Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. When painted on a clean surface, with sufficient coats for total coverage, does this product result in an 18%, color neutral, grey that could be used in the same way as a regular grey card? I have a reason to create a large (3 foot plus) grey card, and this seems like a possible solution.

A: According to the FAQ page on the GTI website, the closest to 18% grey would be a Munsell N5 color at 19.5% reflectance, whereas this paint is closest to Munsell N8 color at 53% reflectance.

Q: 2. What kind of primer should one use? Would Kilz or Kilz 2 be ok? Does one need 1 or 2 layers of paint?

A: The GTI Standard Gray Neutral N5 Vinyl Latex Paint can be used with standard latex primers.

Q: 3. How long does the paint take to dry?

A: The manufacturer does not specify a drying time. Layer thickness, humidity, and temperature can all affect drying times.

Q: 9. will this fit a sigma 18-35mm T2 lens? This one?https://a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1324192-REG/sigma_210966_18_35mm_t2_cine_zoom.html target= _blank www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1324192-REG/sigma_210966_18_35mm_t2_cine_zoom.html/a

A: It is not deep enough. You need 95mm for the front flange and the inside depth is around 65mm.

Q: 10. Is this paint neutral under UV illumination or other radiation sources as well?

A: UV and IR light energy are not visible light sources and can't be seen by a human observer. I only think that can be seen if if they react with optical brighteners, fluorescent dyes or pigments. There are no optical brighteners in the GTI Neutral Gray so I would say it is neutral under UV energy. GTI Standard Gray Neutral N8 Vinyl Latex Paint will appear neutral gray in color. It is designed for the photo and graphic industry, which typically does not use infrared light or ultraviolet light which is outside of the view-able light spectrum. This paint is ideal for use in color viewing areas which require Munsell N8 or N7 gray surround as specified by ISO 3664:2000. This paint is specially formulated to have a flat spectral response without any color bias. A neutral gray is not simply a black-white mix, but an equal mixture of all the visible spectrum (r-o-y-g-b-i-v) colors. A spectrophotometric measurement of such a gray will show it to contain approximately equal amounts of those spectrum colors.
