Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this scan panoramic photos? Also, can it scan including sprocket holes?

A: Yes, the Plustek 35mm Negative Film Holder for OpticFilm 120, B&H # PLFHOF120135, can scan 35mm panoramic film. The holders are not designed so sprocket holes can be scanned. That area is needed to ensure the film is held flat in the holder.

Q: 2. It seems that all film processors can develop & mount slides with now scratches, but none of them do the same thing with negative. They depend on Digital ICE and over sharpen the pictures. Has anyone taken the Ilford negatives and scanned them? Were they essentially scratch free?

A: Kenneth, I used Illford on only 2 or 3 ocassions. The negatives they have sent back have been free on any kind of scratches.I have never scanned them but usually use a magnifying glass.

Q: 3. Do these mailers have an expiration date? If so where can you see it (I looked in Specs but couldn’t find anything. Hey that

A: There is no expiration date for mailers.

Q: 4. Do they the return the negs cut or can you request them uncut?

A: Ilford does cut the negatives into strips of 4. If you dont want the negatives to be cut, you can request this. You would simply want to write this on the envelope.

Q: 5. How many rolls of film are in a brick of Ilford XP2 Super 400 120B&W? Is there any discount for quantity? Thanks!

A: With this type of film, we purchase it in gross bulk from the manufacturer and sell it per roll. We do not have any brick packs that we sell in this particular instance. Our film is already discounted to the lowest possible price we can offer it to you at regardless of the quantity you purchase.

Q: 6. Is this price just for the scan and the cd? or dose it come with prints of the photos? or is that extra?

A: The Ilford Prepaid 35mm and 120 Film Developing Mailer includes the price of development and small scans of your negatives (the Specifications tab lists the scan sizes as 35 mm: 1024 x 1536 pixels, 4.5 MB; 645: 1024 x 1398 pixels, 4.1 MB; 6 x 6: 1024 x 1024 pixels, 3 MB; 6 x 7: 1024 x 1255 pixels, 3.7 MB). [0.03 lb] I bought this as a gift for an old friend who was gifted his grandfather's Rolleiflex. He said:

I got a neat manila mailer envelope from Ilford. Inside, was my negatives, sleeved and inside a white envelope, a card with small versions of my photos, a card with a half height 4GB USB stick with ILFORD on top, and a card from Brody who inspected my order. I paid extra for scanning at medium size, and the USB stick, They offer scans on a cd but I wanted the stick. All these options were clearly marked on the return envelope. Turnaround was about 10 days.

[0.03 lb] I sent them a roll for the first time and the turnaround was fast, and the CD and negs were well packaged. The quality of the scans was good, I will be buying more mailers from them. I think that they do color film but this is mostly for B&W negative film.

[0.03 lb] I used the ILFORD mailer to send a roll of SPX for processing on 01/16/2022 and received an email, from the lab, that they had my film in their production queue on 01/18/2022. On 01/21/2022 I received another email from the lab advising me that my film was processed and on the way back to me and I received everything 3 days later, on 01/24/2022 so, 8 days from start to finish which I found totally acceptable, as were the processed negatives and a set of 4X6 prints, which I opted for as a contact sheet cost $12 and the set of prints cost $10. The two buck saving was used to purchase a storage box (cost: $2) for the prints and the scan CD (I chose the medium scan, 18-19MB file size, cost: $5). The prints, by the way, included a contact sheet with all 36 frames squeezed down on a 4X6 print, somewhat useful with a 10X loupe or what i use as a substitute, which is a 50MM lens, reversed so that you're looking through the rear of the lens, at whatever is in front of it and this technique turns any 50MM into a 10X loupe. Aside from the price of the mailer, my additional costs were: Prints: $10, medium scan: $5, storage box: $2, and postage: $5. So, $22 over and above the cost of the actual mailer so, along with the film cassette itself, about $1.50 per frame, everything included. Not exactly inexpensive but the silver lining is that I've decided to get back into doing my own processing, scanning and printing, digitally, as I sold my enlarger a couple of decades ago and I have a hankering to try B&W development with a monobath. I'll still shoot slide film, of course, but I've always loved using B&W. Hope this review is useful to you...

[0.03 lb] Although I haven't used the mailer yet, I was very pleased with the many traditional, film processing/printing services offered by the Ilford lab in addition to the processing provided with the mailer.
