SHURE USA.

Q: 2. Will this mic work if plugged into an M BOX mini?

A: Yes with a Cloud lifter recommended

Q: 3. Shure SM7B will work with the Roland R-26 recorder? Shure reports that SM7B requires a minimum of 59 dB gain. Rolnad R-26 in the specification has a -62dBu output level.

A: The DB range looks good on paper but you're going to be maxed out and get a quiet level that will make buying such a nice mic pointless. You'll need a pre-amp like a Cloudlifter or a Triton Audio Fethead in-line preamp (the cheaper option). Do NOT use phantom power on the Shure SM7B unless you want to ruin it. I use my Shure SM7B in my home studio with a DBX 286s preamp/processor. It's about $200 but it makes my audio national broadcast quality.

Q: 4. If I use this mic with the Zoom H5n as a preamp, do I need to buy a cloudlifter?

A: A Cloudlifter would be advised, because the output of the Shure SM7B is notoriously low. The mic pre amp 's on the Zoom H5n do not have enough gain, and you will have to tun up almost to the highest level, which would introduce noise in the signal. The loudlifter will add +25dB of clean gain, and make your recordings sound professional.

Q: 5. Is this good for screams/yelling like heavy metal?

A: Yes, the sensitivity and gain range of the Shure SM7B Vocal Microphone make it a good option for loud vocal signals.

Q: 6. Will this fit into, and be able to be used in conjunction with the Auray ISO-ARMOR-2 (BH# AUISOARMOR2)?

A: No, the diameter of the SM7b is 2.5" and the ISO-AMOR-2 accommodates microphones with a diameter of up to 2.3".

Q: 7. Is there an affordable USB audio interface you'd recommend for using the SM7B to record with a MacBook Pro? Shure recommends at least 60 dB of gain, which means that a lot of USB audio interfaces won't cut it. I'll gladly spring for the mic, but don't want to spend a fortune just to be able to use it.

A: Dont use this mic to record to a computer. Buy a portable Digital Recorder such as the Tascam DR-100MK II and then after recording import the file into your Mac or PC.

Q: 8. Does it come with the connector in box?

A: The SM48-LC includes a stand adapter and carrying/storage bag.

Q: 9. can it be used with a standard 3.5 mic plug, or if it connect to an XLR can it be used with an adapter for input to a Camcorder or DSLR camera?

A: I'm using an XLR to Mini Jack cable (B&H# COCMMXF10), and I can plug it into a DSLR

Q: 10. On-Stage DS7200B Adjustable Height Desktop Mic Stand (Black)

A: The Shure SM58 can be used with the On-Stage DS7200B desktop mic stand.

[Cardioid] I purchased this for my daughter recently to use with an audio interface. The quality of the microphone is on par with the SM58 I am used to, with a great balance in the hand and a nice audio response.

This is a rugged piece of equipment with a great pedigree.

[1.47 lb] This is the perfect mic for the price. Looking for something to do interviews on the fly and didn't need to spend $100 on an SM58. This is the perfect choice since it's still solid a a rock, sounds amazing, and has most of the features of the 58 without the price tag.

[1.47 lb] Bought this mic for denon prime for cause it's a headache to keep reaching over the entire board to turn the mic on and off. Works perfectly. Good sound and heavy duty. Worth the buy.

[Cardioid] I purchased this microphone for rehearsals but might end up using for live shows as well. The quality from this mic is outstanding. I have a wireless sm58 as well, but wanted something that I didn’t mind getting dinged up. If you’re looking for something affordable with quality, then this mic is the one to go for. Although the bigger brother sm58 May have a little edge over the sm48, but not much at all.

[Cardioid] As a creator on a budget, this fits the bill for Shure quality and a great price. Perfect compliment to my other dynamic microphones.
