Apple silicon has arrived to the Apple Mac Pro. Now featuring the M2 Ultra 24-Core CPU, the Mac Pro allows creative professionals to tackle the most demanding workflows with speed and efficiency. Combined with a 76-Core GPU and 192GB of unified RAM with 800 GB/s of memory bandwidth, the Mac Pro has the performance of seven Afterburner cards built-in. The media engine in the M2 Ultra can handle up to 22 streams of 8K ProRes video. The 4TB SSD allows for fast boot and load times.

Upgrade the Mac Pro with ease, thanks to its six PCIe Gen 4.0 slots. There are two PCIe Gen 4.0 x16 slots and four PCIe Gen 4.0 x8 slots. There is also a half-length PCIe Gen 3.0 x4 slot that is occupied by the Apple I/O card. Speaking of I/O, the Mac Pro features eight Thunderbolt 4 ports, all with 40 Gb/s data throughput and DisplayPort support. Connect to the internet via the dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet LAN jacks or go wireless with Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax). Bluetooth 5.3 allows you to connect compatible devices wirelessly.

The Mac Pro comes with the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Numeric Keypad and the Magic Mouse. All you need is a display to get started. You also don't have to stop at one screen since the Mac Pro can support up to eight 4K 60 Hz displays, six 6K 60 Hz displays, or three 8K 60 Hz displays.

The M2 Ultra is built from two M2 Max dies connected through UltraFusion, which is Apple's custom-built packaging technology. UltraFusion uses a silicon interposer that connects the dies with more than 10,000 signals, providing over 2.5 TB/s of low latency interprocessor bandwidth. UltraFusion's architecture enables the M2 Ultra to appear as a single chip to software. This means code doesn't need to be rewritten to utilize the extreme performance of the M2 Ultra.

The 24-Core CPU of the M2 Ultra consists of 16 next-gen performance cores and eight next-gen high-efficiency cores, delivering up to 20% faster performance than its predecessor, the M1 Ultra. Combined with a 76-core GPU and 192GB of unified RAM with 800 GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, this Mac Pro has the performance of not just one, but seven Afterburner cards built-in. It also features the industry-leading media engine, allowing playback of up to 22 streams of 8K ProRes video.

Combine Apple silicon performance with the versatility of PCI expansion. The Mac Pro features six PCIe Gen 4.0 slots, which provide twice the bandwidth for audio and video I/O, networking, and storage cards. [71 lb] Extremely fast and efficient. I do a lot of graphics and photography, both video and stills and love the speed of this machine. A little on the costly side, but you get what you pay for and this Mac Pro is worth it. Cost offset by increased speed of production. 5

[Integrated] When Microsoft banned computer hardware that didn't have the TPM chip and therefore would not run Windows 11, I said, That's it. Fool me once Microsoft. shame on you... What's to stop Microsoft from doing this again in the future? I began looking at alternatives and decided that running Windows 11 as a Virtual Machine (VM) inside a product called Parallels Desktop on a Mac was the way to go. I'm one who always assembled his own PC's and keeping my budget at $1000 for the box (no new monitor, keyboard, mouse, external devices) BUT, if I was going to run Windows 11 inside of my new Mac, the Mac had better be on the robust end of the spectrum. My former Macs have always had 8 to 16GB of RAM which was adequate for my usage. But since Windows 11 doesn't thrive until reaching 16GB, I decided that 32GB should be fine with this new Mac (it's perfect) Next, storage. VM's require a lot of storage space. I'm running a Windows 11 VM, Mac Sonoma (this is an additional Mac VM) and a Linux VM. My Mac now has 850GB free on a 2TB drive. Yes, get the 2TB storage! I have no storage insecurity which counts for a lot. Perhaps I'll try moving the VM's to external storage someday but I don't have resources for trying experiments now - using RAID arrays, etc. So now I have an expensive Mac (it's all relative, I know). I justify it by saying that I was going to have to buy my $1000 Windows box anyway plus I wanted the new Mac silicon. Installing Parallels Desktop and the Windows 11 VM is mostly an automated experience. Everything is fast. 5

[5.3] If you need to rip a lot of music for iTunes/Apple Music, you need a local host to store your files, either a PC or Mac. You can't use an iPad or iPhone to do so. I chose the Mac Mini for my wife's music library because it was reasonably priced compared to replacing her comparably configured MacBook Air and she only travels with her iPad. 5

[Integrated] I picked up a 2023 M2 Pro Mac Mini 16G / 1 TB. I have been on Mac for what seems forever. I am moving from an 3.2 core i7 2018 Mac mini. First...free overnight shipping with signature. Perfect.... computer is not going to a porch pirate. The machine is awesome. I expect to hold on to this for several years. I perfect this form factor over the Mac Studio. This machine is so fast. it boots in about 15 seconds. The Apple Logo and progress bar at boot time, barely spend any time on screen before the desktop appears and the machine is up and running. There is nothing holding this Mac back. I am really pleased with it. B&H Photo... they are awesome and I have my eye on a few more things I need. No regrets!! 5
