The lightweight, compact iOptron HAZ31 Alt-Az Mount 31 lb Payloadfrom iOptron HAZ31 Alt-Az Mount 31 lb Payloadhas a payload capability of 31 lb, without needing a cumbersome counterweight or shaft. HAZ mounts will support a large variety of instruments that require flexibility for outreach programs and satellite tracking. The multi-position saddle, which can be placed on top or to the side, uniquely sets up the HAZ31 to accommodate binoculars. Just turn the mount on, and it will calibrate itself and GoTo the first target utilizing iOptron's time-tested "Level and Go" technology.

Utilizing strain wave gear technology for both RA and DEC movement, the HAZ31 delivers high weight-to-payload efficiency. Its black anodized all-metal CNC-machined body is not only appealing to the eye, but it's also a rugged platform that will perform at the highest level for many years to come. Unique features such as an electronic friction break and power-down memory allow the mount to safely stop and resume a GoTo slew or continue tracking even after an abrupt power loss (No need to realign and start from the beginning).

A HAZ31 mount can be controlled by a computer, either via ASCOM/Commander for a Windows PC or a third-party INDI driver for macOS software; a smartphone/tablet via iOptron Commander Lite or an App like SkySafari; or a Raspberry Pi device via INDI driver.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I put a 20kg telescope on it without any problems ?

A: The Sky-Watcher AZ-EQ6 Alt-Az / Equatorial GoTo Mount with Tripod BH #SKAZEQ6 • MFR #S30330 will support a 20kg telescope. Be aware you will be at the maximum weight limit.

Q: 2. What is the inside distance between yoke arms? I would be mounting an AT-72edii. Thanks!

A: Altazimuth head with handle. Cradle will hold TeleVue scopes up to the TV-85. Not for TV-101, Renaissance, or TV-102. Friction locks in altitude and azimuth allow user to adjust the mount drag for smoothest operation and for balancing the scope. Pre-drilled to accept optional TeleVue Sky Tour computer encoders. 1/4"-20 thread and 3/8" thread holes allow it to mount on any photo tripod legs (not recommended for mounting onto a photo tripod's pan head). The Tele-Pod can also be used with other brands of small refractors. However, the internal width between the vertical sides of the Tele-Pod yoke measures only 5.25", so the maximum width of the mounting rings of another brand of telescope must be smaller than this measurement. In addition, the buyer should keep in mind that the fore-and-aft mounting platform dimension of the yoke is limited and would require a user-supplied adapter plate to install dual mounting rings on the single 1/4"-20 hole available in the Tele-Pod yoke.

Q: 3. Is the Tele Vue TEC-1018 Eyepiece Caddy compatible with this mount?

A: Yes it is compatible.

Q: 4. Is there any adapter to use this on an iOptron Tri-Pier?

A: The Sky-Watcher Wave 150i GoTo Strain Wave Mount cannot be used on an iOptron Tri-Pier.

Q: 5. Does this mount have slow motion controls?

A: The Tele Vue Encoder-Equipped Gibraltar HD4 Alt-Az Mount BH #TEG4E6023 • MFR #G4E-6023 has no slow-motion control.

Q: 6. Hi, what is the difference between the AZEQ6 and the EQM 35? The prices differ greatly!

A: The Sky-Watcher EQM-35 EQ GoTo Mount BH #SKS30500 • MFR #S30500 has a load capacity of 22lbs $725.00. The Sky-Watcher AZ-EQ6 Alt-Az / Equatorial GoTo Mount with Tripod BH #SKAZEQ6 • MFR #S30330 has a load capacity of 44 lbs. $2099.00

Q: 7. If Payload Capacity is 44 lb / 19.96 kg (without Counterweight) does that mean I can add to payload capacity by installing the counterweight?

A: So the Counterweight is meant for balancing, so it can move smoothly and track accurately without unwanted vibration or putting additional wear and tear on the motors. It does not add on extra Payload for more weight to the Mount/Tripod.

Q: 8. Is this the same as the AZ-EQ6 GT Pro for sale on First Light Optics? Basically what I'm asking is this the newest version that has the upgraded motor controller and the USB port added? I don't see USB mentioned anywhere in your description even though it should be included as a new feature for the newest Alt AZ-EQ6 model.

A: For an improved and simplified connection, the AZ-EQ6 features a built-in USB-B port on its side panel. This allows for easy connection to a PC computer and control through the Sky-Watcher SynScan Pro application available for PC.

Q: 9. Can I put a 20kg telescope on it without any problems 12" Truss Tube Ritchey-Chretien Astrograph ?

A: The Sky-Watcher AZ-EQ6 Alt-Az / Equatorial GoTo Mount with Tripod BH #SKAZEQ6 • MFR #S30330 will properly support a 20kg telescope.

Q: 10. How does it differentiate between alt-az tracking and equatorial tracking modes? Is there a switch? Are red knobs for manual

A: This base is needed to use the Skyhunter in EQ mode: https://bhpho.to/47Nf3nA . The modes will be displayed on your smart phone or the optional hand controller.

[Yes] Been waiting for this mount for about 6 months. I signed up for the B&H availability update messages every 2 weeks. Been getting the same unavailable message for months. Then late last week, got the email from B&H that the mount came in. I quickly signed on and placed my order. In the meantime, I checked a few other astronomy related sites and did not see that any had this mount in stock. Four days later, it arrives as scheduled. All looks good! Please put me down as another highly satisfied customer.....many thanks and great job!

[Yes] This tripod and mount combo works very well. I'm super happy with the performance and ease of use. Simple to set up, balance, and align. With minimal effort, the auto-align feature, complemented by a one or two-star alignment, produce on-target dead-center slews almost every single time. On-board battery seems to work for many hours and simplifies set up even more. Although I give it five stars, there are a couple of things that could be better: 1) The tripod and pier are rock solid, but fit and finish could be a little better. Nothing that prevents great results, but don't expect the best precision on the manufactured parts. 2) The built in level on the mount isn't fitted precisely, so you really have to use another level to get the most accurate leveling and learn what the mount's level looks like when the mount is truly level. Then you can get leveling results every time using the on-board level. 3) The leveling feet setup between the pier and AZ Mount Pro works, but the locking screw that is required to hold the mount onto the pier isn't elegant -- it's a smaller diameter screw sticking through the actual hold-down screw that acts as a lever to tighten and loosen the hold-down screw. Seems like a bit of a kludge on another-wise solidly built unit.

[Yes] This is a dream mount! After lugging heavy mounts such as the Celestron CGEM with heavy metal tripods and hefty counterweights for many years, this lightweight mount with its auto-aligning feature is a welcome change for aging hobby astrophotographers like me. The mount is light and compact and is controlled through its hand controller eliminating the risk of broken WiFi connections or privacy issues as with AM5 mount. Best way to understand this mount is to use it during daytime for viewing the Sun followed by night time use. It is simply a joy to use!

[Alt-Azimuth] My other charger wasn't available, having left it overseas.
Chargers can be hit or miss in terms of quality so I bought the official one.
No problems, charges up fast.

[Yes] This product arrived well packaged and was easy to set up without instructions. The only issue was with one of the tripod locking clamps. It required brute strength to lock into place and would still slide the tripod leg. Customer Service was courteous, friendly and arranged for an exchange. Looking forward to using this sturdy well secured support with my iOptron AZ instrument.
