  • Massive wavetable library and shaping features for completely unique sounds
  • Physics-based KAOSS modulation delivers nonstatic, evolving modulations
  • Motion Sequencing 2.0 provides new levels of control over recording and editing phrases, along with fantastic randomization to spur more ideas
  • Over 200 wavetables to explore with up to 64 waveforms each—more than any wavetable synth—and over 230 million wavetable variations via modwave's modifier and morph features
  • Gigabytes of samples onboard blend with wavetables for even more possibilities
  • Two-oscillator structure
  • Two-part multitimbral with key zoning for splitting/layering
  • 60-note polyphony
  • Sequencing with timing, pitch, shape, variable loop points, randomization, and more
  • Dual arpeggiators
  • Three effects per layer, master EQ, and reverb
  • Free software bundle, downloadable free editor

  • With over 200 wavetables, each containing up to 64 waveforms—from thousands of individual waves, the modwave synthesizer is deep. Use the 30+ Modifiers to change their basic character, and the 13 Morph Types to process them in real-time. Create new hybrids from any two wavetables using the unique, realtime A/B Blend. Quick math: that's over 230 million wavetable variations out of the box, and that’s before you even add modulation.
  • Expand your palette even more by importing new wavetables using the Editor/Librarian software. Try the many free and commercial wavetable libraries in the standard Serum format, or create your own using the free cross-platform WaveEdit, available in a custom version for the modwave. Layer wavetables with samples from the built-in, multigigabyte PCM library, or import up to 4GB of your own samples using Korg’s Sample Builder software.
  • Each Program has two full-featured wavetable oscillators, a sub oscillator/noise generator, and any of a dozen stereo filter types, including the aggressive MS-20, sweet Polysix, and the newly enhanced Multi Filter. Animate almost any parameter using the massively flexible modulation system, with four triggerable envelopes, five LFOs, dual mod processors, and two key-track generators—plus multilane Motion Sequencing and Kaoss Physics.
  • Even with all that synthesis power, playing up to four simultaneous wavetables per voice in a single Program, the modwave mkII achieves 60-voice polyphony, incredible for a wavetable synth. Layer two Programs together for double the possibilities.

  • Kaoss Physics models a ball rolling on a surface and bouncing off of walls. The surface can tilt in any direction. A bump with variable height/depth and location attracts or repels the ball. Adjustable friction slows the ball's travel, and adjustable time controls the speed of the entire model. All of these characteristics are modulatable, so you can change them in real time.
  • Start the ball by flicking a finger on the x/y pad, or launch the ball automatically using another modulation source. You can also directly control the ball by holding your finger on the pad. The position of the ball produces eight modulation signals, which can be used to control any modulation destination: the X and Y locations, the distance from the center, the angle relative to the X axis, and finally separate signals for +/- X and +/- Y.
  • Walls can slow down the ball, as if they were padded, or accelerate the ball, like bumpers in a pinball machine. The walls can also be removed entirely, so that the surface wraps around to the opposite edges like a vintage arcade game.
  • The modeled environment can create specific modulation effects. For instance, use a centered bump with negative height, so the modulation values always eventually return to 0. Or, position a bump with positive height on a side or a corner, to push modulation values away from that zone.
  • The result is an interactive controller that amplifies your physical gestures, transforming them into complex musical results.

  • Motion Sequencing 2.0 is evolved from the Wavestate’s Wave Sequencing 2.0. Timing, Pitch, Shape, and four sets of Step Sequence values are separated into Lanes, each with its own loop start and loop end, adding a deeper, more customizable level of phrase and modulation recording.
  • Every time the sequence moves forward, the individual Lanes are combined to create the output. For instance, a step sequence value may be matched with a different duration, pitch, and shape every time that it plays. You can modulate each Lane’s loop points separately for every note, using velocity, LFOs, envelopes, Mod Knobs, or other controllers. Each note in a chord can be playing something different!
  • Lanes can also randomize the step order every time they play. Finally, individual steps can be randomly skipped, with a modulatable probability from 0 to 100%. The result is organic, ever-changing sounds that respond to your control. The dual onboard arpeggiators can interact with Motion Sequences for even more possibilities.

