You can use TeraStation Essentials as a private cloud to easily back up data on the network, or integrate cloud services to the NAS storage to establish a hybrid cloud. The NAS server supports popular cloud services that you already use, such as Amazon S3, Dropbox, or Microsoft Azure/OneDrive. You can also keep non-essential workloads and data in the cloud while storing sensitive or essential data in your local TeraStation Essentials NAS for an extra layer of security.

The TeraStation Essentials NAS runs on a closed system, and not even the system administrator has root rights. The closed system on the TeraStation NAS bypasses third party apps and the potential vulnerabilities from them to keep the NAS safe. The TeraStation NAS also provides 256-bit AES encryption for the drives, preventing them from being read on another device if they are removed.

The NAS storage also offers encrypted file transfers so you can access and share data securely, boot authentication that prevents a lost or stolen TeraStation from booting, and a Kensington lock slot for physical security to further protect your data. Buffalo also offers an optional Anti-Virus Protection license (sold separately) as a security option to further protect your data from multiple cyberthreats.

TeraStation Essentials utilizes two-factor authentication (2FA) to add a key layer of login security to ensure that only authorized users can access the NAS. When enabled, users logging in to the TeraStation will also need to enter a verification code along with their username and password.

This extra layer of protection helps secure data on your NAS against hackers and ransomware. 2FA can significantly improve data security for your NAS, as it ensures that your login information cannot be easily compromised by threat actors, especially if you are logging in remotely.

Please note that you will be required to download and install the latest firmware version to access this feature.

Multi-gigabit Ethernet can increase network performance to enable faster data transfer speeds. The native 2.5 GbE port on the TeraStation Essentials NAS is ideal for those who are not ready to commit to the deep end of 10 GbE NAS storage. By using the same Cat5e cables that are already widely installed around the office, you can enjoy notably faster network speeds around the multi-user network environment at much lower costs.

The TeraStation Essentials NAS is a secure, straightforward data storage and backup solution designed to keep it simple yet effective. With pre-tested hard drives included and pre-configured RAID, the TeraStation Essentials NAS provides out-of-the-box reliability and data protection. Active Directory support and advanced NTFS permissions let you control file permissions at the subfolder level, and you can set up folders and user access as you see fit to easily store, back up, and manage your data on the NAS storage.

[1 GB DDR3] The drive works great but I needed to speak with two people at Buffalo to get it to rebuild. Regardless, Buffalo will provide phone support even if the product is out of warranty. You can't beat that.

[24 TB] I recently got the Buffalo TeraStation Essentials 8TB 4-Bay NAS Array for our small business, and wow, it's made a big difference! With 8TB spread over four 2TB drives, we've got loads of space for all our important files. Setting it up was super easy, which was a relief, and using it was straightforward, too. It's quick and reliable when we access our data, which helps everything run smoother day-to-day. Plus, it feels sturdy and well-made, so I'm not worried about it breaking down on us. Honestly, adding the TeraStation to our setup has been a great move for keeping our data organized and easy to get to.

[1 GB DDR3] I bought this unit after receiving help from an informative sales rep at B&H. His recommendation for my buying the Buffalo 8T (4 X 2T) TerraStation was based on my needs (I formerly had a WD 8T MyCloudHome NAS which is no longer supported) and on Buffalo's excellent help line which I can attest was outstanding in helping me. I have 4 Mac computers (3 Ventura and 1 Monterrey OS) on the NAS through a QNAP 2104 switch (also from B&H) and each one backs up correctly through Time Machine with my TerraStation using Raid 5 (Only 6T available with 1 drive designated as the emergency reserve). The unit is well built with a solid metal chassis. The unit runs cool. The 2.5 gig signal works correctly and firmware is updated without any difficulty. Setup was done through NasNavigator 2 software. All connections are through Cat 6 cables. I am very pleased with the results.

[17.275 lb] Network drive seems to work ok.. no problems. Too early to tell, Time will tell, ask me in 2 years. Quick and easy set up. Not my first one, my third Buffalo network drive. Great value for price through B&H Photo..

[17.275 lb] After studying the field, we ordered the Buffalo ls120. This comes configured with 2 drives as raid 1. It was particularly important to insure from data loss. Storage space was secondary. NAS of this quality are usually more expensive (and with more storage than I need). Any device on my LAN can access and share the data without having an attached PC necessary all the time. Other configs are optional, but with raid1, in the unlikely event of one drive failure, the data is still safe and continuously available on the other one. Buffalo would rush a replacement of the failed drive quickly with no interruption.

[1 GB DDR3] Changing RAID modes on this box in quick and painless with the included RAID configuration utility. The device includes backup software but I prefer to use Macrium Reflect. In RAID 0 mode the drive can easily sustain over 120 MB (mega BYTEs not megabits) per second on a capable hosted server over USB 3.0 It is likely even faster over USB 3.1. When I outgrow this I will be buying a newer larger version starting with Buffalo's products. The B & H purchase was awesome as usual!

[24 TB] I have tried FreeNAS and other means of having a systematic backup at home as well as file sharing from home but I didn't have success and I am not tech savvy. While the automatic backup through the USB external Drive setup did require a help of a friend I am able to use the new unit as my home cloud and backup system successfully. Even though I needed some technical help of a friend I am still giving a 5star because the product seems to be of a good quality and very feature rich at a price I couldn't find anywhere else.

[24 TB] Bought as a shared backup solution after Drobos died and that company is going belly-up, with no support or products. TeraStation was easy to connect up and set up shares to multiple PCs. Robust with plenty of capacity.
