The OWC Jupiter Callisto 32TB 16-Bay NAS Serverfrom OWC Jupiter Callisto 32TB 16-Bay NAS Servercan function as as NAS (network attached storage) and as a SAN (storage area network at the same time. Users will be able to tackle most any data need from general document storage to video production with network speeds up to 10 Gb/s as well as advanced data protection, optimization, and flexibility with the Callisto's ZFS-based storage architecture. Mini SAS expansion supports up to seven OWC Jupiter Kore storage racks and can be expanded into petabytes of managed storage from a single Callisto box.

OWC's Jupiter Castillo features a 3 RU form factor and is equipped with sixteen drive bays that support 3.5 and 2.5" SATA and SAS drives, although this model has 32TB of storage that is configured as 16 x 2TB SATA III 2.5" SSDs. It is driven by a 2.2 GHz Intel Xeon Silver 4210 10-Core processor and 128GB of 2666 MHz DDR4 ECC memory in an 8x 16GB configuration, which may be upgraded to 512GB. Network connectivity is achieved using dual 10GbE ports, while storage expansion is accomplished using two 12 Gb/s SAS-3 Mini-SAS 8644 ports that allow for four SAS-3 compliant channels. Additional connectivity includes 2 two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 (3.1 Gen 1/3.0) ports and two USB-A 2.0 ports for direct/local system updating and mouse/keyboard support, a serial port, and IPMI 1GbE RJ45 port, and a VGA port for accessing Console Setup to determine the unit's management IP address if you're using a DHCP assigned IP address. For users who need RAID capabilities, the Jupiter Castillo comes configured as RAID Z1, but may be reconfigured as RAID Z2 or Z3.

OWC's Jupiter Callisto 16-Bay NAS Server operates using three redundant 650W power supplies and the TrueNAS SCALE OS. It is compatible with systems running Windows 10 or later, macOS 10.15 or later, and Linux. Included are two power cables, two slide rails, two rail extensions, eight M5 pan head screws, twelve M5 cage nuts, and four M5 enclosure securing screws.

As a unified storage system, OWC Callisto provides both NAS and SAN functionality on Ethernet networks. This means that Callisto can integrate easily into existing Ethernet-based storage networks, or can be the heart of a brand new storage infrastructure to provide iSCSI storage to a server or file sharing SMB/AFP to Mac and Windows computers.

Utilizing ZFS storage architecture, advanced data management features come standard on OWC Jupiter Callisto:

  • Storage pools to ensure easy future expansion and optimal data usage
  • Caching to provide additional speed
  • Automatic data integrity management to prevent data loss
  • A robust set of RAID level options to ensure the best balance of speed and redundancy
  • Snapshots, replication, and clones for easy backup and recovery
  • Compression and data deduplication so data takes up less space

Jupiter Callisto's web-based management provides a straightforward interface to: configure storage, manage users and permissions, manage storage reallocation and expansion, monitor system health, and more.

When Gigabit won't do, you can use the built-in 10GBASE-T Ethernet interface for speeds up to 10 Gb/s while maintaining compatibility with 1GbE computers and hardware. Since Callisto provides 10GbE over 10GBASE-T ports, as opposed to SFP+ ports that require costly transceivers and cabling, you can utilize lower cost CAT 6a and CAT 7 copper cabling at distances up to 328' in a single run. Callisto does all that while maintaining compatibility with 1GbE networks, so you can upgrade computers to 10GbE as needed. With the option of adding 40GbE or 100GbE uplink interfaces, Callisto can support much larger network environments with drastically lower latency.

As your storage requirements grow, you can easily add up to seven OWC Jupiter Kore systems for a total of 2500TB (2.5PB)of centralized storage without the need to migrate data or take the system down. Simply install a Kore system into your rack, connect it to your Callisto system via Mini SAS, and with a few clicks in the management interface your new storage is ready to be utilized.

[128 GB ECC DDR4] I'm an electrical engineer and work from home and this fit my need s perfectly. I have two networks, one secure network for business and the other for home. This NAS has 4 NICs (2x 10Gbe) and (2x2.5Gbe) which would allow me to manage the NAS for 4 independent networks. I configured it with (5) 4 TB drives configured for RAID 5 and I opted to install two 512 GB Samsung 970 Pro NVMe M.2 512 GB SSDs configured to operate as a cache for the RAID system.

[32 TB] For all our storage needs - this is the solution! Not only is it reliable, it's one-stop shopping for our NAS and IP camera needs. Cloud storage is the new kid on the block - but this is the O.G when you want your data and videos in-house. I highly recommend it or its other siblings of different capacities.

[128 GB ECC DDR4] I recently got the Buffalo TeraStation Essentials 8TB 4-Bay NAS Array for our small business, and wow, it's made a big difference! With 8TB spread over four 2TB drives, we've got loads of space for all our important files. Setting it up was super easy, which was a relief, and using it was straightforward, too. It's quick and reliable when we access our data, which helps everything run smoother day-to-day. Plus, it feels sturdy and well-made, so I'm not worried about it breaking down on us. Honestly, adding the TeraStation to our setup has been a great move for keeping our data organized and easy to get to.

[128 GB ECC DDR4] After studying the field, we ordered the Buffalo ls120. This comes configured with 2 drives as raid 1. It was particularly important to insure from data loss. Storage space was secondary. NAS of this quality are usually more expensive (and with more storage than I need). Any device on my LAN can access and share the data without having an attached PC necessary all the time. Other configs are optional, but with raid1, in the unlikely event of one drive failure, the data is still safe and continuously available on the other one. Buffalo would rush a replacement of the failed drive quickly with no interruption.

[128 GB ECC DDR4] I bought this unit after receiving help from an informative sales rep at B&H. His recommendation for my buying the Buffalo 8T (4 X 2T) TerraStation was based on my needs (I formerly had a WD 8T MyCloudHome NAS which is no longer supported) and on Buffalo's excellent help line which I can attest was outstanding in helping me. I have 4 Mac computers (3 Ventura and 1 Monterrey OS) on the NAS through a QNAP 2104 switch (also from B&H) and each one backs up correctly through Time Machine with my TerraStation using Raid 5 (Only 6T available with 1 drive designated as the emergency reserve). The unit is well built with a solid metal chassis. The unit runs cool. The 2.5 gig signal works correctly and firmware is updated without any difficulty. Setup was done through NasNavigator 2 software. All connections are through Cat 6 cables. I am very pleased with the results.

[128 GB ECC DDR4] Bought as a shared backup solution after Drobos died and that company is going belly-up, with no support or products. TeraStation was easy to connect up and set up shares to multiple PCs. Robust with plenty of capacity.
