Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens
Change camera orientation from vertical to horizontal with a simple rotation, turn the large ergonomic locking knob to hold its position. The collar features horizontal and vertical marks to ensure perfect alignment.
Effortlessly mount the camera and lens to a tripod without interrupting your shoot. The collar quickly snaps and locks around the lens, and a quarter-turn of the locking knob tightens and secures the ring.
The collar ring's fabric interior offers a snug grip and protects against scratching the lens barrel, and assures a tight and secure fit.
Mounting a camera and lens to a tripod using the camera's mounting socket is not ideal when using heavy, telephoto lenses, placing excessive stress on the lens mount. The lens ring moves the center of balance of the camera and lens set forward for more even weight distribution and balance.
Related Questions and Answers
Q: 1. Is the AF fast? (using 5D Mark III)
A: Yes, it is. I have used it for fashion shoots as well as for still-life photography and its focusing speed is very good.
Q: 2. Hi. Despite the IS, is there other diference between 100mm Macro L and 100mm Macro Standard? Is the image quality the same?
A: Canon's L lenses are by far superior products. If you can afford to spend the extra money, I would definitely advise doing so.
Q: 3. Is this lens compatible with EOS Rebel T5i?
A: Yes, this lens is compatible with the T5i. You will have a field of view like a 160mm lens, since the T5i has a 1.6 crop sensor.
Q: 4. Is the Canon EF 100mm F/2.9L Macro compatible with the Canon RP? Thanks
A: As John said, as long as you have the Canon EOS EF To RF adapter it will work.
Q: 5. Will this lens work with my 90D?
A: Yes, this lens is compatible with a Canon EOS 90D with a crop factor of 1.6X applied to the focal length.
Q: 6. is this the version III of the lens?
A: There is only 1 version of this lens. There is another that is not L or is. But 2 completely different lenses.
Q: 7. is this lens good for sports? BB & FB
A: Hi. The answer is absolutely not.It was recommended to me specifically for close up product shots for my jewelry. Even using it for that is limiting for longer necklaces.Great only for close up details. Hope this helps.
Q: 8. Has anyone used this for weddings? Wondering about getting it as a replacement for ceremonies in place of a worn out 24-105. Not sure if the macro ability affects how well it focuses at other distances. Thanks in advance!
A: The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens is a great lens for wedding usage. Between the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens, the Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM Lens, the Canon EF 85mm f/1.4L IS USM Lens, the Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM Lens, and the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM Lens, all of the above telephoto lenses can be used for wedding photography as incredibly sharp portrait lenses, simply at varying focal lengths through the portrait focal length range. The benefit of the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lesn for this purpose is it is also a macro lens, so you may use it for macro photography needs such as detail shots of the wedding rings, indentations, boutonniere, or other items at the wedding. As all of the lenses listed above focus to infinity, and all use Canon's L-series luxury performance optics, they all have awesome focus performance at all distances, simply with the 100mm f/2.8 macro lens having the additional benefit of close focus capability. None of the above lenses are as flexible or replacements for a 24-105mm lens, which can be used as a main/single all-around lens for weddings for everything from group shots to some portraiture, but the telephoto lenses listed above would be great and brighter for portraiture photography usage needs.
Q: 9. I have an old canon rebel exi. It came with a EFS 18-55mm lens. What do I need to buy for great grand baby pictures or just keep this lens and buy a flash. I will only use it for the baby. Please help!
A: The. 100mm lens your are looking at is a portrait lens as well as a macro lens. The 18-55mm that you have is a zoom. It gives you a fairly wide angle lens at 18mm and about what you see with the naked eye at 55mm. The 100mm allows you to make a slightly larger image than the zoom at 55mm. If you can afford it, it is an excellent lens and the one that pros use to do portraits such as those taken in a studio. The 100mm is a fixed focal length lens so you change what is in the picture by moving the camera closer or farther away. The 18-55mm can be used to zoom in and out to get the picture that you want. A flash is very nice for indoor photos because it supplements the available light. You can also do this by changing the ISO setting and making your camera more sensitive to the existing light. I have this lens and a flash. If you can afford both that is ideal. If you need to buy one or the other I guess I would go with the flash for use indoors.Another possibility might be to choose a lens like the 24-105mm zoom that will be less expensive but still good quality and you might then be able to afford the flash as well.I hope this helps.
Q: 10. Is it necessary (or do you recommend) to use filters with this lense (e.g. also to avoid that the lenses gets damaged)? Which one is good for daily use?
A: That is the million dollar question. Some photogs insist there be some protection for the front lens element, others say it affects the photograph. I had just purchased a 70-200 f/2.8L IS lens, with a B+W 77mm clear haze filter on it. I swear I zipped up my bag I keep my short teles in, and was putting it away when that lens came flying out and hit right on the edge of the filter from 3 feet. I heard glass break, and my heart sank. Looked at it, the filter was broken, but not a scratch, dent, ding, nada on the lens front. Unscrewed the remains of the filter, brushed and cleaned the front element, put the lens on my camera, and fired off several shots at all apertures and focal lengths to make sure I didn't just blow 2 grand. Worked just like unboxed. All my good lenses now have B+W filters on them, it did its job. I've never noticed any difference with, or without a clear protective filter on my lenses, as far as shots go. I'll take them off if I'm using a polarizer, or ND filter. One filter is enough. Everyone has their favorite brand, but I suggest screwing one on.
