Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this compatible with the newer versions of the Mix Pre series? I have one, it works well with the Mix Pre 3 v1 but doesn't seem to seat correctly on my Mix Pre 6 II

A: As a better option for the MixPre-6 II, you could use the Sound Devices MX-LMount Battery Sled (B&H # SOMXLMOUNT) which is available in stock.

Q: 2. How long does it last?

A: Thank you for your question. It will depend on size of battery and the amount of channels you are using with phantom power.

Q: 3. Are we able to use 8 iPower rechargeable lipo batteries with this sled?

A: It is not recommended to use rechargeable lithium batteries with a Mixpre series recorder. Sound Device does recommend using 1.5v non-rechargeable lithium batteries, or higher powered NiMH batteries such as B&H # PAKJ17KHCA4A.

Q: 4. Do you have to use two batteries at once or can you use one? Also, what's the estimated run time with phantom for the smaller (2900mh) and medium (5000mh) Sony NPF batteries? Thanks.

A: You only need one battery. I use two just because it seems a bit less awkward to handle. Two of the smaller batteries will run the recorder and a couple of mics all day long.

Q: 5. Does this work as well with the MixPre-3 II?

A: Yes it does.

Q: 6. can I connect this to a usb power bank? what cable do I need?

A: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1567075-REG/anker_a1231011_powercore_slim_10000mah_portable.html?sts=pi&pim=Y This is the recommended power bank, you can use it with this adapter cable: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1353406-REG/zoom_dhc_1_dc_to_hirose_cable.html?sts=pi&pim=Y

Q: 7. I'm trying to use this MX-LMount battery sled on the MixPre-10 II and getting flashing red ring LEDs on all tracks when powering it on, with either a pair of fully charged genuine Sony NP-F970 batteries attached, or a pair of fully charged genuine Sony NP-F570 batteries attached. MixPre-10 II already has L-Mount selected as battery type in the MixPre-10 II's power menu. No other batteries/power sources are connected. I'm using an approved SD card that has been formatted in the MixPre-10 II. Any idea what could be causing this issue?

A: We're glad you were able to resolve the issue.

Q: 8. is it compatible with mixpre 10t ?

A: Yes, it is. Mine arrives today, and I will verify, but the documentation explicitly states that is is compatible.

Q: 9. Will this fit the Sound Devices MixPre 10T?

A: The OR-270 is not sized correctly for the Sound Devices MixPre 10T. The OR-280 model would be the correct choice to use instead. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1445703-REG/orca_or_280_audio_bag_x_small.html

Q: 10. What L Batteries are compatible? Some are ripped apart by the oversized pins.

A: I didn't want to mess around and went with the Sony NP-F970 battery (even though it is not the cheapest option) with this adapter. It has worked flawlessly without any issues. Two years on the road and we haven't had any issues with power using that battery.

This makes it so that you can use Sony NPF batteries. Be careful with it though, my original one bro !

I mount my MixPre6 underneath a camcorder, so there is no clearance to use the upper battery compartment with my 8500 mAh batteries (the battery would get in the way of the camera body). However, I really only need 1 L-type battery as it lasts and lasts. So I just use the lower compartment on the MX-LMount. Seems a bit high-priced for a piece of plastic, but all Sound Devices accessories are costly. That being said, I figure it is a one-time expense that makes life WAY easier as there are no hanging cables nor external battery pack, everything is self-contained on the MixPre itself - I love a low-profile solution. Everything Sound Devices produces is well-made, so no argument here about price.

It works as advertised. My SONY and Sound devices batteries slip-in and out with no issues. I do hot swapping and try not to take the sled off.

It's a fine product and I've had no issues. The price is a bit steep for what it is, but nothing can be done about that. It fits in tightly but it's very secure and I don't see any future complications arising. I'd purchase it again...it's really a must have the Mix Pre.

Rather pricey, but works.  One big L-Mount battery generally lasts me all day.  Two certainly will.  Three if youre recording sound in Antartica.

One pro:  You can mount the battery from both sides.  Alot of times I attach this under my camera, in which case I mount the battery to the bottom.

One con: would be nice to have an option where the battery mounts to the side - as opposed to up and down.  I know the extended AA version does this, but a rechargeable solution would be much better.

I purchased the MX-L battery sled because I was not happy with the battery life using 4 alkaline batteries. When using phantom power, the supplied batteries did not offer enough power to sustain a Video shoot. While the preamp and controls on the mix-pre 3 are above average, battery life was the only knock. I decided to explore other options and came upon this product. At first when it arrived, I was skeptical because of the plastic housing. You would expect it to be metal. The only way to find out if I was going to keep this product was to put it through the test. I was hired to video a stage play. Typically, I run the audio directly from the mixing board into a recorder. With the sound devices mix pre 3, I did the same technique. Line out from the mixer into the aux in of the mix pre3. Also, I wanted to record the laughter from the audience so I used a shotgun mic to record a seperate channel. This shotgun mic needed phantom power. Needless to say, I was blown away with the extended amount of power available using the sled along with the Sony battery. The sled can take 2 batteries but I used one. Very impressed! The play lasted 3 hours and still had juice left. This is a must have if you record extended amount of audio.

Having this sled lets me record for a long time.

I had been powering my MixPre3 with a electronics brick through the USB, which felt very fragile. The sled takes all of that away and the L Battery lasts forever! We've found you only need to use one battery at time. Couldn't be happier!
