$1,197.00 $1,520.19

The Moog Theremini Synthesizeris designed for practice, studio recording, and live performance. The instrument is played without physical contact by using hand gestures to change volume and pitch by controlling the distance to the device's antennas.

To assist in learning to play the instrument, the Theremini features a built-in tuner that allows you to see what note you are playing and whether the note is sharp, flat, or in tune. A 0 to 100% assistive pitch correction knob allows you to adjust the playing difficulty level of the device by automatically keeping the sound in pitch to a user-defined scale or root note. At 100%, the assistive pitch correction will make it impossible to play a wrong note. At 0%, no pitch correction will be applied. The tuner and assistive pitch correction functions can be used in conjunction to educate the performer on the range of the instrument and develop proper playing technique.

Additional controls include a preset knob that provides 32 wavetable-based sounds, root and scale buttons for selecting a scale and root note, controls for setting and recalling a playing range, and a variable stereo ping-pong delay for individual presets.

For listening, the unit includes a front-panel 1/8" stereo headphone jack with a volume control, as well as a built-in speaker that is muted when the headphone jack is engaged. Two 1/4" audio outputs enable connection to an audio interface, mixer, or other equipment for studio recording or live performance. A single-pitch CV output with selectable range enables external connection to a sequencer or synthesizer using a control voltage signal, and a mini-USB port allows the device to communicate with other devices over MIDI.

The unit's pitch antenna can be removed and placed in a built-in storage compartment on the bottom of the device. Integrated rubberized feet prevent the unit from slipping on the playing surface, and a built-in 3/8" microphone stand connector allows you to put the instrument on a stand. Alternatively, you can use the included camera stand adaptor for placing the unit on a tripod. An amplifier, case, and stand are available and sold separately.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. This is the "instrument" that David Bowie used on his "Space Oddity" album. In the Showtime documentary film "David Bowie ~ Finding Fame" they talk about it. He was the 1st and probably the last one to do so. I mean .. how many Stylophone players are there? Lol

A: That is an interesting observation, and you are correct, not too many Stylophonists out there these days. But, small synths like this and the Teenage Engineering instruments are back in vogue.

Q: 2. does this come with any patch cords?

A: This device does include 8 patch cables.

Q: 3. Can the Keyboard sequence drum kits?

A: Yes, Roland JUNO-DS88 Synthesizer has an eight-track pattern sequencer to capture and develop ideas for songs or beats.

Q: 4. Does the MOOG Theremini ship with current (1.1.1) firmware?

A: Yes the insert in the manual says 1.1.1

Q: 5. When will the product start shipping?

A: We are expecting this item to ship beginning mid-January 2016.

Q: 6. Is Moog Ep3 pedal compatible with roland FantomX?

A: Should work just fine. It's a great expression pedal, with a smooth, even range. A real upgrade over my Yamaha pedal. Plastic but solid. Non-slip base. Removal 1/4 cable - a big plus too. Works with my Kurzweil, Yamaha and other boards. Best $40 pedal out there, get it immediately!

Q: 7. What accessories are needed to record and also to use while performing? Buying this for my son and I read all the reviews, but don't understand what folks are recommending. I appreciate any help. Thanks, Kate

A: The Moog Theremini has a built in speaker that can be heard in the room and for practicing. It also has a headphone output. For connecting to a practice amplifier, or mixer for performing, or an audio interface for recording, it also has a left and right line output on the back. So you can use B&H # KOI3010 to connect it to either of those sources.

Q: 8. can this module be powered solely on USB? if possible

A: The Waldorf Blofeld - Desktop Synthesizer requires the included AC power supply and cannot be powered by USB.

Q: 9. Is MGear sustain pedal compatible with this keyboard?

A: The JUNO-DS88 is designed to use with Roland DP style damper pedals, but you can reverse the polarity within the system settings to allow use with any manufacturer's pedal. ----------------------------------------------------We have no references for M-Gear sustain pedals, but this synth is compatible with most sustain pedals from M-Audio, Roland, Auray, Behringer, Korg Quik-Lok, On-Stage, and other 3rd party manufacturer's. We offer a wide selection on the webpage for the Juno synth under the ACCESSORIES tab.

Q: 10. What country was this product made in?

A: According to Waldorf all manufacturing of their products is done in Germany.

[26.5 x 8 x 5.2"] The Theremini is fun, portable and cool. It is a real theremin and offers a real theremin mode. It has pitch correction which can help beginners from sounding like a dying cat being shaken frantically. My musical background helps me find notes very easily as my ear is trained. It offers a classic theremin sound which always reminds me of famous opera soprano Maria Callas. The space age design reminds me of The Day The Earth Stood Still. Years of fun are to be had with this guy to be sure. At half the price of a really nice theremin, this is probably very helpful in determining whether you like to play before upgrading to a high quality, focused theremin experience.

As with anything, there could always be improvements. For example, it offers pitch CV out, but it would be nice to have volume CV out as well. Also, it would have been nice to edit sounds on the unit rather than requiring a software editor. It would also have been nice to change the delay time with a knob than just the preset lengths. And I'm sure that left handed users would like the option to swap the sides of the pitch/volume antennas.

[26.5 x 8 x 5.2"] Shipped as advertised. Great piece of equipment. So much fun to play. The gig bag and stand are key :)

[5.4 lb] The Theremini is a very nice little instrument. With it's 32 presets you get a variety of sounds out of this little instrument unlike a regular Theramin. I'm not a musician but learning how to play this is a challenge but it's also a lot of fun !

[5.4 lb] This is a good value for someone beginning to explore the theremin. You’ll almost certainly want some ¼” patch cords to go into a proper sound system. The 2” built-in speaker is only suitable for confirming operation.

This item was shipped to me in 4 different boxes, even though the entire set could have fit easily into the outer shipping box for the Theremini. That little stand adapter, for instance, came in tiny ziploc bag a 12”x12”x3” box, 99% filled with air pillows. What a completely wasteful and ridiculous shipping choice!

[5.4 lb] Great product and a great package deal.  The mic stand is not great but fine for using with the Theremini.  Arrived quickly with all items packaged perfectly.

[5.4 lb] There are some awesome sounds that can be created with this instrument.  I even laid a few tracks over some Hip Hop beats and it sounded great.  Like any instrument, it takes a bit of practice to get some good sounds out of it.  You can play simple songs with it too.

[26.5 x 8 x 5.2"] Another quality moog instrument. The choice of voices adds to the fun and the capability to choose scale, root note and amount of pitch correction makes it playable out of the box, and allows the player to hone their technique without frustration. Internal speaker makes it fun and available to play without much set up. It could have been housed in a simple box, but instead it is in a spaceship housing that is theremin appropriate. I ordered mine in the winter after seeing reviews from NAMM, and it's been worth the wait.

[5.4 lb] This this is pretty awesome. I wish it had a midi output. That would put it over the top. As it is, I lost interest and now its a paperweight. A really cool one. I'm gambling that I will pick it up again in the future and make better use after regaining interest.

[26.5 x 8 x 5.2"] not only did it come early, it was also well packaged and what a fantastic product! A dream come true no doubt to create music without touching an instrument. A creative challenge and an inspiration to those intimidated by the idea of making music. Another great B&H experience which encourages me to continue further business with them. Already creating my next cart of pro gear. mahalo!
