The Voigtlander Nokton 42.5mm f/0.95 Lensis a bright, fast portrait-length lens that provides a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 85mm when used on Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. This manual focus, manual exposure prime lens utilizes a Selective Aperture Control System, which renders the aperture control ring as stepless and de-clicked for silent and smooth performance. This is ideally-suited to video applications or for greater control over aperture selection while shooting.

The optical construction integrates one Super High Refractive element as well as one aspherical element to minimize chromatic aberrations and produce imagery with notable clarity and sharpness. Ten aperture blades form a nearly circular diaphragm in order to produce an aesthetic bokeh that is noticeable when using shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques and a minimum focusing distance of 9.1" supports working with close-up subject matter.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. This is a very expensive lens comparing to my Olympus Pen Lite E-PL6. Will it be an overkilled combo?

A: I don't think it is necessarily overkill. However, as a manual-only focus lens, if you don't have an Olympus electronic View Finder accessory, you will have some trouble focusing using only the rear panel.

Q: 2. Is the focus ring smoooth at all distances? Or is there a tightness when focusing from 10 to a foot distance?

A: On mine, the focus ring is pretty even throughout its travel. I just tested it to be sure, and I would say that there is maybe 10-20% greater resistance, gradually as you approach the minimum distance, but nothing I would characterize as tightness , just a normal variation. I honestly wouldn't have noticed if I didn't test it in response to your question. I hope that helps.

Q: 3. can it be mount on Sony 7aS ?

A: Unfortunately, no, the Voigtlander Nokton 42.5mm f/0.95 Micro Four Thirds Lens is not compable for use with the Sony Alpha A7s Mirrorless Digital Camera.

Q: 4. What is the approximate physical length of this lens WITH the lens hood on?

A: 122mm with one filter (the hood 'mount' is removable, so you can still use filters and then the hood)

Q: 5. In daily use, how does this compare to the Panasonic Lumix G 42.5 mm f/1.7 OIS?

A: Main difference is the aperture of the Voigtlander is wider and offers better quality in low light and shallower depth of field. On the other hand it is manual focus only. The Panasonic lens offers autofocus.

Q: 6. For those who are using this lens, how easy is the manual focusing, especially when shooting wide open with narrow depth of field? Thanks.

A: At F/0.95 you will need to be very precise to get the proper focus. You will need to take advantage of whatever focus assisting tools are available to you on your camera, such as focus peaking and magnification of the image.

Q: 7. What diameter gear ring does this lens need to be used with a smallrig F40 manual follow focus?

A: The Simmod SIMple Fit Follow Focus Gear (Small, 10mm), BH #SISF10SM, or the Tilta Seamless Focus Gear Ring (62.5 to 64.5mm), BH #TITAFGR6264, would be good gear rings to consider when looking for a gear ring to pair with the Voigtlander Nokton 42.5mm f/0.95 Micro Four Thirds Lens.

Q: 8. I can use this lens in Fuji x mount with the help of an adapter ?or it will be cropped??

A: Unfortunately, this lens cannot be adapted to a Fuji X series camera.

Q: 9. On a GH4 is the apeture controled manually too? or can the camera move it (like with the finger dials)?

A: This lens is fully manual. It doesn't interface with the electronics at all. It's a phenomenal lens and worth the effort to manually adjust the exposure ring.

Q: 10. Does this lense work (without any adaptor) on an Olympus OM-D E-M1?

A: yes, it does. that's why it is micro four thirds lens. you attach it directly to the micro four thirds body, without any adapter. keep in mind that it is manual focus all the time.

[Manual Focus] This lens is just wide enough before it gets that fisheye bend. It's gorgeous in both imagery and craftsmanship, the same as the rest of the lens line. My biggest surprise was the incredible depth of field when the lens is wide open. Still sharp enough to use, especially, at like 1.2. For the work that I do, this lens is a god send, and the missing piece to my micro 4/3 lineup. It's also the perfect mate for the GH4 and my Helix Jr.

