With support for sample rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz, native sample rate conversion for all digital I/O, and three clock source options (internal, ADAT, and BNC), the Revolution EXP is an ideal add-on to any studio seeking greater control over digital signal flow and sample rates.

The Revolution EXP includes eight analog 1/4" TRS inputs and outputs, with a selectable pad on each input that toggles between +4 dB (pro-level devices) and -10 dBV (consumer-level devices). You also get BNC wordclock input and output for syncing your devices to the Revolution EXP or vice-versa. Four multi-segment LED meters let you keep an eye on your analog signal levels, while a single LCD screen keeps you informed of your current sample rate. The Revolution EXP includes a DC power cord.

The Revolution EXP can be used for various applications in the studio. You can set up four sets of stereo sends and returns for external reverbs EQs, and other processors, or create four sets of stereo headphone sends for monitoring applications.

You can route four mono stems and two stereo stems to an analog summing mixer via your Revolution EXP analog outputs, and use two stereo inputs to return from the summing mixer. You can even add eight mono speakers via the Revolution EXP outputs and create a 5.1.2 spatial audio mix environment. These examples just scratch the surface.

With driver 5.70, Revolution interfaces now benefit from the addition of the Black Lion Audio Mixer, which offers low-latency routing with no CPU-eating DSP—ideal for direct monitoring applications. The Black Lion Audio Mixer features Simple and Advanced modes, giving you quick and easy access to your levels or complex routing options. The Mixer also lets you tap into the Revolution interfaces' powerful loopback feature, letting you route audio from one app to another. Thanks to the BLA mixer, you'll be able to:

  • Send DAW audio and talkback mic to Discord for a remote session
  • Live stream a digital DJ set from your DAW
  • Sample audio from your browser to your DAW
  • Record or stream a song to your phone with a backing track that is playing on your computer (Revolution 6x6 only)
  • Live streaming a guitar performance from your phone (Revolution 6x6 only)

The number of digital audio channels that can be transmitted or received by the ADAT I/O is dependent upon the selected sampling rate. Higher sampling rates consume more bandwidth, reducing channel count.

When using one ADAT port:

  • 44.1 kHz: 8 inputs and 8 outputs
  • 48 kHz: 8 inputs and 8 outputs
  • 88.2 kHz: 4 inputs and 4 outputs
  • 96 kHz: 4 inputs and 4 outputs
  • 176.4 kHz: 2 inputs and 2 outputs
  • 192 kHz: 2 inputs and 2 outputs

When using two ADAT ports:

  • 44.1 kHz: 8 inputs and 8 outputs
  • 48 kHz: 8 inputs and 8 outputs
  • 88.2 kHz: 8 inputs and 8 outputs
  • 96 kHz: 8 inputs and 8 outputs
  • 176.4 kHz: 4 inputs and 4 outputs
  • 192 kHz: 4 inputs and 4 outputs

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Has anyone tried this teleconverter with the K3ii and the Pentax 150-450mm zoom lens?

A: Yes, users say the teleconvertor will magnify any positive or negative issues with the lens. One reviewer says "I was still very impressed, based on my experience with my K1 plus DFA 150-450 mm". Knowing that this teleconvertor is made for crop sensor cameras, using the K3ii, the results will be even better.

Q: 2. Does the CD player connect to the Analog Inputs in the back panel? What type of cable connectors should be used? RCA?

A: The best way to connect a consumer CD player to this unit would be to utilize either the S/PDIF Coaxial or S/PDIF Optical digital inputs. The analog inputs are balanced 1/4-inch TRS or XLR, and usually connect to professional audio gear, such as a mixing board or a CD player, such as the Tascam CD-500B Single-Rackspace CD Player (Balanced), BH #TACD500B.

Q: 3. Hi, will this convert my MF lenses to AF lenses? I understand the older Pentax SMC-F 1.7x will allow me to AF my manual lenses? Thanks for your time and advice!

A: No it does not. Only the older Pentax-F 1.7x does that. It was designed to work with Pentax-A manual focus lenses as a transition to auto-focus. No other TC I know of does that.

Q: 4. Where is it made?

A: The Country of Origin for this product is China.

