The Ashly NE4400DS Digital Signal Processor with AES I/Ofrom Ashly NE4400DS Digital Signal Processor with AES I/Ois a network-enabled DSP processor that offers easy setup and control using standard 10/100 Ethernet protocol and Protea ne software. The unit features four analog inputs and four analog outputs, along with four channels of AES3 input and output, with the digital I/O filling two of the four option bays that provide expanded functionality.

The DSP signal processing library is extensive and utilizes multiple SHARC 32-bit processors with sample rates of either 48 or 96 kHz. Processing blocks include a 4 x 4 matrix mixer, a full array of graphic, parametric and all-pass equalization, crossover filters including 8th-order Butterworth, Bessel, Linkwitz-Riley and notched Linkwitz-Riley.

The Protea Software Suite also includes an automatic feedback suppressor, gain sharing automatic microphone mixing, ambient noise sensing and level adjustment, autolevelers, compressors, matrix duckers, limiters, frequency-keyed noise gates, signal delay up to 1365 ms on every channel and a choice of sinewave, pink or white noise generators.

All programming is accomplished using standard 10/100 Ethernet or RS-232 protocol and Protea ne software on a PC platform. Hot-plug software control allows for plugging any function into any channel block, even when running live audio with recompiling necessary. Automatic DHCP network IP configuration reduces network set up time. Multi-level software security with password access provides a tamper-proof audio system.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. why can't I just use a standard XLR "Y" cable to split AES?

A: Without getting technical: while there is a chance it may work - and it usually works ok the other way around (using AES/EBU cables on analog gear - it is not recommended to use non AES/EBU cables on digital gear. You can experiment but it is not recommended

Q: 2. What is the maximum delay on an output channel? The block diagram shows 21 ms but that seems like a typo.

A: In the manufacturer's specifications for the Ashly Protea 4.8SP - 4 Input, 8 Output Digital Speaker Processor, the user manual lists 1.46ms as the spec for propagation delay and 0 to 682ms as the spec for input and output delay. This information is shown on page 14: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/882193.pdf

Q: 3. will this work with the AJA Kipro ultra plus?

A: Thank you for your question. This snake should work with the AJA for AES protocol.

Q: 4. Will this work with Lewitt LCT 040 Diaphragm Condenser Microphones?

A: No, the Polsen XP-2 2-Channel Microphone Signal Booster does not pass phantom power and as a result is not compatible with condenser microphones.

Q: 5. Is there a way to reverse the connections? One male xlr to Two female xlr?

A: Using these gender changer/turn-around adapters will make this Y adapter work for you: QTY: 1 - Neutrik XLR Male to XLR Male Adapter - B&H # NENA3MM a href= http://bhpho.to/1AUy9Ga target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1AUy9Ga/aQTY: 2 - Neutrik XLR Female to XLR Female Adapter - B&H # NENA3FF a href= http://bhpho.to/1EWoJv0 target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1EWoJv0/a

Q: 6. Can the AES/EBU work as a standard XLR splitter?

A: The Sescom SES-AES-EBU-Y Impedance Matching AES/EBU Y-Splitter Cable is designed specifically for digital audio, not analog audio. There can be a problem with impedance mismatch if you use it with analog audio and standard XLR cables, since digital audio is typically 120 ohms and analog audio is 50 ohms. If you need an XLR Y-adapter for analog audio signal, you can use the Hosa Technology YXM-101.5 XLR Female to Dual XLR Male Audio Y-Cable - 18" (B&H # HOYCXF2XM18).

Q: 7. Is this device plug-and-play compatible on a Dante audio network? Or is it a proprietary networking protocol?

A: The BSS Audio Soundweb London BLU-100 is not directly dante compatible.

Q: 8. Is it better than the DBX drive rack?

A: Both the Ashly and DBX units are solid products and share many similar features. Your application would determine which product is correct for you. Please feel free to contact a Representative here at 800-606-6969 or email audio@a href= http://bandh.com target= _blank bandh.com/a for information and assistance.

Q: 9. Will this work with other Manufacturers' Cameras?

A: Yes, the Digital Watchdog Compressor 16-Channel HD and Legacy Analog to IP Signal Encoder will work with other camera brands.

Q: 10. what causes the beeping sound?

A: Without further detail it is hard to say for certain, but the beeping sound on the Ashly Protea 24.24M - Audio Matrix Processor with Tamper-Proof Operation and System Software for Windows is likely an indication of a process in function, an error, or another undetermined indication.

[12 lb] For some time I have been driving two spdif devices off one spdif output. One was about a 40 foot run of cheap audio coax type cable. I often had erratic audio performance at the end of the long line no doubt due to poor signal quality. I had considered building my own distribution amp but when I found this product at this price point it looked efficient to try it. The product is housed in a pretty nice small metal box. It's a little tippy on top of my stack of instruments but seems to work very well driving the short and long spdif runs. I also now have two more channels available to add spdif runs to other rooms also. Thanks you.

[10 lb (4.5 kg)] It is an advanced processing signal plugin. Through complicated algorithms it is possible to identify, separate and isolate the reverberation and spatial component of a mixed audio signal. The result is impressive a more clear and more presence of the voice and the instruments. When you are working on tracks this plugin can modified the punch of the drums and increase the presence of the voice. In the bass and guitar tracks brings more clarity.

[12 lb] With all the new cameras that are coming out having only a switchable in or out timecode. This little unit is the answer to all my timecode issues. Not to mention the care and support that M.S.C. gives to their product.
