Add Dante networking to your facility with the AVN-AIO4 from Sonifex. This single-rack-space interface offers 4 XLR inputs and 4 XLR outputs, allowing you to convert up to 4 inputs and 4 outputs to and from the Dante Audio-over-IP (AoIP) networking standard via the single RJ45 port. The RJ45 port also supplies the unit with power over Ethernet (PoE). The system supports the AES67 digital protocol for additional compatibility.

The AVN-AIO4 supports resolutions up to 32 bits and sampling rates up to 96 kHz. At rates over 48 kHz, only two input and output channels are available at once. A firmware update is available from Sonifex that enables four channels of inputs or outputs at 96 kHz.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this mixer have automatic mic mix, auto gain and auto feedback filters for conferences/panels?

A: No, the Yamaha DM3-D Digital Mixing Console with Dante does not offer automatic mic mixing, auto-gain, or auto-feedback filters.

Q: 2. I am running the TF5 with the N 64 card but can only access 40 channels how do I access the full 64 on the console

A: I am using this on a TF1. The TF boards seem to be limited to 1 to 1 routing of the Slot channels (Slot 1 goes to fader 1). For the TF5 it looks like you can only have access to 48 channels of the Slot so you cannot use all 64 at the same time. You could, however, use the Dante Controller to change the routing of the channel matrix to get access to channels other than 1-48.

Q: 3. It says the mac processor should be Intel Core i3. I have i5. Will that still work?

A: Yes, the U-44 should work with your computer. Intel Core i3 is the minimum system requirement..

Q: 4. I would like to use Dante Via to route the digital channels from our Yamaha TF1 to and from various software packages (Wirecast, Zoom, Skype, iTunes, etc.) on our Mac Pro. Will this card allow me to do this? I am assuming it would communicate over an ethernet (Cat 5e) from the NY64-D mixer expansion card in the TF1 mixer to our Mac Pro, Correct?

A: The Yamaha NY64-D will add Dante connectivity to the TF1 mixer, enabling it to transmits and receive up to 128 Channels of audio within the Dante Network and communicate with Dante Via. The connection is done with Cat 5e cabling as you've stated.

Q: 5. Does this come with the EXH-6 attachment? The description is confusing. It says 4 inputs but the base unit only has 2, but allows for the EXH-6 attachment to get 4.

A: The U-44 does not include the attachment for the extra two microphone channels. I have not purchased that to try yet, but the connector on the bottom of the unit works with the microphone that comes with the H6. I think those are the same type of Zoom microphone connector standard.

Q: 6. Can I pair two consoles together using a NY64-D expansion card without having a Tio1608-D in place? We want to share channels 1-16 on board 1 with board 2 (programmed as 17-32), and vice-versa.

A: By connecting both consoles via a Dante network you will be able to share information with any other device on the network.

Q: 7. anyone tried to hook this up with new iPad Pro? usb-c to usb-b 2.0?

A: You will need to use the Apple Lightning to USB Camera Adapter. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/897273-REG/Apple_md821zm_a_LIGHTNING_TO_USB_CAMERA.html

Q: 8. Are the outputs assignable? Can I send input 1&2 to Lineout-1 and input 3&4 to Lineout-2?

A: No, the outputs on the Zoom U-44 Portable 4x4 USB Handy Audio/MIDI Interface are not assignable.

Q: 9. Can you choose between mic and line for the xlr outputs?

A: No. The analog XLR outputs on the Yamaha DM3-D Digital Mixing Console supply line level output.

Q: 10. Does this record to SD as well?

A: No. This is strictly an interface to your computer or iOS device.

[24-Bit] This Zoom U-44 is AMAZING. Perfect in many ways especially in the ability to use the Zoom mics directly connected to it.
You can’t just purchase it... tell your friends!! I did.

[1 RU] Works exactly as expected. Plug it in and it's automatically recognized in Dante Controller. We used it to send audio from a basement production room audio console to an ATEM constellation located upstairs. Since the network infrastructure was in place, saved me the hassle of pulling new wire.

