Styled in natural bamboo veneer, the LS1a from Grimm Audio is an active all-in-one stereo speaker system designed to combine the best aspects of a high-fidelity system with the accuracy of top-tier studio monitors for demanding musicians, engineers, producers, and audiophiles. Part of the LS1 family, the LS1a is the most moderately priced option; it does not included the LS1USB interface and scales back on a few of the most advanced features in favor of a non-magnesium woofer, a lighter foot plate, and a lacquered cabinet. It is also constructed without some of the labor intensive modifications and individual acoustic calibrations made on the LS1v2 and LS1be models.

The speaker incorporates top-quality DSP, converters, and amplifiers to completely control all the critical aspects of audio reproduction and ensure pure, ultra-accurate sound.

The LS1a possesses all these essential qualities and therefore performs at a true reference level in all key areas for artists and music lovers alike. The speaker retains the low distortion and extremely linear amplitude and phase response the LS1 series is renowned for (achieved through Computer Aided Calibration during production). In addition, the form factor makes positioning close to a wall possible without wall-reflection interference. The speaker features a DSP-controlled frequency curve and is unidirectional down to 250 Hz with a well-behaved off-axis response.

The flat, wide cabinet design lowers the baffle step frequency, allowing sound below the 250 Hz range to be radiated in all directions equally, while higher frequencies, where phase problems are more perceptible, are more forward focused. The rounded legs also help to reduce the deterioration of the stereo image, while the shallow cabinet moves the resonance along the depth axis inside the box, significantly above the crossover frequency of the 8" low-frequency driver, helping to avoid boxiness. The 1" Seas tweeter’s exceptionally low distortion in the midrange allows a fairly low crossover frequency that benefits vertical dispersion. Its small constant-directivity horn ensures an even spread of high-frequency sound.

Digital input signals are re-clocked by a state-of-the-art ASRC circuit, which is based on the same oscillator as the legendary Grimm CC1 clock. Analog inputs are first converted to digital with a high-performance A/D converter. The signal then enters the DSP, which has a datapath of 48-bit wide with a 76-bit accumulator. Each driver then has its own high-quality D/A converter. The output of the D/A converters is directly fed into 120W Hypex Ncore power amplifiers. The optional LS1s subs have an additional 400W amp each. Hypex Ncore power amplifiers have extremely low harmonic distortion and are the perfect choice for the LS1a due to their linearity and excellent transient response. Throughout the whole circuit, careful attention has been paid to component selection like capacitors and resistors. Critical parts, such as power supply regulators, are of Grimm's own discrete design.

The LS1a has versatile connections for analog and three digital AES/EBU sources. With the optional USB audio interface, any computer can become your audio source. The LS1r controller or an MU1 music player (both available separately) allow for convenient control of volume and source selection.

An LS1a covers the full-frequency range as an elegant two-way system. By adding an LS1s or even an SB1 subwoofer set, the LS1a becomes a very-low distortion, three-way loudspeaker that can handle all music styles in any size room.

These are useful to confirm that the signal coming into the Beachtek is adequate and not clipping before sending down the chain to the next stage in the camera for further monitoring and adjustment if needed.

A: You can only use a maximum of two microphones, one connected to the left channel and the other connected to the right channel, with the Beachtek DXA-MAX 2-Channel Active Audio Adapter for DSLR. However, if you are using the stereo input, we suggest not connecting any other microphones as it would create phase and/or level issues.

[Active 2-Way] Side by side comparison to ADAM speakers revealed these are the best speakers on the market. They have very clear and big bass. And they have very clear mids and highs. If clarity and low end boom and bass clarity is your thing, then these speakers are the best you will find in the music store. They are better than ADAM Audio speakers in a side by side comparison the rep took me thru, it was close with ADAM being second, but after listening to the EVE SC208s, the ADAMS started to sound just a little more muffled than when I first heard them before hearing the EVE SC208s, and EVE SC208 gave off a big clear, defined, tight bass that was better than ADAM's. Surprisingly the budget Mackie MR8 MK3 kinda came in close third place in all the test. Mackie has bass too and pretty clear mids in the MK3 series only, but EVE's are the best of all on the shelf music store monitors. They are the most expensive tho, so you know why, but you get what you pay for. If you want the monitor with the biggest baddest clearest bass and mids and highs that are not fatiguing at long periods of time, then you will have to pay the cost to be the boss with these.

[Stereo Pair] I've used yamahas, rokits, mackies and a few other brands and they were ok. These however really sound fantastic. They are heavy and made of good quality materials. I wish they had a protective shield of some kind to protect from kids poking their fingers in there. Low end sounds nice and tight - I was not expecting that from 5 speakers! Higher and mid frequencies sound really crisp and clean. Really happy with the purchase so far!

[16 W (Idle)] These monitor speakers, although pricy, are very well suited to mixing and editing in protools for a studio either at home or in a formal studio setting. They are transparent with a very flat sound that does not emphasize any particular aspect of the frequency spectrum. Flat sound as used here is a good thing. The bass is surprisingly strong in my editing room which only about 8' x 10'. I did add a subwoofer for frequencies below 50Hz. The highs are exceptionally clear and the midrange very smooth. These speakers are very easy on the ears even after several hours editing. I highly recommend them. I use them mainly to edit recording of live theatrical musical performances.

[16 W (Idle)] The sound is flat (that's a good thing) and precise. The bass response is respectable, not at all boomy or bloomy and the treble is very well-behaved.

[Active 2-Way] An excellent option for studio monitors at this price point and a great alternative to the KRK yellow cones. The Adams sound like they are optimized for creating electronic music: excellent bass response and they sound great at all volumes.

[Stereo Pair] I moved my studio monitors, Adam ANF10s, to my listening room. Therefore, I needed to replace them in my studio. I auditioned several different monitors. KRK, Yamaha, etc. Before purchasing, I listened to the Adam T5V. These monitors had the familiar Adam sound that I was used to. Their clarity was second to none and put the other monitors I auditioned in the back seat.
I cannot recommend the Adam T5V monitors enough. Definitely a great monitor choice.

[Active 2-Way] Exceeded my expectation as a powered speaker... bought it to use as a monitor speaker and it sounds fantastic, even at higher volume, and could easily fill a room.

[105 dB] I own one SC-204 that I use as my keyboard monitor. Two SC-205's and TS-108 sub. I use the 205's and sub to gig small home venues. These speakers are great. Flat sound to me and they work. Great sound for mid to upper-mid priced speakers I would buy again and recommend to all.
