Add the classic sound of a ribbon microphone to your recording arsenal with the Ocean Way RM1-B. The microphone features an ultrathin ribbon element and powerful neodymium magnet to deliver a high-fidelity sonic signature with extremely low noise. While most ribbon mics are easily damaged by phantom power, the RM1-B is an active mic that actually requires 48V to operate the internal preamp—supplying a robust, low-noise output that requires less gain from your preamp than traditional ribbon models.

The RM1-B microphone was designed, developed, and engineered by pro audio transducer inventor and technologist Cliff Henricksen. The microphone is machined and assembled exclusively in America. The RM1-B was created to improve on some of the well known deficiencies common to large-format ribbon microphones, namely low sensitivity (leading to a noisy processed signal), dull spectral output, and unpleasant p-pop response. As a result, the RM1-B is very simple to use, giving faithful recordings with minimum processing and downstream adjustment.

The RM1-B's diaphragm is made from exquisitely thin aluminum, originally intended for medical research. It vibrates in a very intense magnetic field, creating unusually high output. The diaphragm's output is amplified by a carefully engineered and artistically voiced, ultralow-noise phantom-powered preamplifier. This combination gives the user a true plug-and-play setup that rarely needs equalization, even in complex ensemble mixes. Integration of SuperQuiet technology assures sonic purity, free of unwanted noise.

The RM1-B's aluminum case components are softened and matte-surfaced as part of the manufacturing process and finished with an attractive but unassuming hard-anodize outer coating. The grille / pop filter is stretched, so that it exhibits a graceful geometric form and pleasing color. The cast-iron magnetic circuit components are electroless nickel-plated for lasting beauty.

  • Use for vocals and a wide range of instruments, except for near-field kick drum or bass cabinet pick up as the low-end volume can harm the ribbon element
  • Unique FEA-analyzed design results in a pure-iron physical structure around the ribbon that optimizes magnetics and results in resonance-free acoustical performance
  • Intense magnetic field strength delivers 6 dB more level
  • Ultralow-noise phantom powered 1st stage all discrete preamp with 36 dB output level
  • Output level comparable to the quietest condenser microphones\
  • Figure-8 polar pattern
  • Completely natural, unaffected sound with full 20 Hz to 20 kHz bandwidth in both directions
  • 24" integrated cable with gold-plated Neutrik XLR connector
  • Includes integrated yoke mount and aluminum travel case
  • Handmade in the USA

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is Version 2.0 or 1.0?

A: The Pakt Travel Backpack (Forest, 45L) is version 2.0.

Q: 2. I'd like to use this with my Sony a6300 which has a 3.5 mic input, but no headphone/line out. Will I be able to monitor sound while recording? Also, will I need a line to microphone attenuation cable or does this feature mic out?

A: This audio adapter will allow you to monitor the audio before it goes out to your camera. The output level is set to MIC Level, and a 3.5mm cable is provided to connect to your camera.

Q: 3. Can I record through the stereo channel with a Rode Mini shotgun and use a wireless setup on the L or R channel and still record two separate audio channels?

A: Unfortunately not, only 1 stereo input or 2 mono inputs can be connected at the same time.

Q: 4. Hi - do all 4 audio channels mixdown at once? Or it is limited to using a lesser amount of channels?

A: When all of the mic inputs are utilized, the output would send out a ' single stereo channel of everything you have connected to the inputs.

Q: 5. Can this be used with Nikon Z8 camera?

A: Yes, the Beachtek DXA-MAX 2-Channel Active Audio Adapter for DSLR can be used with any camera that has a 3.5mm microphone input jack.

Q: 6. am I able to use 3 labs with beachtech?

A: You can use up to 2 lavalier mics with the Beachtek DXA-MAX.

Q: 7. How would you gauge & control levels when you attach 1 lav to the stereo jack, 1 XLR to the right, & 1 lav to the mono left?

A: You can only use a maximum of two microphones, one connected to the left channel and the other connected to the right channel, with the Beachtek DXA-MAX 2-Channel Active Audio Adapter for DSLR. However, if you are using the stereo input, we suggest not connecting any other microphones as it would create phase and/or level issues.

Q: 8. When using two audio sources, shotgun and wireless, how is it recorded? Can I select one or the other during Post even if two are captured at the same time during recording?

A: If using two mics and wanting them on separate audio channels for post production, then use the stereo output mode on this to achieve separate channels.

Q: 9. What happens when you attach an XLR on right channel, and either: two mono 3.5 mics on the left & right; or one stereo plug mic?

A: Only one source each should be connected to the Beachtek DXA-MAX's Left and Right inputs. Connecting multiple sources to one channel will cause phase issues and a loss of audio quality.

Q: 10. Can the audio from the XLR mic input be sent to both left & right channels in the camera?

A: When the output switch on the front of the unit is set to "M" for Mono, the XLR input will be sent to both the left and right audio tracks of your camera.

