However, I have three different brands of ball heads that I could use with this levelling base and all three ball heads have the ability to rotate 360 degrees independently of the levelling base.

A: Hey Paul,You could mount a ball head with a maximum base diameter of 2.25, and still see/use the bubble level. This Acratech Leveling Base is awesome; superbly made, and quite functional.
