The compact SCIENCE IMAGE NDI Mini HD 3G-SDI/HDMI Encoder/Decoder Kitfrom SCIENCE IMAGE NDI Mini HD 3G-SDI/HDMI Encoder/Decoder Kitwith both 3G-SDI and HDMI 1.4 inputs and outputs can encode or decode full NDI video up to 2160p30 with a small form factor. A large, matte tally light on the side of the device makes it ideal for use in live production environments. The design of the device features a 1.3" OLED display screen, which shows the unit's working status and parameters as well as input and output in real time.

The NDI Mini HD has a USB Type-C port for integration of PTZ cameras into the system. PTZ cameras can then receive commands over NDI, even if the camera itself is not NDI compatible. A 3.5mm stereo audio line-level input and headphone output are integrated into the back of the device for audio monitoring. Power can be received by the device either through the Ethernet input, the PTZ USB port, or the DC connection with the included 12 VDC power supply.

A: this converter could be used to convert the NDI signal from the camera to an HDMI signal that can be fed directly into the ATEM Mini pro switcher

Q: 3. I'd like to output a Transparent lower thirds image from my computer via NDI, will this device receive the keyed image via NDI and pass it along via the HDMI going into my ATEM?

A: NDI does support Alpha channel keying. The Magewell Pro Convert NDI to HDMI Decoder would work.

Q: 4. Will BirdDog 4K 12G-SDI NDI Encoder/Decoder Silicon 2 update add NDi-HX encoding decoding?

A: Yes, the 4K encoder/decoder line will all get the options of full NDI, NDI HX, SRT, and RTMP for the Ethernet jack.

Q: 5. When I switch between layer sets in mimoLive the screen receiving the HDMI signal from the box blinks once or twice. Any I dead on why that is happening? Ps: This does not happen when I connect the HDMI from the screen directly to my Mac Pro.

A: The issue seems a little unclear. We are unable to reproduce the issue exactly as stated, but we suspect that there may be an EDID verification issue that may be causing the on and off blinking, although without a reproduction of the exact system, we cannot confirm for sure.

Q: 6. Using Titler Live software for lower thirds output in alpha channel over NDI. Will this device support alpha channel input to an Atem2 switcher?

A: Yes, the BirdDog 4K HDMI 2.0 NDI Encoder/Decoder will accept NDI from sources such as Titler Live and out the signal through HDMI to feed to various destinations like Blackmagic switchers. The BirdDog 4K HDMI 2.0 NDI Encoder/Decoder using the BirdDog Studio v3.1 update allows NDI decode alpha channel support over the HDMI output.

Q: 7. The 12G-SDI non-QUAD unit has a separate input and output connector. Can it encode one NDI stream to the network while decoding a different NDI stream from the network at the same time?

A: The outputs would be looped-out signals from the input, which supports only one NDI stream. A different NDI stream from the input is not possible.

Q: 8. Does this equipment work or not? Also, based on BD Website, the BNCs can be independently assigned as an encoder or decoder; is this not true?

A: The 4K Quads will be able to do that, once the final firmware is released. It is not in that current state, but eventually that feature is planned to be on the QUAD. Right now, you can ENCODE all or DECODE all.

[SDI] Almost any camcorder produced before 2018 doesn't have NDI capabilities but with the addition of the Birddog Mini, you can make a leap into the world of networked video without any heavy lifting. Excellent choice for any church or school that needs to stream video but doesn't want to incur the cost of wiring for video. Any HDMI source can be plugged into the Mini and using a local network, connected to a computer with a streaming application such as vMix or OBS. No capture card necessary - it just works. This is a device that needs to be in the toolbox of any serious videographer. 5

[Device: 10 W] I purchased this product to record HD news coverage of events pertaining to my work so I could include the coverage in various video programs. I connected the converter to a cable box and and a DVCPro-HD deck. It works beautifully! Both video and audio are indistinguishable from the original signal coming from the cable box. 5

[Device: 10 W] Bought this to provide better video stream than my JVC GY LS300's RTSP feed (it has a big delay and sketchy feed). This is magnificent uncompressed quality. Already have a NewTek connect Spark, but this makes production a breeze. Been using it with a Church client's live stream and convinced them to go with Bird Dog products. They're not gonna regret it. 5

[1.3"] Using this to decode an NDI source to a projector in Church services with live stream. We previously were sending the Presentation Laptops screen to the OBS computer via NDI, and used a separate proprietary wireless video feed to the main projector. Got this so we can use the same NDI source for both and eliminate the wireless projector feed. It is working well. One thing to be aware of: the projector will display will go blank in a couple of seconds if there is no video and audio activity when using NDI Screen Capture as the source. This can be an issue during power points with static screens. You can set the decoder to keep the last thing displayed on the screen or allow it to go blank. I prefer it to go blank so I know something is wrong right away. You can also resolve by making sure the NDI Screen Capture is using an active audio source (like the microphone). This decoder has been reliable and is reasonably priced. Perhaps other decoders won't have the inactivity issue but they are also more expensive. This has not been a show stopper for us. 5

[1.3"] The first time I used this I was on a foreign network so I didn't have the IP address to configure it. The device has on-screen controls though so it was an easy setup, just browsed to my NDI source and worked great. I used this with vMix for a remote monitor of the program stream. 5

[SDI] After a really long search I finally found a box that will allow me to run GoPros over a long 50 foot SDI cable at 1080p 30 and 60 fps for live streaming. The ATEM did not want to except the Go Pro over HDMI cat 5 extender or AVUE hdmi to sdi converter. I believe it goes into the ATEM at 1080i from the AJA which is why the others were not working as they ouput 1080p though I can't really put my finger on it as my Nikon D5200 worked with the other boxes just not the Go Pro, but HURRAY IT WORKS!!!! I am wondering if Go Pros work with the new Black Magic 4k HDMI to SDI mini converter and the ATEM TV as I don't think they work with the older Black Magic converter going into a ATEM TV, they are a bit cheaper than the AJA. Please let me know if anyone has tested a GO PRO and the Black Magic 4k miniconverter HDMI to SDI converter into the ATEM TV. Cheers! 5

[Device: 10 W] Using with the 4kQuad-4Channel and this works reliably in a 24/7 environment. 1080i59.94 and 1080p30 sources. I'm using with the internal SFP port and not the built in network. It's a little bit funky to get it to swap between the two, but once it's set, it says there. 5
