A: Hi -- It's me again. I've done the experiment. The Savage black muslin backdrop appears white in near infrared light, specifically 800-900nm. In other words, it reflects this light strongly rather than absorbing it. (It of course absorbs visible light which is why it looks black to us.) Anyway, my Savage black backdrop will not work for NIR photography if you expect an absorbing black background. I cannot say what it would look like at much longer wavelength, say beyond 2000nm.

Q: 10. I am new to studio lighting and I am thinking of buying this kit as my first background set. I am also buying from you the lighting kit ( Impact Three Monolight Portrait Boom Kit with Case (120VAC))... and I was wondering if the background kit material, size & color choices are something that would all work with the lights I am buying as a starter purchase. Are marbled colored back drops better/easier to start with..etc? Also, is there anything else I would need to purchase to make this fully functional for me?

A: I have just the black one, with the stand, and I'm loving it I wish I had bought the 3 colours, its VERY easy to put the stand together and adjust it, and the material seems lightweight but durable, I've only had it for a few days so haven't fully put it to the test but as far as I can tell it's going to be perfect; easy to carry with me, set up, and take down, and wash!
