[0.09 lb] After reading reviews on 3rd party lens hoods, I decided to pay a bit more and get the genuine Canon. I'm glad I did - it fits well, is easy to put on and remove and stores in reverse right on the camera. I can still put the lens cover on if I wish with the hood installed in either direction. I ordered a third party lens hood for my 18-55mm and it fits, but is a little more difficult to put on and take off than the Canon hood for the Canon 75-300mm lens. The Canon lens hood is light weight, yet feels durable. 5

[Plastic] These should come with the lenses in my opinion. The only bad thing I can say is that the lens cap is hard to remove while the hood is installed. However this is really more of a problem with Canon's lens caps than the hood. 5

[Plastic] I bought this to prevent lens flare from light striking the front of my lens at parallel to near parallel angles. It cuts down on the incidental light I do not want to hit the lens and to affect my shots. And it does all that as well as add lens protection. It fits well as one would expect from a Canon product. 5
