This 6-stop, 55mm Hoya HD MKII IRND Filter 55mm 6-Stopfrom Hoya HD MKII IRND Filter 55mm 6-Stopfeatures HOYA's exclusive ACCU-ND technology, which achieves equal reduction of the light in visible and IR spectrums. This added IR filtration eliminates issues with color shift in any shooting conditions, when compared to conventional ND filters.

Neutral density filters are important for filmmakers and photographers because they allow precise control over the amount of light passing through the lens. For filmmakers, this means shutter speeds that match camera frame-rate while maintaining creative depth-of-field control. Using a longer shutter speed makes it possible to increase motion blur to convey a sense of movement, or to dial in a video camera framerate. Increased density also makes it possible to shoot using wider lens apertures, helping to isolate a subject from the background.

The HD MK II IRND Series neutral density filters feature an anti-reflection multi-coating that reduces reflections caused by scattered light rays, which is an important concern during long exposures. In addition, a waterproof and oil repellent top-coat is applied for easy cleaning and maintenance.

The filter is mounted into a low-profile, lightweight, precision-milled aluminum frame. This frame design takes extra care to prevent light leaks and bleeding around the filter that may occur during long exposures. The slim filter frame can be used on most wide-angle lenses without vignetting. It features front filter threads for attaching additional filters or a protective lens cap.

If a single ND filter does not satisfy the requirement of the situation, or the photographer's vision, a combination of filters can be useful. For example: the combination of the HD MKII IRND 64 plus the HD MKII IRND 1000 will provide 16 stops of light reduction, enough to allow a camera to capture an image of the surface of the sun without overexposure.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this the same filter as the Hoya NXT Circular Polarizer filter, just updated?

A: According to Hoya, the NXTPlus filters are improved over the NXT-series because they "use better glass, an improved multi-coating process, more multi-coated layers for better light transmission, AND add a new 'Waterproof' Top-coat to repel water quickly away from the surface which makes it easier to clean and more fun to use." Q: 2. I know that to use this filter on my Minolta X-700, I'd need to expose an additional 1 to 1 stops for pictures to turn out correctly. I'd like to use this filter for a Pentax K-500 Digital Camera. Would I need to many any stop adjustments like I would my Minolta? Thanks & Happy Thanksgiving!!!

A: Yes, any circular polarizer will add stops to the exposure, it depends on the polarizer as to how many stops are added.

Q: 10. Hi guys, would this adapter work on a Sony FDR AX53 camcorder? It has the 55mm thread but because the AX53 has the floating stabilised lens the glass is quite set into the body and might cause really bad vignetting. Also i don't know how the floating lens of the camera would go moving around behind the wide angle. Thanks

A: Raynox does not recommend this lens for the SONY FDR AX53 camcorder.

[0.115 lb] The ND factor of this filter is perfect to create silky and smooth long term exposures, water and clouds have a lyrical texture to the image.

[Glass] We are using this on the Sony 200-600mm. Image quality is great with no noticeable loss in sharpness, added vignette, or color shift.

[Aluminum] I have used these NiSi filters several times and have always had great results. I recently purchased a Tamron 15-30 f/2.8, and needed to purchase the larger mount...so now I am building up a new collection of NiSi filters in the 150 x 150mm size. This filter will definitely help me produce some great long exposure pictures.

[55 mm] These are a little pricey and there are def cheaper options but you get what you pay for. No color cast with these which means less post processing time. Just an all around great filter and complete filter holder system as well. Do yourself a favor and get their complete system, you won't be disappointed

[Aluminum] The Nisi system is a great system. I only had the chance to try out this 6-stop filter a few times and I can say without a doubt, this is the only filter system I will buy. Absolutely no color cast in my images like my previous filters.

[Glass] Makes for great shots of clouds/water and other moving objects you want blurred during the day. Pretty strong for video work, also the 2mm thickness is generally used for photography. Either way the colours come out quite nicely, we'll see how the coatings last on the filter.
