Bring new life to your existing vinyl collection with the NAD Electronics C 588 Manual Two-Speed Belt-Drive Turntable. NAD is well known for innovative, high-performance, yet affordable turntables. Designed to play records, purely and simply, the C 588 is constructed from high-quality parts, precisely engineered to work together in harmony.

Striking that balance of quality and value, the C 588 combines a glass platter and solid MDF plinth with an isolated precision AC motor for accurate and consistent rotation. The 9" carbon fiber tonearm allows for vertical and horizontal balance adjustment to improve precision and reduce wear. A fixed headshell comes preinstalled with the Ortofon 2M Red cartridge, which is well regarded for excellent tracking, transparency, and bright tone. The RCA phono level output will need to be connected to a phono preamp and a high-quality RCA cable with separate ground is included to make the connection.

Having exact pitch (speed) is important, but human hearing is much more sensitive to momentary changes in speed which, in turntable parlance, are expressed with the terms Wow and Flutter.

As its name sounds, Wow is a slow cyclical speed variation. The most severe example is the sound of a severely warped record, where the stylus travels faster on the rising side of the warp and slower on the descending side, causing abrupt changes in musical pitch. Flutter is what we call very fast and small variations that are usually generated by the motor.

The C 588 addresses both of these problems with proven and effective solutions. A specialized, high-precision, synchronous clock motor is both very smooth and accurate, especially when driven from a stable AC voltage. To ensure a clean and stable AC voltage, NAD isolates the AC Mains by first converting it to a clean DC voltage, and then electronically generating the precise AC frequency to regulate the synchronous motor. Using a specially formulated belt to drive the platter further filters and isolates any remaining vibration. All rotating parts are made from aluminum alloy machined to very tight tolerances to eliminate any eccentricity or vibration in the drive system.

The C 588 features a custom designed carbon fiber tonearm shaft with a fixed metal headshell and features a decoupled counterweight and magnetic anti-skate compensation. An Ortofon 2M Red cartridge is factory installed and offers superb tracking and a full range sound. The C 588 uses a longer than usual 9” tonearm to optimize overhang and reduce the tracking angle error. To perfectly align the stylus NAD includes adjustments for azimuth and vertical tracking angle, and include a gauge to calibrate the alignment.

Reducing all spurious vibrations to a minimum is critical to getting the best result when playing vinyl. Since these vibrations can come from various sources, both internal and external, the materials and dimensions must all be carefully calculated to reduce and balance all resonances in order to prevent a buildup of energy at particular frequencies. To isolate external vibrations from the loudspeakers or footfalls bouncing the floor, NAD use a massive MDF base with specially tuned vibration damping feet, along with a thick non-resonant dust cover. The choice of glass platter, felt pad, MDF base, and carbon fiber tonearm, were carefully considered to work together to limit and reduce spurious vibration.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. How long is the RCA cord?

A: The RCA cable included with the Dual Electronics CS 329 is about 10 feet.

Q: 2. Does this include a dust cover, or what is the recommended dust cover?

A: This model does not include a dust cover. Unfortunately, Marantz does not make a dust cover for it. We do not sell universal dust covers, but they are available on specialty websites, although mostly of the opaque cloth cover variety.

Q: 3. Does this have automatic shut off and arm lifting at the end of the record? And what exactly is meant by "auto-start" in the description?

A: Per the owner's guide: EASY TO USE 1. Connect the AC power supply to the household outlet. 2. Rotate the OFF / 33/45 knob to turn on the unit and Select the speed according to the record you are playing. 3. Put a record on the turntable. Remember to use the 45 RPM adaptor located on the top right corner when playing a 45 RPM record. 4. Lift and move the tone arm to turntable. Place the tone arm on the edge of the record and the record starts playing. 5. Assemble the balance weight and set it to a proper position. NOTE: The balance weight is to adjust the pressure of the needle. If the pressure is too much, the sound will become distorted; if the pressure is too little, track skipping will easily happen. Please adjust the balance weight by turning the balance weight clockwise or counter-clockwise. 6. To pause or stop playing, you need to lift and move the tone arm back to the tone arm rest manually. 7. When the end of the record is reached, the tone arm and rotation stop. Lift the tone arm and place it to tone arm rest manually. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/607720.pdf

Q: 4. Are the feet adjustable?

A: No

Q: 5. Hi, I've got a Yamaha TSR-7850. Will this TT output to that receiver without physical cabling?

A: This Turntable does provide Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity. It does NOT have Bluetooth. Not sure what the Yamaha TSR-7850 provides. Is it a nework receiver?

Q: 6. I'm tight on surface space. Can you supply the L and W dimensions not of the whole unit but just of the outside of the feet?

A: This information is not specified by the manufacturer.

Q: 7. Do carry belts for this model for future replacements?

A: Unfortunately we do not carry the replacement 'Belts' for Dual Electronics Turntables. The best I can advise would be to reach out to the Manufacturer to provide a replacement.

Q: 8. I've got a Yamaha TSR-7850 receiver, will this turntable output music to the receiver for playback over the speakers without being physically cabled to it?

A: Absolutely! Wireless Transmission: Adding a modern spin to an "old-school" medium, you can wirelessly connect the MusicCast VINYL 500 turntable to your MusicCast speakers, receiver, or other devices to enjoy your record collection without cables.

Q: 9. Is the battery replaceable once it stops holding a charge?

A: Yes the battery in the Audio-Technica Sound Burger is replaceable.

Q: 10. Does this allow saving in 24bit or Hi-Fi format?

A: This turntable features typical analog line or phono outputs, as well as modern hook up options, such as Bluetooth input and wireless output through Yamahas' MusicCast app to their wireless speakers. This is not a USB turntable for digitizing vinyl, so no files are saved. You can connect the RCA outputs to an audio interface, such as the Behringer UFO202 - USB 1.1 Digital Audio Interface, BH #BEUFO202, and digitize your records with software, and make them in a file type of higher resolution than mP3.

[15 VDC at 0.8 A] The AT-LPW50PB is my original pick before we notice LP5X, choosing direct drive or belt drive is always a debate. Glad that B&H is short of their stock on LP5X, it makes me a lot easier to go with LPW50PB, lol.

The straight carbon-fiber tonearm is amazing, at least feeds my aesthetics. The black piano finishing surface is nice and clean. The overall looking is undoubtedly firm and gorgeous.

Talk about the operation and sound. Even though it's a fully manual TT, the initial calibration and play are super easy. It always makes me feel good to make my music by hand. The sound is perfect to me (I accompany the TT with a Marshall Stanmore II).

The service of B&H is top-notch, the online order pick-up only takes a couple of minutes. Glad they have a free parking lot for customers!

[15 VDC at 0.8 A] Back to vinyl after 40 years. I assembled it, turned it on and it worked. Two weeks later, it still works without problems. But, the assembly directions?!? Having not touched a record player since 1985, I needed friendlier printed directions to get the thing put together. Youtube videos did the trick.

[Black] This was an upgrade from a less expensive Audio Technica turntable that I've had for a few years. It's beautiful to look at and sounds great too. Very easy to set up and was shipped quickly from B&H.

[Black] Smooth silent operation. Platter turns without flutter wow and rumble through signal transfer from stylus to loudspeakers. No noise no rumble. That is important to me. My Yamaha integrated amp maximizes the silent signal delivery.v
