Designed for high-performance industrial server applications, the flexible and robust HighPoint PCIe 4.0 x16 NVMe RAID Controllerenables you to increase your storage capabilities with enhanced throughput and security solutions so you can streamline your application processes.

Sporting a PCIe 4.0 x16 host interface, the controller can easily slide into your server's expansion port enhancing data throughput with speeds up to 16GT/s, making it ideal for Intel, AMD, and ARM platforms. You get eight M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 x4 internal interfaces, each able to house 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110 sized SSDs, offering wide compatibility that can be scaled to your needs. An aluminum shield, heat sink, and internal fan system help dissipate heat, exhausting hot air out of the back vent of the card. This controller supports multiple RAID configurations including O, 1, 10, and Single, allowing you to set your personal preference on Windows, macOS, and Linux systems.

PCIe switch technology enables the controller to dynamically allocate up to x4 lanes of PCIe 4.0 transfer bandwidth to each 22110 M.2 SSD.

Multi-core and Multi-CPU platforms have plentiful resources, but these may not be properly allocated to the target application and NVMe media. HighPoint's HPT-Optimize utility simplifies the complicated tuning process for all multi-core platforms.

The SSD7749M enables administrators to optimize RAID performance by scaling available bus bandwidth up to 32 lanes and deliver up to 55,000 MB/s of transfer performance.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this drive compatible with the owc envoy pro sx enclosure?

A: No, the WD 4TB WD_BLACK SN850X Gaming Internal NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD would not be compatible as the OWC Envoy Pro enclosures are only intended for SSDs that are made for select Apple computers.

Q: 2. What's the maximum throughput?

A: Rocket series NVMe HBAs such as this 1508 8-Bay M.2 NVMe SSD PCIe 4.0 x16 Adapter Card are capable of fully saturating x16 lanes of 4.0 host bandwidth.

Q: 3. Will the WD Black SN850X WITH THE HEATSINK fit in the OWC Express 4M2 4-Slot M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure?

A: No, the OWC Express 4M2 has a built-in fan to cool the SSDs. The fan does not have the clearance to use the heatsink on the WD 2TB WD_BLACK SN850X Gaming Internal NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD with Heatsink.

Q: 4. Regarding above question, I’m running Ubuntu 24.04, but I won’t be using this card’s drives to boot. Will it work?

A: The HighPoint Rocket 7608A PCIe 5.0 x16 to 8-M.2x4 NVMe RAID AIC (B&H # HIR7608A) is compatible with Linux.

Q: 5. What is the difference between this NVME card and the HighPoint PCIe Gen5 x16 to 8-M.2x4 NVMe RAID AIC? Pros and cons?

A: The main difference between the HighPoint PCIe Gen5 x16 to 8-M.2x4 NVMe Switch AIC and the HighPoint PCIe Gen5 x16 to 8-M.2x4 NVMe RAID AIC is that the Switch model does not support RAID configurations. If you want to combine the M.2 SSDs into a RAID volume, then you would need the RAID model; the Switch model will have all drives as separate independent drives.

Q: 6. Is this compatible with Lenovo 16" Legion Pro 5i 16IRX8 ?

A: Yes, the WD 4TB WD_BLACK SN850X is compatible with the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i 16IRX8 Gaming Laptop.

Q: 7. Since the Heatsink would interfere with the OWC Express 4M2 fan, could I remove it and then it would work?

A: We do not recommend attempting to remove the WD 2TB WD_BLACK SN850X Gaming Internal NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD with Heatsink's heatsink.

Q: 8. Confused abt 2 answers on 4M2 compatibility with SN850X w/heatsink.. 1 says it works & 1 says it doesn't, which is it?

A: The WD 2TB WD_BLACK SN850X Gaming Internal NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD with Heatsink is not compatible with the OWC Express 4M2 4-Slot M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure. I would recommend using the non heat sink version of the SN850X instead.

Q: 9. Is this drive compatible with iMac, MacBook Pro?

A: No, the WD 4TB WD_BLACK SN850X Gaming Internal NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD is not compatible with recent (Intel, M1, or M2) Mac computers.

Q: 10. what are the best compatible NVME cards to install this? What are the best NVMe cards compatible with this enclosure?

A: The HighPoint RocketStor 6661A-NVMe Thunderbolt 3 to NVMe RAID Adapter is compatible with all M.2 2280 NVMe drives. The drive you choose will depend on the capacity and speed you require. BH #SASBRKT4P2TB would be an example of a compatible drive.

[Full Height] SSD7101A-1 is a great card. I installed 4x Samsung 970 EVO+ to be used for rendering and I get 13,000 MB/s.

A motherboard with 16x lanes is best for performance. It does come with a RAID software.

[3.28 lb] Installed in a 2010 MacPro in a x4 PCIe slot. Needs the Mac driver available from HighPoint. Found that it works under MacOS from 10.6.8 up to 10.12.6, unlike the manufacturers specs. Real world data transfer is around 100mB/sec... about twice as fast as FW800. Only issue TBD is its durability using it daily for external HDD backups.

[3.28 lb] Great mechanical design makes it easy to setup, and the vertical form factor takes up less space than the other single card chassis.

[Full Height] I've been using the Sonnet m.2 PCIe SSD for over a year now in my 2019 Mac Pro 7,1 and it was worked flawlessly. R/W is crazy fast. No issues. Nice to have the fast and upgradeable SSD for After Effects and current projects.

[3.28 lb] I replaced a Ableconn card that had two NVME installed but did not have a provision for a heat sink and so the cards failed after a little more than one year. The Sonnet provides for each NVME to be independently accesses and in parallel with multiple ones installed on the card and the data throughput was dramatically higher than with the Ableconn card.

The Sonnet has a very large heat sink and uses a special pad that is adhesive and also helps with heat transfer from the M.2 module to the aluminum heat sink. This should greatly extend the life of the modules.

[3.28 lb] The board is very well designed to support maximum read and write rates for the M.2 memory modules. It took a little bit of time to install as the M.2 modules are sandwiched between two layers of heat sink material to keep the modules from overheating and throttling back.

Once installed the OS detected the new modules and then I used Widows Disk Management to format the modules and then create a RAID1 partition with the two modules mirrored.

Lots of online support options for the computer novice to integrate the new memory modules or to set up the RAID level desired.

[Full Height] Really happy with my purchase, rocksolid performance and affordable price.

I did have some difficulty putting in a Blackmagic Mini Monitor 4k card though, as the card is designed to sit in a tower so I needed to modify the card slightly to fit. Now that it's in I'm getting amazing HDR 4K playback and couldn't be happier.
