The M2 Ultra is built from two M2 Max dies connected through UltraFusion, which is Apple's custom-built packaging technology. UltraFusion uses a silicon interposer that connects the dies with more than 10,000 signals, providing over 2.5 TB/s of low latency interprocessor bandwidth. UltraFusion's architecture enables the M2 Ultra to appear as a single chip to software. This means code doesn't need to be rewritten to utilize the extreme performance of the M2 Ultra.

The 24-Core CPU of the M2 Ultra consists of 16 next-gen performance cores and eight next-gen high-efficiency cores, delivering up to 20% faster performance than its predecessor, the M1 Ultra. Combined with a 60-core GPU and 128GB of unified RAM with 800 GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, this Mac Pro has the performance of not just one, but seven Afterburner cards built-in. It also features the industry-leading media engine, allowing playback of up to 22 streams of 8K ProRes video.

Combine Apple silicon performance with the versatility of PCI expansion. The Mac Pro features six PCIe Gen 4.0 slots, which provide twice the bandwidth for audio and video I/O, networking, and storage cards. There are two double-height PCIe Gen 4.0 x16 slots, two single-height PCIe 4.0 x8 slots, and two double-height PCIe 4.0 x 8 slots. There is also a half-length PCIe 3.0 x4 slot that is occupied by the Apple I/O card.

The Mac Pro offers a wide array of connectivity, starting with eight Thunderbolt 4 ports, which support up to 40 Gb/s data transfer rates and DisplayPort. There are also two HDMI ports that support high-bandwidth 48 Gb/s HDMI, enabling resolutions up to 8K and refresh rates up to 240 Hz. The two USB-A ports can handle legacy USB devices while the 3.5mm audio jack provides headphone support. [128 GB] I got this MacMini M2 Pro (16GB/1TB) to replace a MacMini 2018 (Intel) that was 8GB/256GB. I just could not get the MacMini-2018 to run Sonoma well from an external TB NVMe (for me anyways, but others might have better success). I got the M2 Pro bcs it has the 4x TB ports and also 2x the memory bandwidth and I think, but am not sure, that the internal NVMe bandwidth is 2x also vs the non-Pro MacMini M2. The MM M2 Pro is great and very snappy for me (tho I'm not doing any super-heavy-weight activities, so can't comment in that regard). And B&H is such a great place to order Apple products from (I just got a MacBook Air 2023 also, to replace my MBP-2015, and love it too). Thanks. 5

[1 TB] Extremely fast and efficient. I do a lot of graphics and photography, both video and stills and love the speed of this machine. A little on the costly side, but you get what you pay for and this Mac Pro is worth it. Cost offset by increased speed of production. 5

[87.5 lb] If you need to rip a lot of music for iTunes/Apple Music, you need a local host to store your files, either a PC or Mac. You can't use an iPad or iPhone to do so. I chose the Mac Mini for my wife's music library because it was reasonably priced compared to replacing her comparably configured MacBook Air and she only travels with her iPad. 5

[1280 W with IEC] I had a Mac Mini M1 that worked great for me. After moving to thunderbolt 4 drives, I needed more thunderbolt ports that the M2 Pro offers over the base models. The M2 Pro works great and fills my needs. Highly recommend. 5
