This 2-stop, 95mm Tilta Illusion Full-Spectrum ND Filter 95mm 2-Stopfrom Tilta Illusion Full-Spectrum ND Filter 95mm 2-Stopis a waterproof, oil-resistant, and scratch-resistant nano-coated filter designed for the circular 95mm standard of the Tilta Mirage matte box. As a full-spectrum ND filter, it evenly reduces all wavelengths of light, including visible, ultraviolet, and infrared light. The filter is built to uniformly reduce the levels in the light spectrum without significantly affecting the color. The overall spectral curve remains consistent, and light intensity for various colors is proportionally diminished and does not result in color bias.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. is there any possible way to change this matte box from rod-attached to a clip-on, attached directly to the lens safely?

A: I have used my MB-T03 as a clamp on to 144mm diameter lenses. You can take the swing away rail mount attachment off with Allen keys. Just don't loose the screws if you want to reattach the rail mount!

Q: 2. if adding two filters will both be rotatable?

A: The Tilta Mirage can rotate filters with the Tilta VND module. On its own, the Tilta Dual Circular Filter Tray for Mirage Matte Box (95mm), would not be rotatable with the Tilta Mirage.

Q: 3. What would be a good protective filter pouch to house 3-4 filter trays with filters?

A: Consider the NiSi Caddy for S5 Filter Holder and Seven 150 x 150mm or 150 x 170mm Filters for the Tilta Dual Circular Filter Tray for Mirage Matte Box (95mm). See the link below: https://bhpho.to/2Svo68V

Q: 4. Hi, Are there one or two rotating filter stages ? The description above says two but online reviews state there is only one... is this a newer model/design ?

A: there is one that rotates and the other is stationary

Q: 5. Will this system work with a Zeiss Cp2 lenses?

A: No. This matte box can only take diameters up to 100mm, but the CP2 lenses are 114mm.

Q: 6. How wide can you be (on S35 or FF) with a 4x4 mattebox? 4x5.65 is industry standard, so how is this in comparison?

A: In doing a bit of research, it looks like a 10mm in the Super 35 format is about the maximum you can go with a 4x4 matte box but testing your combination of format, lenses, and matte box is really the best way to find the answer to this.

Q: 7. Does the top flag tilt down all the way to cover the front glass when transporting?

A: yes it will close down

Q: 8. What is the thickness tolerance of filters that can be inserted into each slot?

A: The only filters that would work with this adapter are 95mm filters from Vaxis. Vaxis 95mm filters for the Tilta Mirage Matte Box: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?q=Vaxis%2095mm&sts=ma

Q: 9. Assuming the use of both a variable nd along with an effects filter like one of the pure mist grades, can the variable ND still be adjusted electronically? What additional accessories would be needed if any, in addition to the tilta mirage motorized vnd kit?

A: The Tilta Mirage with VND kit is a modular system. You can add filters on as needed and maintain the ability to adjust the VND with remote control.

Q: 10. Can i use 4mm thick filters ?

A: Yes, this will accept 4 x 4" Filters that are 4mm thick.

[Solid ND] Works like advertised. Full spectrum ND's are the way to go. I use this with my BMPCC 4K, it needs IR cut.

[Solid ND] These filters get the job done and prevent any IR contamination. There is a slight shift in color which can easily be corrected in post or in-camera. Many cinematographers use this. This will not work on the Red Camera sensors - they need a hot mirror as well. So keep that in mind. I hear these range of IR filters are the best choice for Alexa, as these filters do the least amount of damage to the skin tones.

[Glass] The advantage of that is variable intensity is that you can check the different effects you want. Personally I like an exposure time of 5 seconds for the water.

[0.195 lb] I was debating which set of glass to go with and decided on Schneider rather than NiSi; I have a few friends who said Schneider was/is the industry standard.

So far I can’t disagree. The glass itself is solid and doesn’t add any noticeable color to the image when shooting.

I chose the 0.9 (3-stops) as my all-purpose glass since it allows me to consistently shoot wide open in a variety of environments with my Sigma 18-35mm on my Pocket 6K. So far so good.

[Glass] Good glass is expensive but these will outlive you if you don't break them.

[Solid ND] Pros: There isn't any color shift with RHOdium ND filters.

Cons: Very expensive

Outcome: I will never use another type of ND again. Doesn't matter the grade. Also, I never thought I would be a neutral density fan boy. Now I am because these are just way too good.

[0.195 lb] I’m building my kit up and went back and forth about buying the 7 stop filter. I’m currently shooting a lot of buildings for a project and need to cut a lot of light. Previously Ive used Tiffens, and there’s nothing wrong with them, but blacks in the image are a lot cleaner. After using this filter for few weeks I’m glad it’s in my kit

[Glass] Use these amazing Full spectrum NDs with my RED GEMINI and you can see the difference when compared to cheaper ND, variable NDs and other premium NDs. Build quality is amazing. These are not dyed NDs so the colour cast is non existent. Invest in the best and you will save time and money in the long run.