Q: 5. Will this lens work on a Pentax 55-300 lens? Thanks. Steve

A: You may or may not be happy with the results. Bear in mind that teleconverters are designed to work properly with prime (fixed) fast lenses...f4 or faster. On zooms, even on fast zooms like 70-200f2.8, the results will not be that great. 55-300mm.... Probably not worth spending $$500 for a TC since the performance and quality will be marginal. I don't like it in my 70-200 f4 or f2.8

Q: 6. Will it work with Pentax K-5 and 150-450mm 4.5-5.6 lens?

A: Yes, its compatible but you will probably lose autofocus on the long end.

Q: 7. Can I play an analog source and have it digital out via coaxial in real time?

A: Yes, the RME ADI-2 Pro FSR BE Reference AD/DA Converter with Extreme Power Headphone Amplifiers and Remote is able to route an analog audio source to its digital outputs in this manner.

Q: 8. I just bought this, but it's not working with a 1280x768 resolution. Any advice?

A: Sorry I do not have any advice. I too have a similar issue.

Q: 9. I just bought this, but it's not working with a 1280x800 resolution. Any advice?

A: Jodan, I had the same problem you experiancing. I did not keep my I returned it. It was not useful to me.I wish you luck.

Q: 10. has anyone powered this unit with USB power instead of plugging it into the wall? Does it need to be plugged into the wall?

A: Hi Mark. The unit requires a 5 volt DC source at 2 amps. Any power supply of 5 volts DC with at least a 2 amp rating will power the unit. So, if you have a USB power supply of 5 volts that can supply the amp rating it should work. Please be aware of the polarity of the power supply you are using. And no, I have not tried powering the unit from a USB port or power supply, but it is a good question.

[9.665 lb] Tried BLA's clock on an avid VENUE SC48 and the difference is noticeable There was no way to connect an Lexicon outboard gear MPX1 to the console digitally if we didn't have the micro-clock Good investment

[AD/DA Converter] This is an absolutely amazing sound creation device that can be used as a standalone part of a stereo system or as the ADC/DAC unit of a PC/laptop/tablet based audio system. And also as a wired receiver for portable devices. The sound quality is excellent! The build quality is amazing. Numerous features that can be used either with direct menu buttons or (better) with the RME app for Win/Mac/iPad. Individual parametric equalization of headphones or room configurations with saveable presets is a very useful feature. But there are many more features that you can check out and customize to suit your individual needs. The ability to save settings by profile is very valuable. The only cons I found is that the LED backlight cannot be controlled by any software or menu options. When the device is installed in the bedroom, the bright red LED ring around the power button in standby mode creates too much irritating lighting. And also a non-switchable internal LED backlight with a warm (lamp) glow through the ventilation holes of the case in operating/idling mode. The manufacturer responded that the current hardware layout of the board does not allow controlling the brightness/on/off of the LEDs. I think this design flaw can be addressed in future developments, either by reworking the board or upgrading the model. At least, make each LED RGB style so the color/hue can be customized, and create options to turn them on/off based on events/schedules via menu/app settings.

[1 RU] Black Lion has done it again by making a great little preamp. I've owned Black Lion's more expensive 4-channel B173 preamp before, but I like this Auteur MKIII even more than that one because it's simpler to use and sounds just as great. Its black color and wonderful design is great to look at, too -- very beautiful. I'm very happy with this purchase.

[AD/DA Converter] I am a union voice actor and have for the past 12 years, used the Audient family when it came to interface choice. I looked for a long time for a change. Nothing wrong with Audient, all the contrary. But, I got bored and looked at too many reviews and videos. I finally decided to go with the BL 2x2 regardless of what a couple of people on YouTube said about the noise floor. I cannot tell you how glad I am that I bought this. My audient was super quiet and flat, but that's it. It's on par with the majority of interfaces in the price range and does the job fine.

This interface, however, takes to a whole other level. It has the same sound as when I step into a multi-million dollar L.A. studio to do a gig. Now, yes, on the wave file on Adobe Audition I can see some noise. But, it doesn't come out at all on the recordings. None! It has got me twice the amount of work that I had with Audient, and at the end of the day, that's what counts for me.

Such an amazing interface, and the sound, wow!!! The quality of the build far exceeds that of many that I have used in the past as well. I would dare say that this can go up against ANY interface out there in a professional studio and it will be an incredible asset to any voice-over talent looking to up their game.
