The Telescopic Baby Stand Extension 49" for Enhanced Safetyfrom Telescopic Baby Stand Extension 49" for Enhanced Safetyis a functional addition to any photo or video set. It features a 5/8" baby receiver, a 5/8" baby stud, and three telescoping sections that will extend the height of a light stand from 17.6 to 49". Thick telescoping sections are rigid and stable for when you need to put your lights and accessories in hard-to-reach or inaccessible places. Strong metal brake castings in each lock prevent lights and accessories from slipping or rotating out of position. This extension can also be used to add more length for placing a light, camera, microphone, or even a reflector exactly where it's needed. It can also be used with a super clamp to attach to a desk or table, or with a scissor clamp to suspend fixtures from a ceiling grid.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I am looking for something like this but with a baby plate to mount to the ceiling instead of mounting two parts with a separate baby plate. Do you sell any telescopic extensions with baby plate?

A: If looking to bolt the plate into the ceiling, you may only do so by using a separate baby plate like the Matthews Baby Plate - 3 B&H # MABP3 with this extension.

Q: 2. Does this affect the payload capacity of a stand since it increases the height? I.e. if the max payload is 5kg for a stand

A: This would depend on the stand this is being used on. If we are using a strong stand such as a C Stand or Stronger like a Combo Stand then this extension would have no affect on Load Capacity. However if we are using a simple aluminum stand which already has a low Load Capacity of 5kg then it would affect the overall Payload of the stand. It would cause the payload to sway which may cause the stand to tip over. If you need the extra height then it would be better to use a lower payload than what the stand was rated for or use Sand Bags on the bottom of the stand to increase stability.

Q: 3. If this extension is used to connect a tether table to a runway stand base, will the setup be sturdy enough to use a laptop safely or will the whole thing be too wobbly?

A: It would depend on how you attached it but it could work if you want your laptop 2 feet off the ground.

Q: 4. Is this compatible with the inovativ cart c stand clamp holder?

A: No, the Matthews Telescopic Baby Stand Extension is too small for the Inovativ C-Stand Storage Clamps.

Q: 5. If attaching this to this the impact ceiling mount does it reduce the overal maximum load? [Will be drilling this into cement ]

A: The support weight of the Impact Telescopic Baby Stand Extension (49") does not change when you attach it to another support. But what ever has the least support weight the stand extension or the mount will be the maximum support.

Q: 6. Does the fixed 5/8 stud have internal threads on the end and what are they?

A: No, the 5/8 stud on the top of the Matthews Telescopic Baby Stand Extension does not have threads.

Q: 7. How much weight could this hold if i decide to use this as a boom arm?

A: This extension is not recommended for use as a boom arm, therefore the manufacturer would not offer a load capacity in this case. Matthews does offer the Matthews Baby Boom, B&H # MABBM which can fit light stands with a 5/8" pin, specifically C-stands or roller stands. https://bhpho.to/2ZCoRhS

Q: 8. What size/thread is the hole in the top (male) baby stud?

A: It is not threaded.

Q: 9. Can I use this with the Matthews Reverse Stand - 7' (2.1m) ?

A: Yes, the Matthews Telescopic Baby Stand Extension will work on the Matthews Reverse Stand.

Q: 10. Support weight?

A: Yes. Not sure how much you want to support. I actually use mine to support the ends of a full size 4' slider when it is on a dolly. So it is partially supporting a 2575 head and full Alexa package.

[5/8" Stud] I am using this as combo with Impact Telescoping Tabletop Light Stand for my table - So my floor is empty for the PC case, and now my Amaran cob 60D with Small softbox is sitting on my desk!

[1.325 lb] I bought these extension poles to use with a few of my smaller (in height) portable light stands, and they do exactly what they say they will. When used, they are not as sturdy or stable as a longer, heavy-duty light stand, so I only intend to use them with lighter LED light fixtures. For that they should be perfect.

[5/8" Stud] With an inexpensive tube cutter and 5/32 allen wrench you can easily disassemble, cut down, and reassemble this stand extension to make it shorter. It also helps to have a small file for removing any burs. You simply have to cut a uniform amount off of each tube section. Unfortunately, you will have to cut off the flared end on the smallest tube which prevents it from being over extended, yet the flared ends for all other tube sections can be left intact by simply cutting the opposite non-flared ends.

In my case I needed to mount a teleprompter approximately 17 inches plus or minus a few inches above the top of a sit stand desk, and could not find an appropriate tripod after a great deal of searching. All the tripods were either too tall, too short, were not adjustable within the range needed, or couldn't handle the weight. A combination of an 18 round board from Home Depot, a Mathews mounting plate with a 5/8 receiver, a Manfrotto 208 3/8 head mounting plate, and the modified Matthews telescopic baby stand extension did the trick. I ended up shortening the stand extension twice, as I didn't cut enough off the first time.

My decision to attach the mounting plate with bolts and washers required a slight countersink on the underside of the board to make room for them. Wood screws might have been just as secure, and would certainly have been quicker.

[1.325 lb] This was just the ticket. I used it with a super clamp, so I could mount this anywhere, even away from the light-stand / tripod. I had it first mounted to a deck railing to hold a diffusion screen, then later used it to hold a strobe in a large soft-box. Worked very well.

[5/8" Receiver] I love this accessory. It can really come in handy if you need more extension from a light stand. Which, if you've shot enough, happens often. It is well built and feels solid. It comes with 4 aluminum extensions and adds 49 to any existing light stand. The knobs are made of plastic, but they feel well-made, and the insides contain metal brake joint castings which add to the construction and strength. When locked into place, it feels strong and secure. I can see this extension used for a variety of instances, even beyond lights. With the right adapter, it works well for extending mics, reflectors and even cameras. You can also combine it with super clamps or scissor clamps to add even more versatility. I'm impressed with its strength. For curiosity's sake, I even rigged it horizontally and placed a lightweight light on the end of it to see how it would hold up. The light I used was a Raya 9 round soft light. And sure enough, it worked fine, which gives you a good idea of its build quality. I wouldn't put anything heavy on it in this configuration, since it is not made for horizontal mounting, but with a small, lightweight light fixture like a camera light, it could be used this way in a pinch. Overall, I'm very happy with this baby stand extension and feel it is a great addition to my lighting kit and adds flexibility. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]
