Q: 5. Is this an exact same product as the Samyang 85mm f1.8 ED UMC CS, apart from the branding? I kept reading some very good reviews on that lens and would really like to add that to my aps-c portrait arsenal but this shows up as a Rokinon instead. Your clarification is much appreciated. Thank you so much.

[+/- 8° Tilt] It's small, features a hot shoe mount, and testing it against 3 other light meters I trust it very well calibrated out of the box. BTW charging time with a 2 amp wall wart via USB-C is about 40 minutes. However you will want to put on some readers and actually read the instruction manual because the controls are not intuitive.

[Full-Frame] Works very well for getting into tight spaces. The lens is fairly sharp - not the sharpest, but offers good value in terms of probe lenses.

F40 requires a ton of light. You'll also want a motorized rig of sorts for any movement as the macro lens is very sensitive to small bumps.

All in all - good value compared to the Laowa. Only down side is it an APS-C lens, so you'll get some crop when on a full frame lens.

[12] I'm new to macro photography. I started using extension tubes. Soon I wanted a real macro lens so can also photograph things that aren't close. This is a great lens at a decent price. I don't mind manual focus because with macro you shouldn't rely on autofocus anyway. The lens is heavy and well built. The focus ring turns very smooth.

[f/2.8] It works well with my Nikon D500 and Sony a6300 (with an adapter). It has focus confirmation on D500, which is helpful. With focus peaking, it is very easy to use the lens with a6300. The lens is not only good for macro photography but also suitable for portrait shooting as well.

[f/2.8] Manual focus and tripod are the prerequisites for macro photography. This lens completely corresponds to them. It has good optical characteristics. It is characterized by high quality materials and accurate assembly. It is convenient in work. High quality with a loyal price.

[55 mm (Front)] Completed my Rokinon prime set with this one. Used it for a shoot this weekend. Seems pretty sharp. Nice image. feels really solid too. Haven't had time to pixel peep but so far so good, and a nice savings vs the Canon L series macro.

[Full-Frame] I had tried simpler Lensbaby lenses but never really liked the basic ones because they were too fidgety. I suppose the composer pro might have improved results, but this is a far superior product for roughly the same money.

[85mm] This was love at first sight. A fantastic lens that solves my tasks. If I were to describe how lenses work, I can only say: turn ordinary binoculars and look through them. Shows a wide-angle picture with options for taking Micro pictures.
With best regards. Karl A. Allan

[Full-Frame] Sharp, very little vignetting, simple to use, and Fun! Set camera to shoot without lens & Aperture Priority. Focus (use visual focus aid if you want), use auto ISO or manual ISO. I use the AstrHori 27mm f2.8 on a Fuji X-A1. I view the pictures via HDMI on a large screen TV.
Use the above settings, and you can easily concentrate on the Subject & the Composition. Set aspect to 3:1, or to 1:1 for Fun!

[55 mm (Front)] I didn't buy this lens for its quality optics or its sexy looks, I bought it for a creative project I'm shooting in black-and-white square format. The 1:1 crop factor moots any minor issues with edge sharpness and vignetting. The pancake design makes it easy to carry around and unobtrusive in public places. Manual focus is required, but practically everything is in focus when set to infinity. I'm using it paired with my Fujifilm X-T5 and the results are stunning. The absurdity of putting a $90 lens on a $1,700 camera and making art is very satisfying, indeed!
