Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I apologize in advance for asking! Filters that you sell B+W 77mm XS-Pro UV MRC-Nano 010M and B+W 58mm XS-Pro UV MRC-Nano 010M are made in Germany or in China?

A: According to the information we have, our current inventory's Country of Origin is Germany. Please be aware this can change over the product's production life without notice.

Q: 2. What's the difference between the 007 version and the 010 version?

A: The difference between the B+W 67mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 007 Filter (B&H # BWCXSP67) and the B+W 67mm XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter (B&H # BWUVXSP67) is the Clear MRC-Nano 007 Filter is a completely clear filter that has no filtration whatsoever, and is used simply for its protection properties and ease of cleaning. The UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter may also be used for protection and cleaning needs, but in addition to the above, it is also designed to absorb/block ultraviolet light, which reduces the bluish cast of daylight, and reduces atmospheric haze. . In bright daylight, near bodies of water or snow, in high atmospheres, and in some urban situations, a UV haze filter may also assist in cutting through atmospheric haze to assist you in obtaining a higher quality image. In regards to urban situations, ALL haze may not be eliminated as some urban haze is due to smog and/or air pollution, and not due primarily to UV reflection. Other than one being clear and one having UV haze filtration, the filter size and the brass filter ring would be identical. Both use high-quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity and have a thin brass ring designed to reduce/eliminate vignetting on full-frame lenses up to 24mm wide, or on APS-C sensor lenses up to 18mm wide, or on Micro Four Thirds lenses up to 12mm wide

Q: 3. I notice the disclaimer in the Overview section that his filter ring's outside diameter is slightly larger than the actual thread size, and because of this you may be unable to attach the lens manufacturer's bayonet-mounted lens hood to the lens while using this filter. Will this filter fit on Nikon 24-120 f/4 lens with the lens hood?

A: Yes, the HB-53 lens hood that comes with the 24-120 f/4 Is a bayonet mount that doesn't have any thing to do with the filter thread. It attaches to the lens.

Q: 4. Will the lens hood on the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens fit on with this filter attached? I also noticed the disclaimer that it will not fit some lens with bayonet hoods.

A: I can now answer my own question, YES it will. I have now received & installed this filter and the lens hood fits over it w/o any problem.

Q: 5. Can I screw a polarizing filter on top of this one? Thanks!

A: As the B+W 62mm XS-Pro UV MRC-Nano 010M Filter has 62mm front filter threads (as listed under the Specifications tab), you may use a polarizer filter with 62mm filter threads on top of this filter.

Q: 6. Will you still be able to attach the lens hood on a Zeiss Batis 18mm f/2.8 lens for Sony e mount when this B+W uv filter is on the lens? I read somewhere that it couldn't.

A: This filter can still fit while the lens hood is attached.

Q: 7. Does the new Canon E-82 II 82mm Lens Cap fit with this filter?

A: Yes it does. And it stays on. The outside threads on the filter grip the lens cap -- same as if you put the lens cap on the lens without the filter.

Q: 8. Is there a front thread to attach additional accessories?

A: The 67mm XS-Pro UV MRC-Nano 010M Filter does have a 67mm front filter thread.

Q: 9. Can I use this with Canon 70-200 mm f/2.8 (version III) lens with Hood or can still be able to close the cap?

A: If one uses the B+W 77mm XS-Pro UV Haze MRC-Nano 010M Filter with the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 (version III) with the hood, one should still be able to close the cap.

Q: 10. I have a Canon EF-S 15-85mm lens. Would there be any problem using this filter with the lens hood? There is note in the descriptions that mentions it may not work with bayonet-mounted lens hoods. Anyone have any experience using this with a EF-S 15-85mm?

A: I have a 7D with a EF-S 15-85. There is no issue with this filter and the Canon lens hood (either deployed normally or reversed).

[Brass] I’m new to IR photography. I’m using a Sony F828 with the magnet hack (Google it) & various external filters. I started with standard filters such as 720nm & 850nm but wanted something to pass more color for a more interesting twist. This 550nm delivers; it was worth the wait. It’s a lot of fun and making me enjoy photography again. There’s a lot of information out there about post-processing. Play with channel swapping (Photoshop channel mixer) to flex your creative muscles.

[Brass] Works great on full spectrum cameras. Lets you get into the deep infrared on 720nm or higher converted cameras.

[62 mm] Infrared takes a hole lot of experimenting. If you convert a camera I would say make a Full Spectrum Conversion. After that a full set of filters to se your options. This filter is one of the most user friendly filters you can get for it. Have fun with it if you get it.

[0.295 lb] After long ago exploring IR images with Kodak chemical films, I purchased the Kolari K665Pro and K720Pro to use on a stock Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and Canon lenses. I chose the Kolari Pro Gen series for their sharp cutoff spectra as well as their filter coatings compared to Kolari's base series or Hoya. The Kolari Pro quality / performance / price point trade-offs were great IMHO.

I posted a review of the 665 and can not say enough positives about it!!! 5 stars!!!

Still experimenting with the 720. It is slightly more technically challanging on a stock camera, but just as impressive as the 665 so far. Highly recommend the Kolari Pro Gen series for anyone getting into IR!!!
