Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will it be able to read CFexpress type B cards?

A: No. CFExpress Type Bs are physically larger and do not fit in the card slot.

Q: 2. Will this work with SD UHS-II cards

A: Yes it will!

Q: 3. Will this reader work with an un-powered hub?

A: The Xcellon CFexpress Type B and UHS-II SD Card Reader is bus powered. It is a USB connected devices which takes its power from the USB connection and don't require an external power source.

Q: 4. I was testing the Sony MRW-G2 with the Sony 160GB CFexpress Type A on my computer and uploaded 100GB of data to it using USB 3 on Windows 10. My upload speed averaged150 MB/s, and my download speed averaged 500 MB/s. USB-3 supports 625 MB/s, and my hard drive is 2000 MB/s. Why is the upload speed so slow?

A: If you are connecting to a hub between the computer and the reader that slows down the transfer rate. Also check the cache that your SSD has. If the cache is 2GB but you are transferring 256GB once it hits 2GB the transfer rate will slow down a lot. SSD vendors always advertise their performance based on the cached area. They never advertise the performance based on writing 256GB of data in a cached area of only 2GB.

Q: 5. Is this UHS-II?

A: Yes.

Q: 6. is there a CFexpress type B card reader out there to Apple lightning?

A: Regarding the Exascend CFexpress Type B / SD Express Card Reader, there are no CFexpress Type B card readers with an Apple Lightning connection.

Q: 7. Will this item also read a XQD card?

A: Unfortunately, the Xcellon CFexpress Type B and UHS-II SD Card Reader is not compatible with XQD cards.

Q: 8. Can you connect and download to an iPad Pro?

A: Yes this reader can connect via USB-C to an iPad Pro.

Q: 9. Can you use a thunderbolt cord to this card reader?

A: The Sony MRW-G2 CFexpress Type A/SD Memory Card Reader BH #SOMRWG2 can be used with a Thunderbolt USB Type-C cable if the host device has a Thunderbolt port that supports USB Type-C.

Q: 10. If I'm reading a SDXC card with a read limit of 300 mb/s limit, isn't that my max transfer rate regardles of whether this thing is capable of 1250?

A: That is correct. You are limited by the read speed of the memory card with any card reader. So, if the card reader is faster than the memory card, the fastest is the speed of the card.

[1x USB-C Female] It works well with my new Mac studio and 27 apple display setup. Shoot still photos withmy drone images, capture 4K video DJI from various camera and my Canon DSLR cameras. Faster than my older USB 3.0 UDMA reader.

[Aluminum] Second slot for the card reader does not work. Pretty pricey for a card reader for such a faulty product.

[0.545 lb] This reader works just as advertised, right out of the box. I've had zero issues. Plug it in and the computer sees it right away. There's no need for downloading drivers, it is truly plug and play. And I love its size, nice and small. You could easily put it in your laptop bag or even a pocket if you needed to do so. It provides fast transfer speeds; specs say the USB 3.2 Gen 2 gives speeds up to 10 Gb/s. It's been more than enough speed for my needs. The build quality is fantastic. It is made of aluminum which keeps it very lightweight but still very strong. It is very sturdy. The aluminum material also helps to dissipate the heat. The ports also seem well-made. The USB-C cables fit snug and secure. It has a soft material bottom that keeps it in place on your desk and prevents any scratching. It has a little blue led light that lets you know it is communicating with the computer too, which is very helpful and I appreciate. If you've had a reader without an LED indicator, you know how annoying that can be. Both card slots have a push locking system that is receptive and responsive. The reader itself has a bus powered USB-C port, but the reader comes with both a USB-C to USB-C and a USB-C to USB-A cable. This is very helpful. Most of my computers have the faster USB-C ports, but my older MacBook Pro only has USB-A, so to have that flexibility is appreciated. This is a great card reader, well-made, easy to use and has fast transfer speeds. It's working great for me. [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]

[0.545 lb] Works great as expected with no need for plugins or drivers or any of that mess. I appreciate that it comes with both USB C and A cables so I never have a compatibility issue with older edit bays. 10gb/s is fast enough for my Sony Alpha and FX3 footage and love the small size and aesthetic that matches my MacBook Pro computer and can fit in the smallest pockets of my bag or in my own pocked if need be. It feels very durable in my hands and doesn't have the cheap plastic reflection look like a lot of other junk that feels disposable. In the end this would be a perfect card reader at this cost to keep in all my camera bags or laptop bag as primaries and backups to speed up a day and prevent forgetfulness [I have received this product in exchange for my honest review]

[Aluminum] Works as expected. Small and compact. I didn't notice any extreme heat but it did get warm. However, I download my images then disconnect. Downloaded fast to an SSD.

One of the cables was INOP on the first reader so returned everything and B&H replaced it all without a problem.

[1x USB-C Female] I have had issues with other readers in the past with inconistent speeds or connectivity but this one has been rock solid so far.
It it is as fast the fastest I had tried but much more consistent reading and writing to the cards during all my tests.
