Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can you remove the 60mm Half Ball and use this as a Flat Base?

A: No

Q: 2. will this work with manfrotto 190L tripod?

A: The Manfrotto 504X Fluid Video Head with Flat Base (B&H# MAMVH504XAH) may be used with the Manfrotto 190XPROL Aluminum Tripod Legs (B&H# MA190XPROL) and very many other tripods (Manfrotto and non Manfrotto) that accept a tripod head with a flat base.

Q: 3. Does 504X fluid head fit Manfrotto 755CX3 Tripod legs?

A: Yes it will fit on those legs.

Q: 4. Does 504X fluid head fit the satchler flowtech 75 legs?. I am thinking of buying the two of them

A: To use this Manfrotto head with the Satchler Flowtech 75 legs you will need 75mm ball adapter. I would recommend the Vinten 75mm ball base (BH #VI75BB) with the Sachtler Tie-Down Knob (BH #SAS2150-1300).

Q: 5. Best tripod legs for this head?

A: Great head but I would rather prefer the flat head that comes with 3/4 thread its it more stable and steady. And also can use it one any tipped that has 3/4 thread. Love Manfrotto. Great stuff

Q: 6. How much weight in Kgs could the 504X can carry?

A: 26.5 lb Maximum Safe Load Equals 12.0202 Kilograms Maximum safe load

Q: 7. I have the exact head but came with the flat base, I'm wondering if I can buy the half ball adaptor to use on my Manfrotto 055 tripod?

A: The Manfrotto 055 line of tripods all have a flat top. They will take a flat base video head without an adapter.

Q: 8. Are there any 60mm half bowl tripod legs? I have only been able to find 75mm that require an adapter. I got this head because it is more portable than the 502HD, just hard to believe there are no half bowl legs that fit, at least not that I can find.

A: I just bought a Viltrox VX-18M which has great legs (and a not-so-great fluid head) and a 60mm half bowl. You can buy the tripod just for the legs and put this Manfrotto head on it.

Q: 9. Can you use Arca swiss foot plates?? on this manfrotto. I have installed really right stuff foots on all my canon long lens??

A: This Tripod takes a 504PLONGR-1 Quick Release Plate. An Arca swiss-style plate could be used with an adapter such as a Really Right Stuff B2-LLR-II Lever-Release Clamp (80mm) (SKU: RERELESECLMP) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1301154-REG/really_right_stuff_b2_llr_ii_quick_release_c_lever_release_style_quick_release_clamp.html

Q: 10. Will this head accept Arca-Swiss plates?

A: This head will accept Arca-Swiss plates.

[Fluid Head] I bought the Manfrotto 504x along with my Sirui P-204 SR Monopod. After further debate between getting that or the 502AH or the 500AH fluid heads, I bit the bullet and made the purchase on the newly released 504x. Boy am I happy I did. Although it is very bulky, it's not as heavy as I expected. I'm able to sit it on the Sirui monopod without it falling over. Also the 504x, balances well with my Sony a7iii and my Tamron 28-75 lens. I thought the step counter balance would be an issue, but it balances quite well with my sony mirrorless camera. The fluid movement is quite easy to dial up, and it doesn't take much to get those buttery smooth movements and it pans with extreme precision. There is a slight crunch noise when you tighten the fluid drag too tight, but it's only crunch once in the direction you are going, but I find it only happens as you try to take the fluid drag and panning to it's limit, but once you find the the perfect balance that's not too tight, it doesn't click, instead it rewards you with a super smooth quiet motion. It certainly has some weight to it, but I find it to be manageable with my monopod for a few hours, but when using a tripod, you will certainly get more stability as far as weight is concern. I enjoy using this Fluid head with my monopod better than with the tripod despite the weight.

[Yes] Great smooth fluid head--perfect for DSLR and even Micro 4/3 cameras. Easy to configure and set up. I'm actually using this on an older Bogen/Manfrotto stand but it fits perfectly. Ease of adjustment and nice quick release plate. Nice that it has ability to add additional handle as well as additional hardware rack. Good head at a decent price.

[Yes] I took a chance in I took a chance with this new model after reading many negative reviews. I'm glad I did. It is fingertip smooth and with just a little bit of brake drag, it handles with a light touch for positioning at any point. It also has no wipback. Give this one a try. My rig weighs in at 7.7 Lbs.

[Yes] I use Manfrotto exclusively, so all my camera's have plates and I can interchange. Tripod, slider, jib, teleprompter. All have Manfrotto quick release plates, so anything can fit everything, Manfrotto heads in my opinion are the best bang for the buck, bar non.

[Fluid Head] I used this on a flat base by removing the bold and tightener on the bottom of the ball part, works fine that way too. Nice and smooth motion and great stability. Using it with a Canon EOS R and a few lenses, it's very fluid.

The price is right for someone like me who is not a videographer and only needs for small jobs and occasional video projects. I'm sure even a professional videographer will make good use of this, but your camera size and weight will start to play into it more. If I do video it's mainly the camera and lens. No external monitors or on camera lighting or large lenses.

[2.17 lb] I have the previous model and there was several things I didn't like about it, for one the locking mechanism for the mounting plate.
This one is the best, easy to use and fast when I need to remove the camera. The fluid movement is excellent, and I have no complains about the unit after 5 months of usage. I am glad I did buy it, the old one was driving me nuts.

[Fluid Head] I have come full circle in tripod heads. Years ago I started with a Manfrotto video head tripod combo I bought for still photography. Yes my medium format kit is heavy and over the years became ridiculously have as I ventured into telephoto lenses. Eventually this original head couldn't take the load anymore and gave up.

From there I followed the crowds initio large ball head, to eventually end up with expensive gimbal options. However I really struggled to get a stable picture with a super long telephoto lens and could never match the quality I previously had with the video head. When the gimbal gave up on working with me, I stared looking for video heads that could carry the load, and would not increase my backpack load too much.

I found the 504x a great compromise, not to heavy compared to the gimbal, and the Manfrotto mounting plate is much bigger than the arca system, which is where Manfrotto wins the first challenge to get tripod stability.

With my long lens kit at maximum loaf the 504x still maintains stability, however the counter balance is less effective. Which is according to the specs.

Very happy with my choice, and I have the same flexibility and maneuverability as with a gimbal, however with much more stability.

[Yes] This video head is well made and very smooth. I had doubts about the four step counterbalance, but so far no problems. This video head is not small or light, especially compared to photo heads. However, it works great and is built like a tank. I expect this will last for many years to come.

[Yes] Looking for a fluid head tripod for my Magnus vt 3000, the head had been damaged and needed a replacement . looking specifications as 60mm Half Ball . excellent quality and good price.

[Yes] I was happy with Benro heads until I tried Manfrotto. There is a noticable difference. This has a much smoother pan and tilt. I use this with a 5D3 and 70D. Although it is a ball head, it can be used with any tripod or accessory that accepts a 3/8 thread. Solid build construction. Worth the money.
