Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do the wheels on this stand lock?

A: Yes, the wheels lock. In fact, locking the wheels also locks the rotation of the caster, so it doesn't even shift from the connection of the caster to the leg.

Q: 2. What material is the black plating on the steel surfaces?

A: The Matthews Baby Junior Triple Riser Stand (Black, 12.25') BH #MABH386020 is painted.

Q: 3. How can I adapt these to smaller light stand legs that aren’t 1x1? Is there an accessory?

A: There is no adapter to connect casters to smaller diameter stand legs. You need to purchase the correct size for the stand you have.

Q: 4. What are the diameters of the riser sections? They seem to be smaller than the equivalent Avenger model (A1045CS with 45/40/35/30 mm).

A: The diameter of each riser section would be 1 , 1.25 , 1.5 and 1.75 (25/32/38/44mm).

Q: 5. What is the actual footprint diameter? A rep from MSE claims that most of the specs for the footprints are actually up to a foot less than in reality.

A: Yes, it has approximately a 43 inch foot print. But if set the legs not as wide it will have a smaller one.

Q: 6. Does it come with wheels already assembled or do you have to attach the wheels?

A: It comes already assembled. Best stand I ever had!!!

Q: 7. can i remove the wheels??

A: Not without permanently damaging the stand. But there is no need to do so as the wheels all have VERY stable locking mechanisms. Once you lock the wheels, the stand won't move. In fact, locking the wheels also locks the rotation of the caster, so it doesn't even shift from the connection of the caster to the leg. If you don't want wheels, you should get a C-stand instead.

Q: 8. What is a good travel bag for this stand ?

A: Great question! I ended up trading mine in for a slightly smaller Matthews Baby Jr. Steel Wheeled Stand, so that I could fit it into a Tenba 48 Rolling Tripod/Grip Case. I fill that bag with umbrellas and smaller stands as well and it all fits (but is very heavy). It does have wheels. Good luck!

Q: 9. Can a boom arm be safely added to this stand? If so, which is recommended?

A: Yes it can be used with a boom arm safely.

Q: 10. Does this stand have rack mount pin on the collar ? So it can be hung on the door of a truck ? Thanks

A: Yes, it has the rack mount pin opposite the t-handle so it fits well into the rack.

[Aluminum] A little pricier than others but you get what you pay for. Don't cheap out on your grip gear, it's a lifetime investment.

[Optional] For years a staple in the motion picture industry, the Hollywood combo is a workhorse. From HMIs to 4x floppys in a brisk breeze, this stand can carry it all. I how have three in my G&E package along with some beefy babies and some low boy combos. Great stand, great price.

[Yes] I wrecked a Matthews C Stand rigging it beyond what it was capable of handling. It was time to upgrade to the industry standard Hollywood combo stand. I went with the triple riser to get extra reach for use with a menace arm for overheads. I mounted an ETC leko on this stand for a shoot recently and it was super stable with a beefy fixture. I have high hopes this stand will last me for years and am looking forward to buying another. Note the spreader braces are an anodized orange color not chrome as pictured.

[Rectangular] Matthews makes great stands and this one is no exception. It is very sturdy and well made and will hold larger lights with ease. A great deal at the price.

[34 lb] I've got multiple SHAPE light stands and the quality is superb and I won't be buying any other brands of stands.

[Aluminum] This is a great combo stand for holding heavier lights. A wide foot print, with both a baby pin and junior pin adapter on the top. Hard to beat this stand, and it is quality.

[Yes] Your not in business unless u own 6 or more of these or the wheeled version. There isn't much you can't do when you have the Triple. Big or small lights - You can do it ! Ed knew what good was !

[Rectangular] Great quality and unique design features; I've got 3 of these and the wheels and can highly recommend. Something to note: the footprint of these SHAPE stands is a bit on the smaller side, but that actually helps me for the type of work I do (interior design photography). I have some Kupo stands of similar height with a much larger footprint and will use those when outdoors or with heavy wind. Also, one must not forget to weight down the stand, so that helps.