[f/0.95] A friend of mine shots these lens and I love his images, so I broke down and got this one for my Olympus OMD Em1 MKii. Must say that in Hi Res mode, the images are super sharp and I also am taken by the color rendition. Great lens but heavy and a tad bulky. Built to last.

[Manual Focus] It's the best wide lens for my GH4 plus its low-light feature. Although the image quality is not sharp when maximizing to F/0.95, it is still acceptable for video quality. Many reviews complain its heavy weight, but I am ok because Canon L series lens is heavier. Also I know people think M43 is hard for bokeh effet, but not with this lens. When switching to F0.95, the depth of field would look like F2.0, compared to full-frame camera. So you get F2.0 DoF feeling and get the real F0.95 light in :D The only thing I don't like is its rear lens cap. It is very loose and you can't tighten it for some reason. Remember to buy one instead.

[10] I wanted a .95 lens to use at low light events with my EM1X that had a longer reach than my LUMIX 42.5 1.2. The colors and renderings at any f stop are remarkable. Shooting at .95 is difficult with anything that moves, but if there is a pause in the movement and you use this lens for capturing candids or still life's in a room, you will be rewarded with some jaw dropping results from .95. It's is a heavy well built metal lens. It does pair very well with a larger m4/3 body like the EM1X or G9. I really like this lens and look for excuses to use it when I'm not utilizing at event shoots. It is an all manual lens, and if you don't like shooting manually, then this lens is not for you. The sale price and my desire for a longer wider aperture prompted me to try this lens out.

[f/0.95] Okay, so I looked at this lens for a very long time before making the purchase... And am I ever glad that I did!!! First off, the build!!! This thing is completely metal and glass!!! Heavy!!! Long focus throw!!! Excellent for video work!!! The depth of field is thin, wide open, but if you nail focus the subject isolation (Background separation) IS JUST AS YOU SEE IT IN THE MOVIES!!!
This lens is not for every shot or every situation. I have a GH5 and this lens is fantastic for dialog or B-roll, even for an A-camera!!!
Now wide open (0.95) there is chromatic aberration depending on the lighting, but you can work around this with proper setup!!! Yet, all in all, this lens produces a really nice image!!! You shouldn't have any problems in low light or with shallow depth of field!!!

[30.5°] Yes, it is large and heavy, but worth it. I have two other Voigtlander lenses for my Olympus Pen F bodies (17.5mm and 42.5mm). I am impressed with the mechanical quality and optical performance.

Wide open, it does have some visible chromatic aberration, but it goes away when stopped down a bit. Color saturation is really nice. An extra feature is that it focuses down to 1/4 life-size. Not quite Macro, but very useful.

I highly recommend the Voigtlander lenses. The build quality is high and the image quality is remarkable for being f0.95 lenses.

And, by using focus peaking, I don't miss auto-focus. In fact, the peaking shows what is and is not focused.

[58 mm (Front)] It's just great, character, bookeh, sharpness.

Handling alone is a reason to get it, and you just WANT to take it and use it, photography is not just about taking pictures.

It's a prolonging pleasure to use this lens and to look at its results. I'm using it nearly all time wide open, the character - due to razor thin focus length is fantastic. If I had to choose it between the 42.5mm I would keep the 60mm.

Did I mention it also looks stunning? - even better than on pictures.

Once you have it in hands you will not let it go - lens like this is a reason to stick with mft.

[Manual Focus] Amazing lenses. I love the wide and very soft distortion she gives when close to the object.
If you want some cinema look in your GH5, go for that lens kit.

[58 mm (Front)] This lens is the widest of them I own. It's sharp, well built and the bokeh is amazing. I LOVE these lenses and they serve as my go to with the GH4 and GH5. No speed booster needed.

[Manual Focus] If you are the type of photographer who likes to mount old 35mm film lenses to your digital camera to obtain a unique look, this lens is for you. The Voiglander 60mm is a modern take on that approach. Built indestructible, the images are clean (free of defect) with some softness providing you with that uniqueness you don't achieve with razor sharp lens such as the OMD 45mm F/1.2 Pro. It's close focusing radius also gives it a 'macro like' performance for close ups. If I want a unique photograph that takes outstanding portraits, this is my go-to lens.