[Phantom Power] I took a chance on this mic as there's not a lot of reviews on it out there. I'm kinda an ART fanboy, so I figured this mic would be alright. It is! I use it for electric and acoustic guitars and find it to be rich and smooth, like a ribbon mic should be! I find it to be low noise and very balanced. With the right placement (not too close) I didn't even need to eq it! Not having to worry about using my cloud lifter is a plus as well, the active circuit works very well at boosting the signal. Also, it comes with a sturdy aluminum case, shock mount, and velvet pouch. One thing - the shock mount is a little not great - the only thing that holds the mic in is a little thumb screw that pushes a piece of felt into the mic body. It does come loose after a couple of hours. Overall, this mic stands it's own again other cheap ribbon mics very well! I have a cascade fathead and an Se X1r, and this one sounds just as good! And is about $70 cheaper! Way to go, ART!

[Mono] These monitor speakers, although pricy, are very well suited to mixing and editing in protools for a studio either at home or in a formal studio setting. They are transparent with a very flat sound that does not emphasize any particular aspect of the frequency spectrum. Flat sound as used here is a good thing. The bass is surprisingly strong in my editing room which only about 8' x 10'. I did add a subwoofer for frequencies below 50Hz. The highs are exceptionally clear and the midrange very smooth. These speakers are very easy on the ears even after several hours editing. I highly recommend them. I use them mainly to edit recording of live theatrical musical performances.

[Figure-8] I have been producing, mixing, and mastering electronic music for almost 10 years and when I say that these speakers have taken my music to a whole nother level, I mean it. Seriously worth the money.

[Figure-8] I was looking for a ribbon mic for years. I have normal mics and many of them. I read the reviews for the top ones by price and then of later years saw the reviews of the Golden Age R1 Active Ribbon.

MK111. The price allowed me space to purchase. This is the cheapest mic I have ever purchased bar the shure SMs. The Golden age ribbon is a killer, well mine is, it is fabulous on Nylon guitar. None of my present mic collection comes close given that I have mics costing up to $3000 nz.
I would like to comment on vocals etc however I have not got around to recording vocals etc yet. I am a muso of 52 years of experience good enough and more for me.

[Figure-8] Totally blown away by this microphone.
Congratulations to the folk who made it and sell it at this price.
I have microphones worth up to about $3500 purchased from hard graft over the years. While I have used this only on Classical guitar so far I can see that this is the only mic I will use as a main mic for my acoustic guitars.

[Figure-8] I own one SC-204 that I use as my keyboard monitor. Two SC-205's and TS-108 sub. I use the 205's and sub to gig small home venues. These speakers are great. Flat sound to me and they work. Great sound for mid to upper-mid priced speakers I would buy again and recommend to all.

[Figure-8] I am a professional opera singer, and I want to capture my bass-baritone voice in a small space without it sounding too crisp and treble heavy. This mic captures my full spectrum with a nice warm natural quality. I'm improving my placement and studio space so I can add reverb to simulate the large halls that are best for operatic voices. The mic is very sensitive and picks up well at 12-18 away without much room noise. It sounds like me when I'm listening. It's connected to a Tascam DR44w recorder with 48v. The build quality is very nice, but I am always gentle with it and mindful of storing it upright because of the fragile ribbon.

[Figure-8] Side by side comparison to ADAM speakers revealed these are the best speakers on the market. They have very clear and big bass. And they have very clear mids and highs. If clarity and low end boom and bass clarity is your thing, then these speakers are the best you will find in the music store. They are better than ADAM Audio speakers in a side by side comparison the rep took me thru, it was close with ADAM being second, but after listening to the EVE SC208s, the ADAMS started to sound just a little more muffled than when I first heard them before hearing the EVE SC208s, and EVE SC208 gave off a big clear, defined, tight bass that was better than ADAM's. Surprisingly the budget Mackie MR8 MK3 kinda came in close third place in all the test. Mackie has bass too and pretty clear mids in the MK3 series only, but EVE's are the best of all on the shelf music store monitors. They are the most expensive tho, so you know why, but you get what you pay for. If you want the monitor with the biggest baddest clearest bass and mids and highs that are not fatiguing at long periods of time, then you will have to pay the cost to be the boss with these.

[Solid-State] AEA is known for great mics and great pre-amps and the TDI is built the same way, high quality, clean and transparent. In the couple of weeks I have had it, it has been used on multiple basses, with passive and active pick-ups as well as acoustics with Piezos. Regardless of input, there was absolutely no distortion and no coloration, the sound of the instruments came through, good or bad, but gave me total control at the console. Excellent for Piezo pick-ups, as the 10MOhm input impedance loads the pick-ups nicely, no harshness or overtones like some DI's. This has quickly replaced my old classic Type 85 and my newer J48 as the go to DI in my kit. I have not been excited about a DI in a while, a lot out there, but the newer ones were all about imparting their color, not the TDI, it is as good as it gets, and looks great too.

[Figure-8] Great nearfield speakers, and also good utilitarian, for capturing impulse reverbs.
