Compatible with lenses with 55mm filter threads, this Neewer Variable ND Filter 55mm 1-5 Stopfrom Neewer features a built-in, rotating ring that controls neutral density ranging from 1-5 stops. The variable ND2-ND32 filter allows you to add a sense of movement to an image such as capturing the blur of the rippling water of a waterfall or light trails by affording more control over your shutter speed. With its 9.5mm thickness, this filter also avoids possible vignetting on wide-angle lenses. Constructed with optical glass and an aluminum frame, this lightweight filter's design also has 30 layers of double-sided nano coatings for an anti-oil, anti-dust, anti-scratch, and water-repellent surface that can keep your lens safe.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can you use third-party filters like breakthrough photography filters in this adapter?

A: The Meike Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF to EOS-R with Variable ND Filter is a lens adapter that includes a Drop-In Variable ND Filter (ND3-ND500) and clear drop in filter. It is not designed to hold any other filter.

Q: 2. Will this holder hold filters made to fit the canon adapter?

A: The Meike Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF to EOS-R with Variable ND Filter is a lens adapter. And comes with a Drop-In Variable ND Filter (ND3-ND500) and clear drop in filter. And is made only for that adapter.

Q: 3. If using only legacy lenses, a mount adapter would always be needed, but not the ND filter. If shooting when the filter is not needed, would I have to purchase the basic mount adapter, or can I just remove the filter from the adapter?

A: Yes, that is correct. SOMETHING has to be in the filter slot 1) in order to simply keep dust and debris out of the adapter (without the ND filter or the clear filter, there would be a large opening in your adapter on which your lens connects), and 2) as the adapter was designed with the ND filter in mind, the filter becomes part of the optical formula. Without a piece of glass with the same design and size in the slot, it may affect proper focusing. As such, the Canon Drop-In Clear Filter A, B&H # CADICFA, is required when you are not using the ND filter and you do not want the effect of an ND filter on your image.

Q: 4. Will this help dissipate heat for the Canon R5?

A: No.

Q: 5. Does this seriously not come with a cover for when the filter is not in place? That would be Canon's ultra-stingy style.

A: You can get Canon Drop-In Clear Filter A for when you don't wont to use a ND filter https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1434115-REG/canon_3444c001_drop_in_clear_filter_a.html

Q: 6. Does this VND cause the "x"?

A: None that we can see. The ND stopped all the way down looks great with no X over the video.

Q: 7. Is there a way to secure the adapter when using larger (cinema) lenses?

A: While the Meike Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF to EOS-R with Variable ND Filter could not be secured, you would have to secure the lens itself.

Q: 8. Is it compatible with the metabones speedbooster on a Sony FS7? Stabilisation Will work?

A: This is not compatible with the FS7 or any other E-Mount camera. This is an EF to EOS R Adapter.

Q: 9. Can it be used together with other adapters for EF to GFX?

A: Yes, mounting is possible when using more than one adapter. However, from our tests, the results have been wildly variable - from inoperability to semi-operability based on the make of the adapter, the firmware versions employed by lens, camera, and adapter, etc. As such, we cannot fully endorse such a combination.

Q: 10. Anyone noticed any cross polarization (looks like vignetting) with this variable ND?

A: Hi,I just tested this for you. No cross polarization or heavy vignetting across a variety of lenses.

[Aluminum] Those variable ND filters are PERFECT. I love the fact that is does not have infinity rolling, so you actually know when you're at the minimum or maximum filter value. Just like a regular iris. Way better than the others brands, where there's no physical limit so you can turn it all the way to the max, and suddenly switch to the minimum value...

[Glass] Great item for the price! Love using this with off camera flash and a great background in my portraits! No color contrasts and easy to use. Wish it had a dial that gave the stop amount instead of little squares. I like how it's made of glass and metal, very sturdy! I would recommend this to anyone!

[Aluminum] I did a exterior shooting with a f1.4 at 2pm and believe me, I had amazing shots with this baby. You can have full exposure and the ND filter halfway through. Image resulted like a dynamic range footage!

[55 mm] This is a great variable Neutral Density filter I use primarily for portraits in bright light outside to match my old Nikon D5000 flash X-sync of 1/200 sec with the ambient light. Works just fine. As always, great service by B&H - Thanks!

[Aluminum] I was a little skeptical purchasing this filter with no consumer reviews. The filter is a quality piece with smooth mocement. It doesn't click between stops so it is infinitely adjustable from 2-8 stops. If I had to nitpick, the only feature I would like is to be able to tell what stop I'm at without having to look, like a click or a notch so I could tell as I'm adjusting, what step it's at. This is something I would recommend for an economy ND filter!

[Aluminum] I do not use this a lot, but when I do it performs as I would expect on my D750 and associated lenses. Would buy it again.

[55 mm] I didn't notice any light leaks, color cast, vignetting or an x-effect.

These K&F filters have a hard stop at both ends whereas some of their other variable ND filters spin freely.

Overall a really great value. Perfect for video!

[Aluminum] The VND itself looks very good. No ugly X over the image. The game changers for me are the hard stops on the variable ring and the magnetic mount. I got rid of my tiffen immediately.
