Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will the newer iPhones work with this and a lighting adapter?

A: It will not work properly. Only one of the two stereo mic capsules will work. If your primary use for this mic is for your iPhone, you are better off with either a Mono mic (such as the Sennheiser MKE400 and similar microphones. If you need stereo, look for a which is designed for the iPhone with a lightning connector on it (Shure and Rode, both have good options)

Q: 2. Will this fit on a SmartLav+?

A: Yes, the Rode Synthetic Mini Fur Windshield for Lavalier Microphones will fit on the Rode SmartLav+ Lavalier Condenser Microphone for Smartphones with TRRS Connections.

Q: 3. Does it have a 3.5 connection? I need a new mic for another brand transmitter?

A: The MINIFUR-LAV by Rode is only a windshield. No mic included. The Rode Lav however which is pictured for reference, features a proprietary connector that allows you to choose the proper connection for a particular transmitter or application. Connectors are available for most popular transmitter brands as well as hardwired XLR and standard 3.5mm. For available connectors see the following link: http://bhpho.to/2aMB6xW

Q: 4. Can i plug the Sennheiser MKE 440 into my Tascam DR-05 Portable Handheld Digital Audio Recorder ?

A: Yes Tuscam DR-05 has 3.5mm mic/line sterio input (unbalanced)For professional work I suggest Tuscam DR-100mkiii which has XLR inputs and Senheiser MKE 440 using Alzo Stereo Microphone XLR Adapter Cord for Pro Camcoders (B&H#AL130). It will produce excellent broadcast quality sound.

Q: 5. Several on camera monitors have a second cold-shoe mount on the side for something like a microphone. Would there be any issue using this microphone sideways?

A: yes. this mic is designed to give to the left speaker what is left of frame and the same with the right. something or someone that is interested b the middle (in front of the camera) will get an extra boost as well as separation from off camera sounds.if you orient the mic as ou mentioned, you'll get sound bouncing off the ground in one speaker and sound from the sky above in the other which will make for a weird stereo image that at the same time adds noise to the dialog that would otherwise not be there.better to use a mono shotgun style mic or find a way to flip this one right side up.

Q: 6. Any tips on storing the MKE1. Because the wire is so thin it can easily get tangled up while storing, even when you are careful. Anyone have best practices they can share for storing?

A: Some microphone manufacturers include a cable reel to help with storage, but nothing sold separately at this time. Once, I did see someone tackle this problem by using the reel from a roll of plumbing tape. It seemed to work surprisingly well.

Q: 7. Dear sir, is the Sennheiser MKE 440 compatible with Canon 60D?

A: If the 60D has a microphone jack, I dont why it wouldnt work

Q: 8. description says this is for Rode lavs -- are these also compatible with other brands?

A: They will fit sennheiser lavs if you remove the inner of two rubber rings. Nice snug fit.

Q: 9. Is it compatible with Sony a1 camera?

A: Yes, the Sennheiser MKE 440 Stereo Shotgun Microphone is compatible with the Sony A1 Mirrorless Camera.

Q: 10. is this suitable for use with the digital avx wireless systems...ie has it been updated to include better shielding as has the MKE2 gold mics?

A: There are known issue with the shielding.

[Black] these are way better than the drugstore moleskin I've been purchasing for the last decade!

[Fur, Foam] I use the Skin to secure a Sanken COS-11D to my talent under their t-shirt. Works perfectly. No noise and very secure. I cut one in half and used the pieces at multiple locations, across the mic and one to secure the cable with a loop.

[0.025 lb] These are necessary in hot weather when lavs won't stick to skin or cloths. Get some for your kit.

[Fur, Foam] I love this new box from Viviana. I have a plethora of different expendables and I can fit all of them in here. My boom op also carries one.

[Black] These are my go to solution for hiding lavs whenever tape or moleskin alone doesn't work. The sticky backsides do not unstick in normal conditions on normal bodies and they're lower in profile than foamies or mini mounts or the bumblebee lav concealer. If you're a sound guy or gal you better have some of these in your kit.
