Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the Rigwheels better than the Dana dolly? Thanks.

A: I don't think it's better than the Dana dolly, but it depends on your use. The rig wheels plate is much smaller and doesn't have the Mitchell plate groves or any way to lock the ball adapter in place. If you are just using small cameras than its not a big deal and the rig wheels dolly works great. The rig wheels dolly is great if you are planning to buy some of the other rig wheels products as well because it can be used in many ways.

Q: 2. Will this work with a gimbal? Looking to mount an M5/C100 combo with a ninja star.

A: Yes, most gimbal heads should work. The head comes off this kit so you can change that for a different head.

Q: 3. After full assembly, how long will the arms extend?

A: Since you would have (4) 20 arms and (1) 8 arm, you can essentially get 88 of reach out of the system. The maximum reach is really dependent on where you position each suction cup and grip head.

Q: 4. Can you use this dolly for an overhead inverted shot?

A: Yes. You can also add some stand-offs to lower the camera further underneath the carriage if there are any clearance issues.

Q: 5. What is the max weight capacity on this?

A: I would say 100lbs is a nice safe limit. However, the manufacturer has tested 200 lbs without issue. At that kind of weight, do be cognizant of the support rail strength and mounting.

Q: 6. Can I put my tripod on here?

A: I'm afraid not. This dolly is very compact, it is not wide enough for a tripod. However it does have a 3/8 -16 threaded hole in the center for mounting flat base tripod heads, such as the Manfrotto 502HD (B&H #MAMVH502AH). If you are looking for an option that will work with a tripod you may want to look at the Glide Gear SYL-960 Floor/Track Hybrid Tripod Dolly (B&H #GLSYL960) and their Straight Track option (B&H #GLSYL101).

Q: 7. What do i need to mount a rs2 and a camera on this system?

A: Nothing. The system is complete and ready to be used. Camera and RS2 will attach via 1/4 or 3/8 screw on ball head.

Q: 8. How far apart do the rails need to be... or what is the distance from the outer edges of the bottom/side wheels?

A: Please see the brackets and the specs they have. RigWheels Universal Rail Brackets with 13 Cross Bars B&H # RIEB13

Q: 9. Would this be suitable for side mount options like a hostess tray set up?

A: You could for small cameras.

Q: 10. Could you safely rig an Alexa Mini with this kit? Would that ball head support its weight?

A: This has a 40 pound load capacity.

[10.925 lb] Perfect for DIY dollies, these have given me smooth movement on a budget. Highly recommended.

[Black] What's to say? It works. And it works really well. Threw up a blackmagic design pocket with some ananmorphics in a Jetta in less time than it takes to say anamorphic. Just, word to the wise, don't test how strong the magnets are by magnetizing them to each other; trust me, they are strong....

[10.925 lb] I mounted two Canon C100 Mk II, each individually to a RigMount X6 Magnet Camera Mounts (RIRMX6), and a third camera on an INDURO Hi-Hat all attached horizontally upon the rear deck of a convertible. The INDURO Hi-Hat feet have mounting holes comparable with the RigMount magnet post 1/4-20 studs. My friend and I then cruse'd a few winery's on California's Sonoma County back roads testing camera shake in varying loads and conditions. Some roads rough, some smooth. traveling at speeds up to 60mph. All mounts performer as if welded to the auto body deck.

[Black] Super useful setup with a variety of ways to secure an existing mount in case of an accident. It's already been tested and has protected against a failed suction cup.

[10.925 lb] I have never seen anything like it with so much power of magnet.

[Black] I am using it with a diy camera dolly. It is smooth but not silent. On camera mic will pick up wheel noise but the mic a little farther away from camera works fine.

[Black] I got this to provide extra security in addition to my heavy-duty ratchet straps.

[Black] I have metal working machines and have been able to build my own versions of most of the Rig Wheels Platforms. Granted my stuff in not interchangeable into multiple configurations. That was not necessary, I just build platforms as needed. The one thing I could not easily duplicate is this magnet. It has a 1/4 x 20 stud, making it easy to screw into any threaded hole I make. I would not run any attachment system without safety tie downs. This is where using a magnet is far superior to a suction cup. Should it come loose, it will reattach itself without any assistance. Not that one ever has, but it is comforting to understand. An array of 8 of these requires some effort to release from the vehicle. I am impressed. The long stem is essential. I added a nut and once I set the length needed use a nut to lock it in place. Realize, all car surfaces are not flat, in fact it is hard to find flat. By adjusting the depth of the stem, you can compensate for a small amount of curvature on a car hood. A bonus feature, the surface you are attaching to does not have to be perfectly clean to get attachment. Although I do clean the area I am mounting to. I can see where a bit of grime between the magnet and the car paint might get ground into the paint.