  • Wavetables are sets of single-cycle digital waveforms arranged in a specific order. The wavetable's Position determines which waveform is played. Moving the Position with an envelope, LFO, or other modulation source creates subtle or dramatic changes in timbre. Some wavetable systems switch abruptly from one waveform to another; others crossfade smoothly between them. The modwave can do either one.
  • Modifiers: Use over 30 Modifiers to alter the character of any wavetable at load time. For instance, isolate the odd or even harmonics, add weight through anti-aliased quantization or saturation, or revisit the gritty character of old-school wavetable synths with the Vintage 8 and 12 options.
  • Morph: The 13 Morph Types let you stretch, squeeze, reflect, and otherwise alter the wavetables in real time, changing their timbre and creating additional motion in the sound when modulated. Sync creates classic swept-sync timbres, using only a single oscillator. Three special Morph Types—FM, AM, and Ring Mod—modulate Osc 2 with Osc 1, and even apply to samples.
  • A/B Blend: Using the unique A/B mode, oscillators can blend any two wavetables with phase-synchronous precision—different from simply layering voices—opening up a dimension of intermediate waveforms. Add body to otherwise thin waveforms for instance, or add a touch of sizzle to a mellow timbre. Even fade between two different Modifier versions of the same wavetable. A/B Blend can be modulated in real time.

Wavetables also sound great when layered with samples, and the modwave oscillators handle that with aplomb. Totaling in the gigabytes, the modwave’s sample library includes new material from KORG, Airwave, and Francis Preve, plus a bank from Plugin Guru and a selection from the Kronos and Krome libraries.

  • Add vintage character to your sounds with the aggressive MS-20 Lowpass or Highpass filters, or the strong, sweet Polysix Lowpass—all newly enhanced with gain controls to make it easier to dial in the resonance timbre. Shape and refine with a full collection of resonant 2-pole and 4-pole low-pass, high-pass, bandpass, and band reject filters. Or, step outside the box with Korg's unique Multi-Filter, which creates modulatable blends of multiple modes simultaneously—now with presets on a front panel knob for easier exploration of its many possibilities.

  • Bursting with knobs and controllers, the modwave invites you to explore. Oscillators, filter, envelopes, LFOs, and effects are all at your fingertips with dedicated front-panel controls. Four programmable Mod Knobs are customized to bring out the most in every sound. Use the knobs performing in real time and also save the results as new sounds. The Hold button lets you sustain notes or chords indefinitely, while you explore the front-panel controls or play other gear.
  • Add in KAOSS Physics and the pitch-bend and modulation wheel for multiple dimensions of realtime expression.
  • Almost all front-panel knobs and most onscreen parameters can be modulated. You can even modulate settings for individual Motion Sequence steps. Mod Processors let you transform modulation signals using quantization, smoothing, curvature, and more.

The modwave’s superb effects deliver production-ready sounds. Each Layer has three dedicated effects, plus a send to the Performance's master reverb, followed by a master parametric EQ. Along with standards such as compressors, EQs, choruses, flangers, phasers, and stereo delays, you’ll find distinctive processors such as the Wave Shaper, Talking Modulator, Reverse Delay, Multiband Mod Delay, and Overb (from the OASYS and Kronos), plus modeled effects including VOX guitar amps, VOX wah, multihead tape echo, and a collection of classic guitar pedals.

A dedicated front-panel button, marked by a dice icon generates new sounds via intelligent randomization. Randomize the entire sound or just a part of it, such as the oscillators, filter, or effects. Use the results directly or as a jumping-off point for your own creations.

Set Lists offer effortless organization of your wavestate Performances, and deliver instant access at the gig or in rehearsal. Smooth Sound Transitions allow previously played voices and effects to continue to ring out naturally, even after a new sound has been selected.

The modwave comes with a diverse collection of music software to help you take your music to the next level, including Reason Lite for song creation, Izotope's Ozone Elements for AI-powered mastering, Skoove for improving your keyboard playing skills, and software synths from KORG and other brands.

The modwave Editor/Librarian lets you edit and organize sounds via your macOS or Windows computer (including the latest Apple Mx-based systems). Using USB networking for high-speed communication, it works like a second front panel for the instrument, so there's no need to synchronize or transfer data. Animations show the effects of modulation in real-time—a great help when programming.

I intend to use this device for video interviews with the following kit: 1) Nikon Z6II camera feeding video via HDMI into Atomos Ninja V; 2) Tentacle Sync-E with Lavalier mic on subject; 3) Zoom F3 with shotgun mic near subject (not connected to camera or Ninja V). How many of these TC generators would I need? I'm thinking one to sync-jam the Tentacle-E recorder, which would then be connected to the Ninja V while shooting, and one connected to the Zoom F3 (not sure if that recorder will actually accept TC?). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

A: Two sounds correct. One Tentacle Sync E mkII Timecode Generator with Bluetooth 5.0 (Single Set) synced with the Zoom F3 which is capturing audio, and one for the NInja V which is capturing video. You can use the Tentacle Sync E mkII with the Ninja V by routing it into the mic/line input. Make sure that the Ninja is set to intake audio from the mic/line port, and then use post production software to sync.

