The silver Pentax DA 21mm f/3.2 AL Limited Lens - Silverfrom Pentax DA 21mm f/3.2 AL Limited Lens - Silveris a compact pancake-style prime wide-angle lens providing a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 31.5mm. The broad 68° angle of view is well-suited to all-around shooting for both interior and exterior locations. A high-grade multi-layer HD coating has been applied to lens elements to help minimize flare and ghosting for enhanced contrast, clarity, and color fidelity and a seven-blade diaphragm contributes to an aesthetic out-of-focus quality to benefit shallow depth of field imagery. Additionally, an SP Protect coating has also been applied to the front lens element to effectively protect it from dirt, oil, and finger prints.

The compact form-factor of this lens integrates Pentax's Quick-Shift Focus System, which allows manual focus control over the lens at any time, even in AF mode, for precise handling over the focal plane.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this lens work on an older Pentax film body such as a P3 or an MZ-50? I know the fstop needs to be set by the camera, and that the focal length will be, I presume, 35mm, I'm just concerned about the mount and connection with the contact info.

A: It will definitely heavy heavy vignetting. The lens is designed to cover the 18-24mm aps-c sensor size not the 24-36mm full frame of 35mm film. The corners of the images will be very dark.

Q: 2. Is this wide angle lens

A: No, this lens will equate to approximately a 50mm lens, which is considered normal.

Q: 3. Is this lens water-resistant?

A: No, it isn't.Pentax designates weather-resistant lenses with the letters WR, which are not on this lens..There is no gasket on the mount, for instance. The D-FA 100 mm macro lens, and the 20-40 Limited lens are WR, as are versions of the kit zooms and the 55-300.Their top level of weather-proofing (on the star lenses) is designated AW, for all-weather.

Q: 4. Will this lens work with my Pentax K-S2 camera?

A: Yes it works!!!!!!!!!

Q: 5. pentax 15mm with pentax k70 ?

A: Yes the Pentax HD Pentax DA 15mm f/4 ED AL Limited Lens is compatible with the Pentax K70 camera.

Q: 6. Does this lens work with a Novoflex Pentax K to Sony E body adapter? Does it have the aperture mecanism of other Pentax K ?

A: The Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA 21mm f/2.4ED Limited DC WR Lens can be used on a Sony E-mount camera with the Novoflex Adapter for Pentax K Lens to Sony NEX Camera, BH #NOAPKSNEX. However, the lens will not autofocus, and the aperture has to be set with the aperture ring on the adapter. The Monster Adapter LA-KE1 Magic Ring Pentax K Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Adapter, BH #MOPKSEA, supports autofocus and camera-to-lens communication.

Q: 7. Country of Origin?

A: The country of origin for the Pentax HD Pentax DA 21mm f/3.2 AL Limited Lens (Black) B&H # PE2132DALB is Vietnam and subject to change.

Q: 8. are the silver lenses made of aluminum?

A: According to the press release that was released on August 27, 2013, the Limited lenses' (such as the Pentax HD Pentax DA 21mm f/3.2 AL Limited Lens (Silver), B&H # PE2132DALS) lens barrel, hood, and cap are all made of a high-grade aluminum material, hand-machined for perfect proportions and beautiful texture. All of the lenses come in a silver version in addition to the black version.

Q: 9. Is it for the K1?

A: This is a DA lens...meaning designed for APS-C Sensors. It will work on the K-1 because the K-1 will just use the part of its sensor that is APS-C size. Pentax Full Frame lenses are labeled FA .

Q: 10. Would the DA 21mm be a good lens for my K-50? I need a wide angle lens, since I am starting to shoot some photos for my friends landscaping business.

A: HI Don, I've had this lens a couple years, on my K-7. I travel for work internationaly, and am an amatuer photog. I like landscapes and a wider field of view even in city streets. It's light, guite fast and compact and seems very durable, even in extreme polar regions. I'm very happy with my pics, but there is some distortion say in city skylines and some horizons, if you use the odd looking rectangular sunshade cover made for the lens seems to help with that alot. It is subject to sunflares from sides but I often just block with my hand. I'd say I'm quite happy with it, Its well made, and I take it everywhere, but again I'm not a pro. For photos of residential landscapes it should work well, but it's not inexpensive as you've probably seen, make sure you take it along to scenic places too if you buy it! Hope this was some help, dave

[f/22] Beautiful construction, color rendition, and very impressive resistance to flare.  And like all limited lenses, the small size.

[f/22] I've had this lens for about five weeks and I am very glad that I bought it. Here are a few reasons why I say that: 1) The lens appears to be very well constructed. It has a solid feel to it. 2) I love the color and contrast that I see in photos taken with this lens. I feel that this lens is sharp and that the general image quality is quite high. 3) The lens focuses quickly and accurately. This lens also has what Pentax calls a Quick-shift focus system. This permits you to adjust the focus manually even when your camera is set to auto focus. I have this feature on other lenses that I own and I have found it to be very useful. 4) I like the retractable lens hood. 5) I like the focal length. This compliments the HD Pentax-DA 21mmF3.2 Limited which I recently acquired. I use both of these lenses for general photography and especially for landscape and flower pictures. 6) I appreciate the light weight of this lens. I enjoy not having to carry around a heavy zoom when I'm out for a day of picture taking. 7) Considering the build quality and the high image quality of this lens I feel that its cost is very reasonable. So far the only thing I would count as a negative is that it is an f4 rather than f2.8 lens. This really hasn't been much of an issue though.

[f/3.2] This is a really nice lens and very compact. We bought the Sensei pinch cap to go with it, which is easier to use than the screw-on cap that comes with it. Can't wait to take it to Yosemite for some wide-angle shots!

[Pentax K] I own the older version and it was a huge surprise how good the lens is for f/4. Colours are outstanding and the focal, length is percent for APS-C sensors. The lens is highly compact, light and portable, but with quick shift focus and rugged to boot. Focus is lightning fast. When I check my stats I find this lens is my most used of all the DA series, which surprised me.

[Autofocus] As a prime lens, the quality of the images is fantastic. I like the combination of this lens and the Pentax k-70 camera body. I feel like I am stealing something given the price to quality ratio.

[49 mm (Front)] One of the best lenses I've ever had. Colors are crisp and clear. Fast focus too. This is a great lens for landscape photography and I've been very happy with the results.

[f/22] Excellent prime lens for landscape and travel. Picture quality is outstanding. Solid built and light. I have the silver one and it is beautiful. Some users complain about the screw in lens cap.. I bought a SENSEI clip-on lens cap$ to solve the problem. Also some mentioned the fact that it would be difficult to use Cokin/Lee filter systems due to the built in lens hood. I put a Hoya UV filter on it and it protrudes enough to get my COKIN system working. So... GREAT LENS, all positive!

[f/3.2] I am in the midst of changing from zoom lenses to a series of primes. The primes give better image quality and as importantly they make me consider the shot before I click the shutter. I had the Pentax 12-24 and while a great lens it is also huge, and made me a lazy photographer. I purchased this DA 15 (and the DA 21); I believe my photographs are superior with the primes. The 15mm HD has different (and most would consider inferior) starbursts to the previous SMC model but the current 15 handles flare much better. The 15mm is a bit too wide for a walk around lens but, then again, wearing it on my K-3 for a day challenges me to see differently, and that's not a bad thing. All in all, this is a great lens, and I'm beginning to think for the active amateur, primes are a great choice.
