  • Power must be provided by the 8-Series—A20-Nexus power inputs (TA4 and PoE+) are disabled.
  • The A20-Nexus and its NexLinked transmitters are controlled from the A20-Nexus front panel or its web app. The 8-Series user interface is not used for control.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this compatible with the 7 series Sound Devices recorders?

A: Yes, it is. I use it with my SD552, and I've seen reviews from folks who use it with their SD663 and their SD788T. Bill

Q: 2. Is this battery sled made of metal? From the reviews of the earlier, double L battery mount from Sound Devices, I’d be hesitant to shell out almost three times more money for this one if it is still made of plastic.

A: Thank you for asking. This device is made of plastic, but its form factor is considerably different than that of the MX-LMOUNT.

Q: 3. I believe that, in US, you can either record on the unit OR use as a transmitter, but not both at same time. Is that right? If so, why?

A: Simultaneous Record and Transmit mode is not available on A20-Mini units sold or operated in the United States of America. A different manufacturer owns the patent to the technology to do both at the same time.

Q: 4. Will this work with the Sound Devices MM-1?

A: YES

Q: 5. Would this cable work to jam sync TC between a MixPre10-II and a MixPre6-II?

A: Neither the MixPre6-II nor the MixPre10-II support timecode over USB-C, so the Sound Devices BNC to USB-C Timecode Cable for A20-Mini would not be appropriate for connecting the two devices.

Q: 6. Why is this product, which only holds one NPF battery, far more expensive than the one that holds two? Are there more features?

A: The Sound Devices MX-LM1 L-Mount Battery Sled holds one NP-F battery parallel to the chassis, and the Sound Devices MX-LMOUNT Battery Sled holds two NP-F batteries perpendicular to the chassis. There are differences in construction between the two models, but you will need to contact Sound Devices regarding the difference in the price between the two models.

Q: 7. Does this item come with a manufacturer's ( Sound Devices) warranty?

A: Yes, the Sound Devices A20-RX comes with a limited 1-year manufacturer's warranty with the option of an additional 1-year extension upon product registration.

Q: 8. What is the difference between this one and the cheaper $65 option?

A: Hi Jared. The MX-LMOUNT holds 2 NPF batteries, and the MX-LM1 only holds 1 NPF. Battery orientation is parallel to the chassis for the MX-LM1, but perpendicular for the MX-LMOUNT.

Q: 9. how can you attach the Sennheiser MKE2 lav?

A: You can use the Sennheiser MKE 2 Gold Series Subminiature Omnidirectional Lavalier Microphone with 3-Pin LEMO Connector - Black (B&H # SEMKE24CG) with the Sound Devices A20-Mini Digital Wireless Bodypack Transmitter and Recorder. The mic input on the A20-Mini uses a 3-pin LEMO connector.

Q: 10. So if Zaxcom has a patent on this how are companies like Rode or DJI allowed to put to market a a wireless system (granted prosumer level) but can record internally as well as send signal back to camera at the same time?

A: Thanks for response. Yes I am aware of that but it still does not answer how Rode and DJi who sell in US. How are they able to sidestep the us patent

[0.975 lb] There are a few solid bag options out there for the 664, but this one is pretty spectacular. Lots of clever cable routing, modular enough for different load-outs. Fully loaded with; central power, wireless boom, 5 lavs, camera hops & separate IFBs for video village and boom, the only cable that ever leaves the bag is my headphone lead. No more rats nest of cables every time I move one thing around in a rush. I've taken to keeping it fully loaded in a pelican case, when I arrive on set, I'm ready to go. No more waiting on sound... Mine's in its 4th year of service and still going strong. Pairs nicely with the Versa-Flex HS1N harness for those longer days on the run, or set it up sideways on a few pelican cases and kick back for talking head interviews. This thing feels like a sound cart with a shoulder strap.

[0.975 lb] I ran into this situation where I didn't bring my battery bag and I was using my audio batteries to power a red and it sucked those things like juice boxes - and I was left with whatever was left to record - Now I have power adapters for all my gear.

[0.975 lb] The Sound Devices power supply is compatible with any 12 VDC device using a 4-pin, Hirose connector. I use them with my Sound Devices 7xx recorders, but also with the Zoom F8 Field Recorder. It is much more reliable to use a latching connector than a tubular DC connector. Furthermore the cables and construction of the SD power supply are much more robust and manageable for use under field conditions.

[Black] I got this for my MixPre-6ii and haven't had a single issue with it. My large L Batteries (Powerextra NP-F970) haven't been stripped, and I can easily remove the entire plate off of my MixPre-6ii.

From what I've been hearing, others have dealt with Sound Devices battery compartments getting stuck onto the housing, as well as batteries being damaged from the thick battery plugs. So far I have encountered none of those issues.

[0.975 lb] Brings power to my mix-pre d! Sometimes it's great not to have to change batteries, for instance when I use it for long VO sessions.

[Black] Pricey, but works perfectly on my Mixpre 6ii with Sony L battery. Fits also well into the audio bag by Porta Brace (which has been a pain to use when trying to power the Mixpre via USB with external battery pack).

[Black] The adapter fits perfectly on my MixPre 6. Feels solid and it's easy to remove. I love the low-profile look and functionality. But, a tear rolled down my face when I paid 200$ for this.

[Black] It is small and compact. I picked up a cable that is D-Tap to HIrose. I reached out to the Sound Devices about the wiring of this to make sure I could check if cables would work. Pins 1 and 2 are wired together and are positive, pins 3 and 4 are wired together and are the negative. This way you can check with cable manufactures to make sure it is wired correctly for your unit.

[0.975 lb] In a bag:
Support the recorder with a plug in device such as a battery sled or with a trimmed small foam pillow so that pressure is removed from the connector cable.
The 110AC-12vDC adapter made by Jet has a pin-out diagram of the Hirose connector printed on the bottom - nice touch.
Not tested under full load with 8 powered XLR mics input to the MixPre -10T for extended recording.
