Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this show up as a webcam through the USB?

A: The USB on this is for control only. It does not have a USB output for video.

Q: 2. Can I connect this device (out) to a VR3X (in)?

A: That would be possible. You could take the output from the V-1HD and connect it to the Roland VR-3EX's 4th HDMI input. The 4th HDMI input on the VR-3EX can accept an HD signal.

Q: 3. What latency does this product incur? If I used a live camera to screen or played a video to screen on a conference, would the vision be in sync to microphones? or as close as. I can't see the latency on the specs. Thanks

A: Normal switching there is no lag, but you can add delay if needed to the audio on this switcher so that it lines up with any video that may be delayed by projectors, etc. The menus are really comprehensive and there are one or two great longer in depth videos on youtube on this switcher that go into it in a bit more detail including one that touches on the ability to add delay to audio if needed.

Q: 4. When I "mix" the 2 video sources, specifically: 1) live camera, and 2) words with chromatic (i.e. green screen) background, will the mixer remove the chromatic key background? How do you setup an input so that the mixer knows it has chromatic keying coming in?

A: The answer to this question is a little more complex than we can address here... For your convenience, I am providing this link for you, which will take you to our product page: https://bhpho.to/2SYPafQ Here you will find the product manual as a PDF which will open right on the page. If you go to Page 24 in that manual, you will find a very detailed breakdown on handling DSK effects and that should address your inquiry with precision.

Q: 5. how do you show media clips? does that take a channel?

A: I use a laptop to slides and play clips and it does take up a channel. I know of no way around this.

Q: 6. Can this switcher store a logo?

A: No, as there is no usb memory port

Q: 7. What program or device is recommended for playing mpeg videos? Ideally, the video would automatically play when that source is selected so the operator doesn't have to press play after the source is selected.

A: The Roland V-1HD is HDCP compliant, which gives you a wide variety of options for MPEG Video Playback. You could connect a computer with an HDMI output directly to this unit, or you could look at Media Players with HDMI like a Roku or Apple TV. You could even connect a tablet to this switcher and play back video that way. However there is no product available that will automatically start playing when you switch to the assigned channel, the operate will have to manually start the video.

Q: 8. Does this have a loud fan? The V-1HD does and it is not usable in a quiet environment.

A: This is a brand new product, which we have yet to receive in stock, and have therefore, not been able to test it in a real life environment. There are currently no sources that specify how loud or quiet the fan on this unit may be.

Q: 9. how do i broadcast in youtube with this?

A: You need to encode the Roland's output so you can get it into your computer. Once in the computer, the video will mount on your desktop. Then open YouTube and select your video stream and you are on your way. Please see the attached for a recommended encoder, the Magewell XI100DUSB HDMI USB 3.0 Capture Dongle.

Q: 10. Is it possible to connect a HDMI out from a laptop displaying power point to the mixer V 1HD and the HDMI output of Sony PMW Ex1R. how can we record the output signal?

A: Purchase a program from Telestream's Wirecast Play 6 for $10It can record and livestream to YouTube. It gives you the option to download the production in HD.

[Green] This is a fantastic piece of equipment. I absolutely love it. Well made, light, and loaded with features. I purchased AV Matrix converter boxes to use with the Roland v-1SDI; HDMI to SDI, and SDI to HDMI. The v-1SDI is easy to use, and has an intuitive interface. The free Roland companion software works great too. Dollar for dollar, this Roland device is an extraordinary value. Get it's matching case too.

[Green] Bought this as a gift. my school uses the traditional 400 dollar bruntons, but they were a bit out of my price range. Purchased this instead and couldn't be happier. Very simple to use.

[Green] I was fortunate to get this item at considerable mark down that put it within the reach of my budget. The last time I owned a video switcher it worked only if all the connected cameras were genlocked.  This unit enables use of non-genlocked cameras.  So, by getting a couple of component-video-to-SDI converters I was able to start using my two Sony FX1 HD cameras to do live switching.  And this unit provide an incredible range of customization to adapt it to your needs.

[Green] Still working on a second order to get all the needed cables/accessories to fully use the Roland V-1SDI with my cameras but wanted to preemptively put a review on B&H.

I bought a refurbished V-1SDI through B&H while they were also on the Deal Zone. Ended up saving close to $1000 on my unit by shopping here. For a small business that is just starting to invest in mobile broadcasting, this incredible deal is helping my bottom line.

Will update this review as I get more hands on experience, till then kudos to B&H!

[Green] I wanted to try out the new rare earth magnetic needle, which is supposed to be more stable, and less effected by near by metals. I haven't had this compass long enough to prove or disprove this claim. The compass housing is classic Brunton design. When closed the lid fully covers the compass base. The lanyard attaches at the lid hinge, which causes a problem laying the compass flat on the map unless the lanyard is tucked into the open space between the hinge and compass base. Sighting a land mark with the mirror is similar to other mirror compass designs. Sighting with the lid laid flat would be enhanced if there was a white sighting line on the inside of the lid below the notch. The needle settles reasonably quickly. When closed the rounded corners give it a nice comfortable feel in the hand. If it doesn't develop a bubble, as some previous Brunton compasses I've owned have done I will be happy with this compass. It also comes wtth 2 Topo Buddy Universal Scale Cards. Sandwiched between heavier stock cards to protect the scale cards. That are riveted at one corner so they can pivot out for use, which is open to permit attachment of a lanyard. The 2 scale cards cover most commonly used scales and also include UTM grid scales. The cards are to large to fit inside the lid, they measure 6.2 cm x 9.1 cm. approximately the size of the compass base.

[Green] As always I get a product, check for latest firmware and software before use. Since then had it for 8 months and never any problem with it. Used it in several 8 hours event production with computer and cameras and works perfect. On a table with cables and airflow in open air. One small note maybee but always important, same format on all inputs important (apart from the hdmi 3 scaler input) can make it lock up.. mostly used it in 1080i or 720p.

[Green] easy to set up and use. Don't know it can hold a title slide image but other than that it is perfect.

[Green] I purchased mine from a different retailer here in Canada, I've had 0 issues with overheating or issues of that sort. I think a particular con that should be noted though, is that it does have fans, and like most other switchers I have used, in a quiet room it is relatively very loud for such a small unit. The ATEM TV studio had fins on the rear that you could cook eggs on when it was running, but it was silent. The ease of traveling with this thing is sort of life changing. I'll take its shortcomings (not many worth noting for price and size really) with grace. I highly recommend it.
