The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the gear or combining a large lens motor to control the density. The aluminum and glass filter is 6mm thick and occupies two filter slots in a compatible 4 x 5.65" matte box or can be used without a matte box. It offers 1 to 5-stops of neutral-color light reduction and features NiSi's optical glass. The gear features stop marks to identify the density. The filter includes a 0.6" support rod to mount the lens motor and soft case.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this seriously not come with a cover for when the filter is not in place? That would be Canon's ultra-stingy style.

A: You can get Canon Drop-In Clear Filter A for when you don't wont to use a ND filter https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1434115-REG/canon_3444c001_drop_in_clear_filter_a.html

Q: 2. Can I use the v6 adapter ring on this v7 kit?

A: According to the manufacturer, you can use the main V6 ring with the V7 holder. However, a matching circular polarizer would be needed for that ring. https://bhpho.to/3sSNZzb

Q: 3. Is Nid Is the NiSi 150mm holder compatible with Sony's 14mm FE 1.8 lens?

A: The NiSi S6 150mm Filter Holder Kit with True Color NC CPL for Sony FE 12-24mm f/2.8 GM Lens can be adapted to the Sony 14mm f1.8 lens with this adapter: https://bhpho.to/3DpaAs3

Q: 4. Is the True Color filter built-iinto the NiSi NIP-FH100-V7-TC or can you swap it out?

Q: 6. Will this holder hold filters made to fit the canon adapter?

Q: 7. can this also hold other grads from other manufacturers (Lee, Singh Ray)?

A: Yes, the NISI 100mm V7 100mm Filter Holder Kit with True Color NC Circular Polarizer and Lens Cap, should work fine with most manufacturers' 100mm filters.

Q: 8. Is there an adapter for this holder that allow to use the Hoya 82mm HD3 CPL instead of the one that comes with the kit?

A: No, unfortunately there are no adapters that would properly function with the NiSi V7 100mm Filter Holder Kit with True Color NC Circular Polarizer and Lens Cap with any off-brand filters, other than NiSi, as they are proprietary to this holder.

Q: 9. Will the IS on EF lenses work with this adaptor?

A: As the Meike Drop-In Filter Mount Adapter EF to EOS-R with Variable ND Filter does have electronic contacts to maintain electronic communication between the camera and lens, it should still maintain autofocus and image stabilization communication capabilities when used with Canon EOS R-series mirrorless digital cameras.

Q: 10. What is the diameter of the circular polarizing filter that comes with the kit?

A: Acording to NiSi Optics, as stated, the circular polarizing filter is of an 86mm threading, and is very specific in its profile and would not be able to be replaced by a different option.

[1.36 lb] I should have bought this a long time ago.

I put if off because it felt so expensive but having a variable ND filter like this that doesn't cause any noticeable color shift or an x on the image is a must have for videography.

[Glass] Get this one. The case is great it doesn't hog a bunch of space in the bag or anything :) The quality is superb. The machining is first class too very well made.

[Aluminum] Currently bouncing around Europe where it is hot, hot, hot and the sun is bright, especially in the city streets. I am shooting with a Canon R5C with (primarily) RF 24-70 2.8 lens. I really appreciate shooting video with (of course) locked in shutter at a desired aperture, while managing exposure easily with the adjustment of this variable ND. I’ve removed the protruding filter pin/arm and the filter adjustments, on the run, remain seamless. Can shoot fairly wide open with this guy. Also handy for stills in bright landscape. As a bonus, it serves as a nice lens cap, albeit a bit expensive!

[Glass] Only used this filter twice, but I haven't detected any trace of color alteration.
The printed numbers on the side are a big help to determine just how much adjustment was dialed in, very convenient.
I also like the little thumb screw which helps control the way you adjust the variability especially when wearing gloves

[Aluminum] A great filter. Well made and no color shift. I love the fact that there are hard stops at each end as opposed to endless spin. Also very nice that it comes with its own lens cap.

[Glass] I used cheaper VNDs before at around $30 - $40 a piece but was never happy with the results. They are usually not sharp, have a lot of color cast, big vignette, and overall not a good quality. I then switched to fixed NDs, higher quality at around $70 a piece. Those are the best, but not much felixibility. I finally bought the NiSi True Color and love it. The first VND that's really good. Almost as good as the fixed NDs but with a lot more flexibility when it comes to filming weddings.