I'm digging the virtual analog just as much as my analog OB-X8. Honestly, this may be the only synth you ever need?

Got it in one day from B&H at a good price too.

[5 W] Been waiting for so long to get my hands on one of these! Ever since I opened the box I've been in love. For the price point you can't beat it. I've been using the Korg R3 for about 5 years and a Roland SH-32 for about a year, this is a perfect addition to my setup! If you're in the market for an analog synth.. BUY THIS ONE!

[1x 1/4" Sustain] Can't recommend Decksavers enough. Custom fitted and well constructed, keeps my keyboard dust-free and safe from accidents while not in use. If I had one minor gripe, I wish the fit was a little more snug. I worry this might fall off if I were to use it as the only protection while transporting the instrument, but that's not really its intended purpose so I can't dock a star for that.

[1x 1/4" Sustain] I've had this synthesizer for a little less than a year now, but have owned the original Microkorg since 2010 or so. Man! This thing is pumped with all the improvements you wish you had in the original Minikorg! The Speaker ultimately made this synth a must have for me, and it's really solidified my opinion on how great it is! I no longer have to unpack my amp, or configure a chain of signal routing just to get a sound from my Microkorg. This thing allows me to turn it on, and jam out in the open air. No headphones, or amps required. The New sound bank is cool, but not really anything to ditch your old Korg for. What's impactful is the D-bank of empty patches, that you can sculpt and save for. Now I'm no longer deleting factory presets when I create a cool sound. The vocoder is nice, and upgraded with 8 new Vocoder patches. The one we all want (A Dry Input) has now been installed, as well as a few robot voices, and sound that aren't so cheap. The color is kinda bland, but a few sticks never hurt anybody. The LED colors have been modified as well, in a better way. If you've never owned a Microkorg and have always thought about buying one, I HIGHLY recommend you get this! It's a GREAT started toy into synthesis, and when you really get into the bare bones of sculpting waveforms in the menus, you'll find you can do so much with this synth.

[5 W] The minilogue is a full fledged 4 voice polyphonic analog synth with 1 LFO. You can save patches (200) and the oscilloscope is helpful for patch building. When recalling patches, there are several options for the knobs too-- the default is to 'jump' to the value that the knob is turned to, but there is also a 'catch' option that won't change the parameter until you move the knob to where it was in the saved patch-- this is very helpful for live performance to ensure smooth parameter transitions! I have been using in both studio and live setting. Overall a surprisingly well made and feature-full analog synth... hard to believe korg packed everything in at such a low pricepoint for analog polys!

[5 W] The Minilogue is a really fun to use synthesizer, with an immediate interface to tweak and a great sound, while also affordable. At first I wasn't so sure about its sound, but had a test drive and it really impressed me (all 3 times in consecutive days). Even as an affordable synth, it has its own thing and can sound amazing. Been using it mostly for pad and keyboard(ish) bell sounds, and it is great at it. Throw in an external delay pedal and you're good for days. Sound-wise, it doesn't have the aggressively low end you find on other synths, but it is very good at mid-range. I love the filter tonality, and while not the most versatile beast, it is certainly capable of doing some impressive things. The hardware is also very well made for what you pay... good metallic plate on top, mini-keys that are way better than traditional ones, all necessary tools for customizing simple and complex sounds (although limited in terms of modulations), nice knobs and switches, ideal size (love this small footprint). There's a single thing I don't enjoy much: the pitch bend lever. I'd rather have a single modulation one... this aside, an amazing little synth.

[Yes] Excellent quick service from B&H! Very pleased with the overall construction of the Argon8X- especially the high quality 61 note keyboard which will now also serve as my primary MIDI keyboard. Great exciting sounds which are quite easy to edit, if desired. In the short time I have had with it, I would agree that the Argon8 is very well suited for pads and leads. The MODAL app is excellent and makes it easy to manage the presets and load some of the many great patches Modal has available. I already have my iPad stationed on the right side to access patches and edit control parameters. I like the fact that Modal shows commitment to the customer by making system updates and producing tutorial videos on a very regular basis. That makes me comfortable that I will be able to depend on the Argon8X for many years.
