The QSC RMX5050A 3600W Power Amplifier 3RUis a 3RU unit designed for high powered live sound reinforcement applications. The amplifier can operate in stereo, dual mono, or mono bridged modes and can handle output impedances between 2 and 8 ohms. The unit is rated at 1100W per channel at 8 ohms between 20 and 20,000 Hz, 1800W per channel at 4 ohms between 20 and 20,000 Hz, 2500W per channel at 2 ohms between 20 and 20,000 Hz, and 3600W at 8 ohms in bridged mono mode between 20 and 20,000 Hz. The amplifier utilizes high-current toroidal transformers for greater power and lower noise when driving 2 ohms loads.

For I/O, the unit accepts balanced 1/4" TRS, XLR, and barrier strip inputs as well as touch proof binding post and Neutrik Speakon outputs. The front panel features independent gain controls for both channels with LED indicator lights to monitor the presence of the signal and when the signal is clipping.

Each channel is built with DC and thermal overload protection. Independent user-defeatable clip limiters reduce distortion. A selectable 30 or 50 Hz low-frequency filter can be engaged to protect your speakers from bottoming out and increase overall headroom.

A: It can, if your home is sufficiently large. The amp is designed for speakers up to 300W (most home theater speakers don't go above 100W, which would fill a decent sized living room with sound.) So the GX3 would work, but you also may find it overkill (and if your speakers are too small or rated at 16 Ohm, you may blow your speakers if you turn the amp volume up too high.)

A: The QSC GX3 features 2 physical speaker outputs designed for optimal operation at 8 ohms. The unit is able to operate safely with a 4 ohm load as well which will give you a higher wattage output per channel. You are able to connect multiple speakers to each channel in parallel, but should be careful not to exceed the wattage and impedance ratings listed by the manufacturer.

[80.1 lb] I've used the older model of this for about 12 years now for a theater that specializes in plays. They've lasted forever and I was replacing an older crown model that had an amp channel go out. This model has great gain with low noise coming off of our Ls9. Highly recommend it. 5

[2] We are using this 2-channel amplifier to power 4 subwoofers wired in parallel, as the specs explicitly show support for our expected low-impedance setup and expected wattage. Note the unit is 3 RUs tall, make sure there is enough space in the rack if replacing an expired amplifier. The standard NEMA 5-15P (15 amp power plug) removable IEC included allowed for easy integration within our existing rack PDU setup. The simple, tried-and-true analog input wiring and dip switches were easy to integrate with our DSP, set preferred mode and filters. The physical power switch on the front is nice for our use case. The front dial appears to operate by digitally switching between gain steps, rather than a smooth analog potentiometer with physical start and stop limits. Not an issue for us but worth noting. We were impressed with the power output this amp is capable of, allowing us to drive the connected subwoofers at higher power levels than the previous amp could achieve given our low-impedance setup. For the sake of intelligibility, we dialed everything back enough to make our desired sub shake felt-not-heard but balanced with the meeting space's intended audio sources. 5

[80.1 lb] My previous amp ran the fans from front to rear, but I prefer the way this amp blows from rear (inside the rack) to front. The RMX 850a has standard balanced input connectors, and multiple output connectors including advanced SpeakON. It's easy to configure for bridging, limiting, filtering, or other standard options. 5

[< 0.02% (SMPTE)] Changing from a QSC GX5; a reliable amp but heavy with the transformer for clean power. This amp is easy to match with my QSC E series speakers used as monitors or on stands. The speakers sound so much better with the additional power and the DSP specific settings are just amazing! Other DSP settings makes me want to go with unpowered subs and get another GXD8, 1 for each stereo side. 5
