Q: 4. Question about checking/adjusting the speed using the strobe dots: On the consumer model AT-LP120XUSB it shows that three of the four rows of platter dots correspond to 33, 45, and 78 speeds which seems straightforward. On this model the markings seem to say that the rows of dots instead correspond to relative speed percentages (from the image it looks like +7.2, +3.3, 0, and -3.3%). How do you know which rows of platter dots to use to calibrate to 33, 45, and 78 rpm? Thank you.

A: The Audio-Technica Consumer AT-LP140XP Direct Drive Professional DJ Turntable has two buttons on the left for selecting 33, 45, or 78 RPM (press both together for 78 RPM). The dots next to the numbers for the speed percentages are different sizes. "0" is the indicator for normal speed and it correlates with the largest dot in the strobe display, so if you want the speed to be normal, and not faster or slower, that is the strobe dot to look at when you are calibrating the speed. The "Quartz" button next to the tone arm turns the pitch function on and off. There are tempo range buttons on the right corner along with a pitch control slider switch to adjust the speed, and a selection indicator that lights up blue for standard or locked RPM settings. The stroboscopic lights around the platter work just like a strobe tuner for musical instruments to give you a visual indication of the platter speed. The dots will look like they have stopped moving when the platter is turning at the rated speed, and they will look like they are moving to the left if the platter is turning too fast, and they will look like they are moving to the right, if the platter is turning too slowly. You can find more information about checking and adjusting the pitch controls on page 11 of the user manual: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/642204.pdf

Q: 5. Is this pre amp compatible with both moving magnet and moving coil cartridge types?

A: This preamp is suitable for all moving magnet (or moving iron) cartridges. Moving coil cartridges come in two flavors, low output and high output. This preamp WILL work for high output MC cartridges (such as the Denon DL-110 or the Dynavector 10x5) but it will NOT work for low output moving coil cartridges (such as the Denon DL-103 or DL-30x series). If you wanted to used a low output MC with the ART unit, you'd need an extra piece of hardware called a step-up transformer (a.k.a. SUT).

Q: 6. What cartridge should be used to play shellac 78 RPM records?

A: For playing shellac 78 RPM records on the Audio-Technica Consumer AT-LP1240-USB XP Professional DJ Direct-Drive Turntable, you can use the Audio-Technica Consumer AT-VM95SP/H Cartridge and Headshell Combo Kit (B&H # AUATVM95SPH) if you need the headshell as well as the cartridge, or the Audio-Technica Consumer AT-VM95SP Dual Moving Magnet Cartridge (B&H # AUATVM95SP) for the cartridge only.

Q: 7. Whats the best way to connect to a PC for making mp3's? There are no RCA jacks on my laptop.

A: The ART DeeJay Pre can be connected to a simple USB audio interface which will allow an analog source to be connected to a computer via USB. Using a unit such as the Behringer UCA 202 you can connect the 2 using a standard RCA cable. a href= http://bhpho.to/1CMSAW2 target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1CMSAW2/a

Q: 8. How does this compare to Denon DP-450USB? Trying to decide between the two on B&H site. Thanks

A: Although the Denon is the prettier, more attractive looking TT, the Audio-Technica is the far better value and more robustly built unit. The included cartridge is superior as well.

Q: 9. Can you plug a mic to this?

A: No, it is not possible to connect a microphone to the Hercules DJControl Inpulse 300 2-Deck USB DJ Controller. There are no audio inputs on this controller.

Q: 10. Can the Traktor Pro 3 software be used free of charge with the Kontrol S4? Any fees, like a subscription?

A: There are no additional fees or subscription required to use the TRAKTOR PRO 3 software that is included with the Native Instruments TRAKTOR KONTROL S4 MK3 4-Channel DJ Controller.

