The Blonder Tongue RMDA 86A-30 RF Distribution Amplifierfrom Blonder Tongue RMDA 86A-30 RF Distribution Amplifieris a two-way broadband distribution amplifier that utilizes push-pull hybrid technology with two forward and one return channel hybrids. It is designed to serve as a distribution amplifier in MATV, SMATV, or CATV applications, or to use as a headend launch amplifier. It features 32 dB of gain forward and 22 dB active gain on the return. It boasts a forward frequency range of 54 to 860 MHz and a return range of 5 to 40 MHz. The return path is field configurable for either active or passive operation.

The RMDA 86A-30 has built-in variable gain controls on both the forward and return paths. A forward path variable slope control is provided inter-stage as is the variable gain control. Additionally, a fixed forward equalizer and forward and reverse attenuator plug-ins can be installed for further signal conditioning at the input. 30 dB back-matched test ports are provided for monitoring both forward and reverse signal levels without interrupting service.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this unit be used to amplify over the air TV signals?

A: The BIDE 550-50 is designed specifically for CATV (Cable TV) and SMATV (Satelite TV) signal distribution systems which use a cable drop as a signal source. It may not work with Over The Air systems, please email us directly provideo@bhphoto.com so we can better assist you in finding the correct product.

Q: 2. This Kramer claims to boost HDMI signal to increase cable length. To what length? From reviewer comments it seems the cable can additively play a part in boost distance (ie boosted distance + cable capability = total distance).

A: Absolutely. I would not consider a DA a booster but only a DA. For installation I would install the DA as close to the source as possible, no more than a 6' cable and then no more than 50' cable on each output. It is very important to use use high quality cables with any HDMI installation. If you need to go further consider using a twisted pair Rx/Tx setup for best results.

Q: 3. Is it rack mountable?

A: If you use a rack mount shelf to set it on.

Q: 4. how do you adjust the amps so you get good signal, but produce less heat?

A: This unit does give you the ability to adjust the gain and slope to the proper settings for your situation. Blonder Tongue also sells optional plug-in fixed attenuator and equalizers for input signal conditioning, which you can purchase from them: http://bit.ly/1iV8xC4

Q: 5. output 2 blinks?

A: The #2 output blinks when called upon.

Q: 6. The weight of the unit and the weight of the package is contradicting. The weight of the unit, as listed, appears to be too high. What is the actual weight please?

A: The weight of the PreSonus HP4 - 4-Channel Headphone Distribution Amplifier is 5 pounds.

Q: 7. Is this rack mountable? Does it come with the L shaped brackets?

A: The Gefen EXT-DVI-144N 1:4 Distribution Amplifier is rack mountable and it comes with Rack Ears (EXT-RACK-19-GRY) in the box.

Q: 8. It seems like this would work with a laptop. One output going to a video switcher and the second to a projector. Has anyone tried the Kramer DA in this type of workflow? Thanks!

A: Yes, this will work for that set up.

Q: 9. Can you please let me know, whether the connectors present on the DVI splitter box are compatible with DVI-I cables or not ? In the specifications, connectors are mentioned as DVI-D but physical appearance of the connectors seems DVI-I cable compatible. I just have to reuse available DVI-I cables with this DVI Splitter. Thanks

A: This amplifier supports Single Link DVI resolutions up to 1920x1200, and dual-link resolutions of up to 3840x2400.

Q: 10. is there a passive return module for BIDA 550-50?

A: For passive return you would need to add a diplexer.

[25 x 9.2 x 3.2"] I was looking for an audio da with XLR connections. This was exactly what I needed, and it's reasonably priced. One thing--this da has audio pots on the front. I found that in the detent position, the audio was a bit overdriven, so I just backed down all the pots to about 10 o'clock and it's perfect.

[7.6 lb] Kramer is our go to long run HDMI distribution amp. They always work when other brands don't.

[6 lb / 2.7 kg] I have trusted Kramer products for years. This one just gives me another reason to continue to use them. Very easy to install and works great.

[25 x 9.2 x 3.2"] I bought this to replace a dying switch. It is everything I hoped it would be. It solved three separate troubles we had with power switching on end devices. Device on or off caused Mac to loose its display config. The switch blocks the signal with EDID. Will definitely consider Kramer for future needs.

[25 x 9.2 x 3.2"] This pushes HDMI signal just right for me. Had two 100' runs for this to 2 monitors with no artifacts or loss of color or clarity. It had a 100' run from the switcher so 200' no issues. Perfect little box and man are they pricey though for 1x2.

[Push-pull] This is a very simple 1x2 DA that gets the job done. No muss, no fuss. Using it to distribute PGM out from a small HDMI switcher, and it works just fine.

[6 lb / 2.7 kg] This unit is truly plug and play. I am using this in a medium sized conference room to split video between two Epson 1080p projectors. One run is going 90' using 60' & 30' Redmere cables with a coupler. The other is going 50' with a Redmere cable. Inline before this unit I have a 4 way HDMI auto switch that goes to wall HDMI plugs for source selection. So, the signal is passing through multiple long HDMI cables (all Redmere) and couplers before it gets to this unit. I had tried a cheap $ HDMI splitter which didn't have the power to pass both signals. This unit has the power and just works.

[1 RU] I used for a first time during E3 2018, the fact that we could use one unit for 2 X 4 Players really help our audio distribution.
