The Ocean Way Audio HR4 is a single, active two-way reference speaker designed to provide highly accurate monitoring with 100° horizontal dispersion for an ultrawide sweet spot, making it well suited for use in professional recording studios and listening environments for production, mixing, and mastering applications. The HR4 provides precise imaging over a wide 35 Hz to 25 kHz frequency range.

A unique dual/hybrid waveguide system based on the speakers at Ocean Way Recording and engineered using 3D modeling ensures accurate, wide-frequency dispersion over a remarkable 100 x 40° pattern. In the mixing environment, this ensures consistent stereo imaging and accurate tonal qualities and balance throughout the room, not just in the ideal mixing position between two monitors.

A 125W amp powers the 8" geometrically reinforced aluminum cone low-frequency driver. The high frequencies are handled by a 1" silk dome tweeter powered by a second 125W amp. With a 116 dB maximum output level, the HR4 delivers plenty of power for loud mixing sessions. XLR analog and digital inputs are provided and the speaker supports resolutions up to 24-bit / 192 kHz.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does it come with a regular retail box or brown box?

A: This headset would come in its original manufacturers package. If you are asking about shipping we would then place the box into a shipping box and ship i.

Q: 2. If I wanted to point my camera straight up can this head accomplish that? Would I have to turn the camera a quick release plate around backwards?

A: I use a Manfrotto 410 geared head which has the same limited up pointing constraint. I mount my telescope, which obviously needs to point way up, on it. To get around the up pointing constraint I mount the QR plate with the telescope pointing "backwards." When I connect the telescope to the mount I am using the downward pitch as my upward pitch. Since the Benro plates are Arca-Swiss comparable there is no front or back to them. To maintain 3-way operation I would mount the plate in line with the optical axis of the camera and mount the camera to the head with the lens pointing out over the pitch handle. That is going to require reaching around the head to got to that handle which will be a little awkward, but allows control of pitch, yaw, and roll which becomes limited if the camera is mounted "sideways" as suggested by Staff.

Q: 3. Is the QR adjustable fore and aft? Is there a name for this feature?

A: The QR can be adjusted but it does not have a lot of range unfortunately.

Q: 4. Will this head fit the Gitzo Traveler GT1545TUS that I bought from you?

A: Yes. That is correct! You would be able to mount The Gitzo 2-Way Fluid Head, onto The Gitzo GIGT1545T, Traveler Series 1 Carbon Fiber Tripod. You may want to add a leveler in between. See below. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/431861-REG/Acratech_1117_Leveling_Base.html

Q: 5. Does this include eartips, USB-A dongle and the charging case? Seems to have conflicting information here.

A: Those items are listed in the "In the Box" section.

Q: 6. Can I use it like an gimbal head ? Can I lock the horizon and just move up and down with circle move ?

A: It may be the closest head to a gimbal but you will achieve much results with a gimbal head as far as tracking and smoothness of motion.

Q: 7. Does it have friction control?

A: No, but you can slightly tighten the controls to create makeshift friction.

Q: 8. The photos show the case is included but the "In the box" section doesn't. Which is it?

A: The Poly Voyager 5200 UC Bluetooth Headset (B&H # PO7S431AA) does include the case.

Q: 9. Is there away to change the Base Mount thread to 1/4"?

A: Certainly! All you'll need is a 3/8"-16 reducer bushing like this one: https://bhpho.to/2WxKgYY or https://bhpho.to/34upiOY

Q: 10. How can you hook up a pair as a stereo pair? Is this possible to be done wirelessly? Or would you need to incorporate a stereo breakout cable from the source to input into each speaker's aux line in or perhaps another input?

A: To use 2 Samson Expedition Express+ speakers, you would not be able to do that via bluetooth so that would require a wired connection from your source, to accommodate 2 speakers for stereo.

[Single Monitor] Side by side comparison to ADAM speakers revealed these are the best speakers on the market. They have very clear and big bass. And they have very clear mids and highs. If clarity and low end boom and bass clarity is your thing, then these speakers are the best you will find in the music store. They are better than ADAM Audio speakers in a side by side comparison the rep took me thru, it was close with ADAM being second, but after listening to the EVE SC208s, the ADAMS started to sound just a little more muffled than when I first heard them before hearing the EVE SC208s, and EVE SC208 gave off a big clear, defined, tight bass that was better than ADAM's. Surprisingly the budget Mackie MR8 MK3 kinda came in close third place in all the test. Mackie has bass too and pretty clear mids in the MK3 series only, but EVE's are the best of all on the shelf music store monitors. They are the most expensive tho, so you know why, but you get what you pay for. If you want the monitor with the biggest baddest clearest bass and mids and highs that are not fatiguing at long periods of time, then you will have to pay the cost to be the boss with these.

[Horizontal] Great nearfield speakers, and also good utilitarian, for capturing impulse reverbs.

[35 Hz to 25 kHz] I use the ADAM A8X speakers with my Korg Chronos X keyboard and am amazed at its performance so I knew the A7X would be perfect for a center channel speaker in my surround sound system. This is perfect for vocal clarity and I am not disappointed. Yup I give it a full thumbs-up!

[Active 2-Way] I used to install mid to high end home theater and whole house audio in my college days. I've been exposed to good sound, but can't say I'm an expert like someone devoted to that alone. To my ear, these speakers sound great. Depending on the music or whatever, they move serious amounts of air and are totally clear while they do. I have them set to half volume, at the detent and use my new UR44 audio interface for volume control. I can only handle about 3/4 of max volume, but even at that volume they still sound wonderful. These are 150W each, and I've seen speakers that are twice that much power. I assume they're made for bigger spaces and not just a couple of feet from your head because I can't imagine how loud those could get! And I like loud! 150W is enough, to be sure. The footprint was bigger than I expected. I probably should have laid it out ahead of time. My family freaked out a bit in astonishment. I had to clear of my desk and get a little table setup as a return to my left to put books and papers on, as there is now no room for anything else on my desk. Time for a new desk anyway. I have them sitting on the medium sized Auray pads and they're a good fit, I suppose. A little larger in each dimension than necessary. If I can find a bandsaw, I may cut them down a bit. But I think the small ones would have been too small. Anyway, great speakers.

[35 Hz to 25 kHz] I have been producing, mixing, and mastering electronic music for almost 10 years and when I say that these speakers have taken my music to a whole nother level, I mean it. Seriously worth the money.

[35 Hz to 25 kHz] I use these with a Velodyne MiniVee sub. Stereo soundstage is superb and sweet spot is plenty wide and tall. These were an upgrade from a pair of smaller 5.5 monitors. If you can fit these, get them over a smaller speaker. They are not too large for a small studio or home office. Lift them off the work surface with hardwood boxes or stands (I prefer a wood surface with thick foam sticky pads).

[Black] These monitor speakers, although pricy, are very well suited to mixing and editing in protools for a studio either at home or in a formal studio setting. They are transparent with a very flat sound that does not emphasize any particular aspect of the frequency spectrum. Flat sound as used here is a good thing. The bass is surprisingly strong in my editing room which only about 8' x 10'. I did add a subwoofer for frequencies below 50Hz. The highs are exceptionally clear and the midrange very smooth. These speakers are very easy on the ears even after several hours editing. I highly recommend them. I use them mainly to edit recording of live theatrical musical performances.

[116 dB (Peak)] As with all of the speakers in the AX line, the clarity in the midrange and the treble must be heard to be believed. Really amazing bass, too (truth be told, almost too much bass for my small room, but easily corrected with DSP). I listened to their smaller siblings (A5X) in the B&H store and knew I wanted a speaker in the AX line. Great service and support from B&H, as always.