[IEC Input] Every DJ needs a true vintage record platter feel. And your fans will LOVE to see the motion of a record player on your table. The RANE12 MKII is an amazing unit providing effortless control of your tracks in a true Vinyl fashion. Torque control is fantastic, platter reading has no lag, & finessing the platter with light touch reacts as it should.
Note: 1) When you inititally set up, make sure you choose your RPM speed, or else it will default to 33 & your music will be slow & pitched down. 2) Unlike other controllers, you won't have anything more than a pad for hot cues/or for needle drop. However, what is missing on the 12 is on your mixer controller anyway so it is not a problem. DJ your 60s-80s set lists with this tool to be as authentic as you can be without a trunk full of record crates!
Some have complained that the stock slip pad is not slick enough. Keep a light touch on the platter & it works just fine.

[34.51 lb] I have had many controllers in the past, this is the best one for me by far! Most recently coming from a Pioneer DDJ 1000SRT and a DDJ Rev 5. With the new Rev 7 firmware and Serato updates, the Rev 7 essentially does everything the Rev 5 does and more, and offers a lot more in hardware capabilities and functionality! The pads, fx levers, faders, and buttons all feel so much better and more solid than on the Rev 5.

There is definitely an adjustment to the spinning platters coming from so many years on static jog wheels, and no Cue button, but it's so much more fun and you can quickly get used to it.

The package deal is absolutely amazing! Just getting the decksaver included was enough, but to also get a power strip (could always use an extra one ), a pair of headphones (not great ones, but useful), and a laptop stand, it was completely worth it.

Love this controller. I have owned and played on many controllers dating back to the original controller, the Pioneer DDJ S1, to the SX, SX2, SZ, Numark Mixtracks, Roland 505, 1000SRT, Rev 5...this feels the absolute best for my workflow, it will be a while before I feel the need to switch from the Rev 7.

[34.51 lb] There is not much to say about this controller other than Pioneer DJ nailed it! As a vinyl DJ on turntables for over 35 years, this is the closest I've come across to using traditional vinyl on a portable controller. Coupled with the great mixer section, there is not much (if anything) that I would change. Definitely worth the buy.
Also... the $100 upgrade with the flight case is a no-brainer. The case is built like a tank. Honestly, it may even be too large and robust. Unless you're going to use it for frequent gigging.

[50 W] The RANE 70 is a solid previous gen mixer. Though it lacks some of the bells & whistles like the OLED screen for your wave forms, this should not deter you at all from putting this on the short list as you will get all that from your software.

Pads are extremely responsive. On board effects rival the software effects, but a simple button gives you access to both. Controllers are plug & play & construction is rugged & durable. Example: I run a RANE 12MKII on the right & a Denon LC6000 on the left, & set up couldn't be simpler.
Note, the controls for the attack on the sliders are on the front face panel. Do not neglect these if you are a DJ who likes to fade out a track into another, or else the cut will not be natural.
......but if you are scratching, this is where you need to get the precision.

[AC Input] It's dope. Next question. :)

No but seriously it's a great 2 chan scratch/performance mixer. I used to be one of those that didn't want to spend the money on such mixers. I bought cheaper mixers for a while and recently realized that has held back my creativity. After watching so many YouTube reviews on mixers I took the plunge a few months back and bought a Serato Mixars mixer. I really liked all the options on the Mixars and it really expanded what I could do without touching my laptop. There were some limits though didn't quite give me all the functions I wanted on the Mixars. I finally decided to upgrade to the Rane Seventy and it's just awesome.

You can just about control everything you need on the mixer or midi map custom actions with custom buttons.
The paddles are a must have for activating your effects and the option to do multiple effects simultaneously is great. The silent cue feature is also a feature other mixers don't have and helps with your mixes. Overall, spend the money and take your DJing to the next level. You won't regret it.

Pros:

It's a Rane.
Great sound quality
Silent Cue feature
Hardware and Software effects (Serato effects can be combined)
Line faders are smooth and loose for greater creativity and usage
Great Crossfader for scratch djs with adjustable tension
Too many others to list...

Cons:

Can be pricey for many
(Recommend to get the B&H card and get 0% interest and pay it off over 12 months.)