[96 kHz / 32-Bit] This is a very high end Dante interface sample rates up to 192khz
The latency of this unit is extremely good I run all Ubiquity network to 5 rooms
And the latency is only 187 microseconds not milliseconds I’m using 12
Channels out
If you register the warranty online it turns it from 1 year to 2 years
I highly recommend this interface

[1 RU] I’ve used several Zoom products over the years and this one has the best preamps I’ve ever used. Very quiet.

[24-Bit] I am using this interface primarily to record 2 stereo pairs from my Elektron Octatrack and multitracking with Ableton Live and Adobe Audition. I'm monitoring on JBL LSR205s & KRK KNS8400s.

The build quality of the interface is very nice and the knobs feel durable with no wobble and a good amount of rotation pressure that feels precise and smooth. I have am experiencing very low latency on OSX El Capitan and successfully multitracked into my iPad using Beatmaker.

The compressors sounds nice, especially for the price range. I find them to be perfectly subtle; there to enhance your audio recording rather than act as an effect. I think that's a smart decision for an onboard compressor since you could get more dramatic, pumping, compression in your DAW if that's what you're going for.

Overall I'm really happy with this interface. I could hardly find reviews of this line so hopefully this is helpful for anyone else looking at these.

[24-Bit] This is a well built piece of equipment. The two channels work great and the expansion slot makes everything better. It's small for folks on the go and can be easily used as a PC Audio interface or, alternatively, used in conjunction with a handheld recorder (with line-in,) or a camera (also with line-in or Mic.) Flexibility to be wireless (option to run on batteries) and phantom power to boot. It makes mobile podcasting a breeze which is my primary use. Pair it with a mixer for more flexibility and capturing live performances. It's really right there in the name. It's HANDY!

[Windows ] This has been a great way to get IEM outputs to backline musicians via Dante. The power over ethernet function is great so you aren't having to worry about a power supply. I have had no complaints from musicians.

[Windows ] The Sony XLR-H1 XLR Handle Unit is priced at $599 and this Zoom U-44 at $189 as of the writing of this review. Basically a third of the cost and you get so much more functionality out of this device with a much better, cleaner pre-amp. Unless your a running and gunning, there's not justification to pay 600 bucks for Sony's way overpriced XLR-H1.

I am powering my U-44 with a 5V USB sourced cable connected to a power strip with USB ports, but having the option to power it with two AA batteries is certainly a plus (remember you could always buy a
Zoom AD-17 AC Adapter to power it as well). My Sennheiser MKH 416 gets its signal through the U-44's pre-amp directly into my Sony FX3 without a problem and without any extra noise. I have my U-44 set to 'Stand Alone AD/DA' at 48 to hit my video's audio track with the right frequency. It is a bit bulky on my FX3 rig, but not too large to make it problematic. It is super light in weight and really well built.

I also got a Zoom AIH-1 Audio Interface Holder to clamp it onto my rig and I gotta say it is a must if you are planning on riging it up because the AIH-1 is specifically made for this device as well as for the
U-22 and the U-24.

I have two more FX30s and needed another XLR handle but didn't want to spend that ridiculous amount of money for just that flimsy XLR handle unit, so I found this beauty and it solved my problem with quality and style. Highly recommended!

[Dante] Was needing to have a simple way to record audio to one of our IP cameras, and this device did exactly what it was supposed to do. It allowed us to run the microphone, amplifier, and camera off one PoE connection. Easy to install.

[Windows ] There's more that one Zoom out there. The U-44 solved my problem with the the iMac 10.15.5 audio anti-feedback system that caused this old guy (with hearing loss) getting headphone signals of both incoming and outgoing audio during video conferencing. USB connection to the computer, no added drivers or apps needed. I use the U-44 with a phantom-powered Shure lavalier mic (A-D in) and any of several headphones (D-A out). No audio delay and adequate gain. Handy indeed.
