Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this mic record to three tracks; the mid to one, and the stereo side to two? If not, how would one go about mixing dialogue with ambient sound in post?

A: It is only 2 tracks. The mono mic will pick up the dialog as any shotgun would straight ahead. Then the desired amount of side can be mixed in accordingly.

Q: 2. Does this work with the H8?

A: Yes, this will work with the H8.

Q: 3. Is the SSH-6 compatible with the Zoom F1? I have seen both yes and no. If so, does the F1 give customization options to change amount of ambient input like the H6?

A: yes just tried the F1 and SSH-6 combo and this is possible. By cycling through the REC LEVEL button you control the side mic level. Options are StGUN OFF, StGUN 30, StGUN 60, StGUN 90, StGUN 120, StGUN 150

Q: 4. Can this remote be used for the Zoom H6?

A: The correct remote to be used with the Zoom H6 is the Auray RC-ZH6. The RC-ZH5 is designed for the H5.

Q: 5. if I place this device 18 away from my mouth, what is the gain level to reach -12db, and at what gain level before I can hear self-noise?

A: I don't know but this mic is the best mic I have used on this recorder!!

Q: 6. What kind of distance will this work with, roughly?

A: There is no specification for the operating distance. Variables like ambient noise, sound level of the subject, indoors or outdoors, size and composition of the inside space and flooring, wall and ceiling are all factors to consider. In general - get your mics as close to the source as possible.

Q: 7. I have the zoom h6, and my question is which h6 accessory microphones are best for for recording:-acoustic classical nylon string guitar in a studio.-nature and animal sounds/sampling.-live music performance as a spectator in the audience... outdoor or indoor. Also, I get confused on the purpose of the ssh-6 vs sgh-6.

A: I got an SS6-6 (to attach to Q8 on head of guitar. Two women have walked up to tell me how cooland high-tech it looks:)I've ended up using it more to capture live eventsrather than aimed at myself/guitar (which really requiressome other mics mixed in for good studio sound.THE BENEFIT of an SSH-6 (I think) is that live soundis a mix of direct, reflective AND audience sounds, and it tends to capture that well. (If I was doing interviewsI'd want an SGH-6, but I'm basing that on quick reading)FOR CLASSIC GUITAR I have no insights, AND all I've written here is based on a little experience with the SSH-6 on a Q8... and my surprise at it's utility in capturing a live event sound that isn't the usual mushy distortion.

Q: 8. is this chair good for larger adult 6'3 240 lbs?

A: The chair offers a weight capacity of 275 lbs and the following dimensions, Chair Height 41 in. (104 cm) upright. Backrest Height27.1 in. (68.8 cm). Seat Height 19 in. (48.3 cm). Seat Width 20.5 in. (52 cm). Seat Depth 22 in. (55.9 cm). Chair Depth 61.25" (155.58 cm) fully reclined. I would suggest to check with measurements of any current chair you may be using and compare specs to see how it will fit for your frame.

Q: 9. Is it possible to record the M and S mics on separate channels for matrixing in post? Can you do this with the Q8? Thanks in advance.

A: There is an option to either enable or disable the mid-side matrix. If you disable it and you record in MOV+WAV format, one of the WAV channels will be the shotgun mic and the other will be the side mic. Please note side is a single source in a figure-8 pattern, not two different sources (left and right side). If you are going to do post-processing and want to control the ambient sound in the mix, definitely disable the matrix. It is quite straightforward then to mix in the ambient sound in post production. You may have to split the stereo WAV file, depending on what DAW you are using.

Q: 10. The exact diameter and length of the mic isn't listed. I'm trying to find a foam screen for this mic. I'm aware the mic comes with a windscreen. Can anyone help me out?

A: The Zoom SSH-6 has a 1 diameter. It is also about 6 long. The Auray WSF-2216 (B&H # AUWSF2216) is currently the best available option. It is a bit longer than 6 , which means you will probably have to cut it slightly to fit the microphone.

[Mono] ASTRO has great audio quality for my gaming experience. However, I also use it for my online classes which have clear audio for both listening and speaking. People hear me speak clearly without sounding like you’re in a tunnel! The headphones are very comfortable, can wear for an extended time without pinching your ears. I opted for the corded headphones so that I didn’t need to be bothered to charge them. Very pleased with the overall quality and design of the product. Would definitely recommend and purchase again!

[110 dB ] Bought these after my Steel Series Arctis pros broke due to their design flaw. Quality of a product was very important to me and these pass with flying colors.

Pros
-Easy to set up.
-Great sound quality.
-Durable design.
-Great mic quality.
-Customizable

Cons
-Not noise canceling, there is a kit that can be bought separate for 60$ to fix it.
-A little heavy for my taste.
-The mixamp is almost a must to have a good mix of sound and voice.

[78" / 2 m] Bought this headset to replace a Turtle beach elite atlas aero and am very pleased with it. Comfortable for long gaming sessions, has a removable mic and battery life is fantastic. Super easy to set up with no proprietary drivers or software required to use it. I would however suggest installing the NGENUITY software to at least update the firmware.

[1] They are dynamic and responsive, coming to these from Turtle Beaches, it's a night and day difference. The mute hand control is solid, and the ability to change out the mic or headset cord is a fantastic feature. Wish I had made the switch sooner!

[Mono] At a certain point a few years back, I decided to make the switch to Astro A40s. And since then, I’ve never used another headset. Going forward, I will only buy future generations of the A40s. The ratio of comfort to sound quality is second to none in my opinion. Incredibly lightweight. I can wear them for hours with no soreness issues.
