The 300 watts per channel 4Ω QSC RMX850a Power Amplifier 300W per Channelis a 2RU rack mountable amplifier designed for live sound reinforcement applications. The amplifier features two Class AB output channels that can operate in either stereo or mono bridge mode. The unit operates on a standard 15 amp plug and utilizes high-current toroidal transformers for less noise and better performance when pushing a 2 ohm load. To reduce distortion, the amplifier utilizes independent user-defeatable clip limiters and includes LED indicator lights to show the presence of the signal and when the signal is clipping.

The chassis of the amplifier is designed with front to rear cooling vents and includes selectable low-frequency filters at 30 Hz and 50 Hz to protect speakers from bottoming out and improve headroom when driving mid and high frequencies. The front panel of the unit features two gain control knobs for easy access and each channel is protected by a dedicated DC and thermal overload protection circuit. For inputs, the back of the unit accepts both balanced 1/4" and XLR inputs. For outputs, the unit features both Neutrik Speakon and touch-proof binding post connections.

A: Connecting four 8 ohm speakers to a channel will present a 2 ohm load which the GXD 8 is not designed to handle. A minimum of 4 ohms per channel for proper operation is recommended by the manufacturer.

[< 0.01% (SMPTE)] I am a physicist. (energy physics not matter physics). I am also a sound engineer, coincidentally, the control of sound energy. This amp is VERY GOOD for bench testing audio control devices and speakers. The addition of an unbalanced input makes it very handy for typical bench tests. Because I am retired I also use commercial speakers for my home stereo system. Use of commercial speakers is much cheaper than consumer speaker products that, by and large, do Not provide full range audio despite deceitful specs claiming otherwise. The commercial speaker is also built to last and far more reliable than consumer designs. (will last decades under home stereo use... my last amp lasted 31 years... speakers are still going strong) I use this amp as my home stereo amp driving 1,200 watt rated commercial speakers that actually reproduce 20Hz. (actual amp power use rarely exceeds 75 watts peak and 25 watts average) In that unique use... the amp fan noise is detectable so I place it behind a glass paneled cabinet. Aside from fan noise, the amp performs very well and for the price is one of the best bargains there is. Keep in mind... the typical consumer stereo amp is Designed To Fail and the primary reason is.... no active fan cooling. (a flawed design that minimizes ambient noise) The amp provides plenty of dynamic headroom (nearly 6dB under typical home stereo use) and presents no excessive noise floor problems. I use a receiver with balanced XLR outputs, a balanced 31 band EQ to drive the amp and control volume. My speaker connections are Speakon. Bottom line... A very good simple amp for multiple purposes at a very good price. If you are an engineer who loves music and movies you will quickly recognize the wisdom of putting up with a bit of fan noise to achieve excellent performance and very long term reliability. 5

[2 RU] We are using this 2-channel amplifier to power 4 subwoofers wired in parallel, as the specs explicitly show support for our expected low-impedance setup and expected wattage. Note the unit is 3 RUs tall, make sure there is enough space in the rack if replacing an expired amplifier. The standard NEMA 5-15P (15 amp power plug) removable IEC included allowed for easy integration within our existing rack PDU setup. The simple, tried-and-true analog input wiring and dip switches were easy to integrate with our DSP, set preferred mode and filters. The physical power switch on the front is nice for our use case. The front dial appears to operate by digitally switching between gain steps, rather than a smooth analog potentiometer with physical start and stop limits. Not an issue for us but worth noting. We were impressed with the power output this amp is capable of, allowing us to drive the connected subwoofers at higher power levels than the previous amp could achieve given our low-impedance setup. For the sake of intelligibility, we dialed everything back enough to make our desired sub shake felt-not-heard but balanced with the meeting space's intended audio sources. 5

[< 0.01% (SMPTE)] My previous amp ran the fans from front to rear, but I prefer the way this amp blows from rear (inside the rack) to front. The RMX 850a has standard balanced input connectors, and multiple output connectors including advanced SpeakON. It's easy to configure for bridging, limiting, filtering, or other standard options. 5
