The rear holes you mention were for an optional factory installed rear peep sight. Alternatively, you can use the side mounted base (Weaver #2), reportedly without needing to visit the gunsmith, though I can't confirm that.

A: Yes. It fits mine just fine and doesn't block the hammer or the action. Don't forget to get some thread locker for it too.

[Aluminum] Perfect fit on my Savage Axis.The factory bases sometimes don't go close enough together to accommodate some scopes with shorter tubes this will fix the problem. 5

[Aluminum] Great price for the product. Delivery was very slow getting it shipped. But the website did indicate that it would not ship right away. So in all honesty I can't complain I knew it might take some time because of what I read on the site. This product was about half the price here than other places I had checked. It mounted great and rifle that I put it on is shooting right on now with the scope that I could not install with the factory long action mounts. 5

[Aluminum] The Savage Axis scope base mount came and was fine in reception with no damage. I mounted to a .308 platform with no hitches. The screws that came in the package material are flathead/ straight edge screws from Weaver. I utilized the Allen screws from the former two individual mounts to mount the new base and they mated perfectly to complete the scope mount. Base performed well in zeroing the package. Delivery was quick and unimpeded. Thank you for your services. This was my first time utilizing your website. Great job. 5
