Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this fit the Sony 90mm macro lens?

A: The Vello NSD-35 35mm Negative and Slide Digitizer comes with a 62mm filter adapter that fits the Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS Lens. Technically it should work but it has not been tested with that lens and Sony cameras.

Q: 2. Will these work for the Minolta Dimage 5400 slide scanner?

A: These slide holders will only work with the Plustek OpticFilm 8000 series scanners.

Q: 3. Can these be used for DSLR scanning? Do they have a flat side where the negatives and slides would be parallel to the sensor plane?

A: Yes, the bottoms of the holders are flat.

Q: 4. Would this work with a Canon R5, a Canon EF 100MM f2.8 Macro, and the Canon EF/RF adapter ?

A: Yes, the Vello NSD-35 35mm Negative and Slide Digitizer is compatible with the Canon R5, Canon EF 100mm f2.8 Macro, and the EF/RF adapter. Just use the included 67mm Lens Adapter and you will be all set.

Q: 5. will these holders work for the 7200 model

A: Yes, they will. I bought these for that exact purpose and they work beautifully.

Q: 6. Do these masks scan the sprockets/film borders?

A: No, the Negative Supply Basic Film Carrier 35 MK2 does not scan the sprocket holes/boarder on film. This does for 35mm, https://bhpho.to/46BBKJJ.

Q: 7. Will the Vello NSD-35 work with my AF Micro Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 D lens?

A: The Vello NSD-35 35mm Negative and Slide Digitizer is a very versatile gadget, and can be made to work with most macro type lenses. Please see the Vello user manual linked to in the Overview section of this product (blue banner on bottom right side). On Page 6 of the manual, Vello describes how you can combine the adapters to achieve your lenses focal length so that you can fill your camera’s sensor with the image. Page 12 offers a table that shows this in use with a select set of lenses. The Nikon section of this table offers 2 lenses with 105mm. You can use these as a reference and try both to see what works best.

Q: 8. Is the owners manual available online? I’m trying to see if my current Canon DSLR and lens will work with this system

A: Yes, the manual for Vello NSD-35 35mm Negative and Slide Digitizer can be found at https://bit.ly/48vSZOs. This digitizer comes with Six Lens Adapters: 46mm, 49mm, 55mm, 58mm, 62mm, and the 67mm.

Q: 9. What is the inside diameter of the hood?

A: The inside diameter of the Negative Supply 35mm Film Scanning Hood measures approximately 3.75".

Q: 10. Does this support xpan panoramic images 24x65mm?

[0.27 lb] The switch is great and works well with the 4x5 light source, but should have been included when purchasing the light.

[0.27 lb] I discovered a large box of slides that I inherited from my father, going as far back as 1951! The results of the first few test slides are astonishing in the clarity of their reproduction! It'll take me some time to get through them all, but a very efficient and good quality way to preserve these for the foreseeable future.

[0.27 lb] This is a fairly simple setup for negative scanning that works extremely well, at least for me. Although I've only scanned about ten negatives, so far, it is easy to see that the system works well. The digitized version of the negatives came out great.

I read a fair amount about this system before I bought it, and for the money I thought no matter what I was going to try it. There are various ways of scanning negatives, but I don't think it gets much simpler or more solid than this.

But there are some things to consider, one of them is that a good macro lens is recommended. For my setup I used a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM and an R7. A full frame camera is probably a good idea too, and this coming winter I'll use a full frame and will be scanning a lot of negatives. For my first trial though, this thing was easy to set up and worked 100%.

One caveat, some people say that it cuts off the top or bottom of the negative, but if you set it up right it will do the whole negative without a problem. I had zero problems on my first try, and understood if there was such a problem I would just have to align the system correctly.

Here's an instagram from BHP that explains another way of scanning but it's still the same basic idea, this Vello system is probably easier, hope this link works. https://tinyurl.com/mpnmbx2s

[0.27 lb] Looked for this product for a long time! Good description of what macro lenses it fits to. Parts are sturdy. The slide and negative mounts click into place precisely. LED is bright, no hot-spots. Product works as promised.
Recommend mounting camera on sturdiest possible tripod to make the operations comfortable.

Anything more? B and H might wish to link to articles about using common software (Lightroom and Photoshop) to color-correct ancient slides that have turned a reddish brown, and other such aging effects. That detail is not always easy to find with a web-search.

[0.27 lb] Using this with my Canon 90D and Canon 100mm macro lens. I shoot the slide in RAW and process in Lightroom - results are significantly better than what I got from my pricey Canon flatbed scanner, so much so that I will redo previous work. It was easy to assemble and put to immediate use. I'm really pleased with this purchase.
