Q: 1. Hi, I am a beginner to this kind of HDMI switch/mixer, I want to know any PAL/NTSC input source (camera) restriction apply to this switcher?

A: It is a world standard switcher so it can accept either PAL or NTSC signals. You cannot mix them however; you must choose one or the other.

Q: 2. Will this show up as a webcam through the USB?

A: The USB on this is for control only. It does not have a USB output for video.

Q: 3. Is there some way to incorporate tally lights with this unit? I need to make sure the talent knows which camera is live, so they can speak to the correct one. Thanks!

A: There is no tally integration with this switcher and that is what is needed to operate tally lights.

Q: 4. When I "mix" the 2 video sources, specifically: 1) live camera, and 2) words with chromatic (i.e. green screen) background, will the mixer remove the chromatic key background? How do you setup an input so that the mixer knows it has chromatic keying coming in?

A: The answer to this question is a little more complex than we can address here... Q: 5. Is there a PAL version of this switch? If so, could I still use a NTSC based camera as an input?

A: Sadly I have no idea, but I love the switcher.

Q: 6. Does the V1-HD accept both PAL and NTSC signals?

A: Yes it does, this can be set for either PAL or NTSC signals.

Q: 7. Can I connect this device (out) to a VR3X (in)?

A: That would be possible. You could take the output from the V-1HD and connect it to the Roland VR-3EX's 4th HDMI input. The 4th HDMI input on the VR-3EX can accept an HD signal.

Q: 8. What program or device is recommended for playing mpeg videos? Ideally, the video would automatically play when that source is selected so the operator doesn't have to press play after the source is selected.

A: The Roland V-1HD is HDCP compliant, which gives you a wide variety of options for MPEG Video Playback. You could connect a computer with an HDMI output directly to this unit, or you could look at Media Players with HDMI like a Roku or Apple TV. You could even connect a tablet to this switcher and play back video that way. However there is no product available that will automatically start playing when you switch to the assigned channel, the operate will have to manually start the video.

Q: 9. how do i broadcast in youtube with this?

A: You need to encode the Roland's output so you can get it into your computer. Once in the computer, the video will mount on your desktop. Then open YouTube and select your video stream and you are on your way. Please see the attached for a recommended encoder, the Magewell XI100DUSB HDMI USB 3.0 Capture Dongle.

Q: 10. Can the SDI channel 1/2 accept analog SD SDI signal? We have PDW-510 which outputs analog SDI signals as well as PMW-200 which has HD-SDI output. We would then use 2 computer sources via HDMI ch 3/4If it can't are there any adapters out there to covert the signal? This device would serve our needs perfectly.Many thanks in advance!

A: The V-1SDI only accepts only HD (and not SD) signals. Specifically, the SDI inputs 1-3 accept 720/59.94p, 720/50p (SMPTE 296M), as well as 1080/59.94i, 1080/50i, 1080/59.94p, 1080/50p (SMPTE 274M).

[Black] I purchased mine from a different retailer here in Canada, I've had 0 issues with overheating or issues of that sort. I think a particular con that should be noted though, is that it does have fans, and like most other switchers I have used, in a quiet room it is relatively very loud for such a small unit. The ATEM TV studio had fins on the rear that you could cook eggs on when it was running, but it was silent. The ease of traveling with this thing is sort of life changing. I'll take its shortcomings (not many worth noting for price and size really) with grace. I highly recommend it. 5

[Black] This Deal of the Day was a truly great deal. Havent used it on a shoot yet, but did set it up with two cameras, a GoPro, and a Laptop, and its ready to rock and roll. A lot of capability in a small package. Looking forward to the first shoot with it. 5

[Black] Will update review as I log some more hours on this unit, as I havent had a chance to do much more than turn it on. Was pretty blown away at the deal I got through B&H. First I bought a refurbished Roland V-1SDI for close to $400 off due to it being refurbished, I had been saving for this to incorporate live streaming into my business. Then one morning I log on, and the V-1SDI refurbished units are on sale in the Deal Zone for $499..... Take my money! Saved close to $1000 by buying refurbished on additional sale from B&H. Currently have the rest of the cables/accessories to fully test the unit. Will update the review as I put more hours into the unit. 5

[Black] This is an update to a previous review; Roland proactively contacted me based on my previous feedback (quoted as originally written below) and has done a great job of making things right and standing behind their product. Roland Technical Support was prompt and professional in exchanging the defective unit we had received initially for a replacement unit; in addition to the manufacturer's own burn-in and testing period, we've used the replacement switcher on some fairly hot days outside and the it has been stable. The surface of the switcher still gets noticeably warm, but no further crashes or instability have been reported from the field, and it does a great job of being a simple yet powerful little switcher. It's not without a few quirks and default settings that should always be checked - most notably, the sleep timer that isn't disabled by default - but it's a great value and for simple jobs, nice and easy to just setup and go compared to anything else in this price range. ORIGINAL REVIEW FROM 4/10/17, which this review replaced: Except for the fact that it has repeatedly overheated, in the middle of a show, dropping all inputs and outputs until it is manually power-cycled, it's a fantastic piece of gear. Until Roland comes up with a solution / better thermal design in hardware, it's probably best to stick with the older, more stable V-1HD and spend the money you'll save on a few SDI/HDMI converters.... 5

[Black] Bought this as a gift. my school uses the traditional 400 dollar bruntons, but they were a bit out of my price range. Purchased this instead and couldn't be happier. Very simple to use. 5
